I do not support APC and yes, i want the bill to happen.

Maybe it is games for some, but the probability of me living long depends on that bill.

The chances of my baby surviving is low if there is no paediatrician in the hospital

The chances of a patient surviving is low if there are no doctors.

If you think the lawmakers are passing the bill because they are selfish, then you just want to win the argument. Every lawmaker that voted for that bill can easily jump on a flight abroad to treat Staphylococcus.

I am looking at it from the lenses of a man who cannot afford medical tourism abroad. My chances of living longer is depleting if more doctors are leaving.

Call me ignorant or selfish; and I'll own it.

They couldn't when COVID lockdown happened 🌚😭😭

The funny thing is, the healthcare problem is not unique to Nigeria.

Or even Africa.

The reason these countries post better numbers is not because they stop doctors from leaving. It is because they have robust systems in place.

Instead of addressing the issue of building better systems in the healthcare sector you want to enslave the people who are least responsible for whatever metrics you want to post and are even the reason they aren't worse than what we're seeing.

I do not care that millions die, yet I and my colleagues contribute money to pay for indigent patients so that they can live or see.
I do not care that patients die, yet every December I'm in one outreach or another bringing eye Care to people who otherwise won't have access.

I really no blame people like una.

You don't have to blame me in any way.

I really did not want to get into this argument again, but you all kept hammering on it like anybody supporting the bill has nothing to lose.

I saw your point yesterday, but all i keep seeing is how selfish and wicked people supporting the bill are.

I support the bill, sir.

All the 3 candidates said they were going to remove subsidy during the campaign.

Wait make Tinubu enter and remove the subsidy and see how they will begin to blame APC people as if the principal they supported didn’t subscribe to it.

Me myself is even against the subsidy removal

You do not care if millions die because of your decision.

All i see is two people putting their interests first.

No vex, sir
The politicians also put themselves first, so it's survival of the fittest
Nothing bad if all doctors want to leave

LMAO
I said nothing about people being selfish and wicked.
I even told larride that I'm not faulting the intention behind the bill, but that the lawmakers are going about it in the worst way possible and they should at least engage the people who will be most affected by the bill.

Go and look at schedules and equipment of doctors even in the so-called big hospitals.

Harsh as it may sound, no one forced anyone to study medicine or become a doctor.

My work has no public holiday, no Christmas, no new year, nothing. My phone must always be on because I can be called at 1am to attend to issues. You can't even go on leave in December except you're a senior manager. I'm not complaining because I knew what I was getting myself into.

Those who genuinely love to practice medicine will continue to study it and will be glad to give 5 years back after they are done. Those who had to study it due to parental pressure can go and learn data analysis and become a tech bro.

It is what it is.

You don't even need Tinubu to enter and remove it before you know what will happen.

Nigeria Labour Congress has already done a summersault that subsidy removal will be resisted. cheesy

I pray they succeed anyway because I'm heavily reliant on fuel and it will take the grace of God to get any significant raise at work to compensate.

There are so many reasons why this policy will not give you the expected outcome. Let me just list a few.

1) You don't become a paediatrician within 5 years of graduation, so this bill if passed into law WILL NOT ensure that there is a paediatrician for your child.

2) The average work experience of doctors japaing is probably about 5 or more years already so the actual positive effect of this bill in terms of adding to the medical work force will be minimal. Most japa doctors spend close to 5 years already in Nigeria before exiting so the only thing this bill will do is antagonize the few that want to leave early by its similarity to indentured servitude/modern slavery.

3) Even if you are abkle to keep them back for 5 years what you will get will be a situation whereby doctor exit after the 5-year period will explode beyond what we have now, leading to a situation whereby only inexperienced doctors would be left in the country.

4) You will also have some medical graduates leaving the country for other African countries (and Caribbean countries) to start work as house officers and getting their full registration after 1yr rather than wasting 5 years in Nigeria to get the same full registration. You will be losing these ones from Year 0 not Year 5.

We have not mentioned the illegality involved in witholding full registration form doctors when the standard practice in all the sane parts of the world is to award full registration after completion of internship/housemanship.

Then there is the fact that all other public university students are also "subsidized" so i wonder why only doctors are being targeted to bear the brunt of a failed system. If we ask now, people will say doctors' jobs are special and they need to make the sacrifice. If we ask for better conditions and pay now, the same people will say doctors are not doing any special job and should go and sit down jo.

This is what we've been saying.

If you're seeing healthcare as an emergency, then address it as such. Start the overhaul from there and spread to other sectors but someone thinks I'm pointing fingers at him because I'm speaking out against being a slave.

If the intention of the bill is to stop brain drain in the health sector then the best thing to do is to do total revamp and not doing cosmetic facelift that doesn’t even touch the root cause of the issue.
