It has become exceedingly obvious that you guys do not get it and it is the reason many of you fail to see perspective. If you were not obsessed with proving me wrong, you will realize that in that same post I made a good case for what the season resulted into. Nobody, absolutely nobody went into the season predicting Arsenal will win the league, however, we had a very good chance and were in a strong position to win the league and faltered like we did the previous season. I want to type more but it has become clear you guys will NEVER get it.

Those attacking Arteta would have sung a different song if those loses were earlier in the season and our winning run was towards this end of the season where we still managed to finish second with over 80points.

They would have ordered a statue for him.

But because it happened the other way, they feel it is bottling. How do you bottle something that you never had before?

Arsenal were never favourites for top four by almost all bookmakers. So how did we bottle something that we were not given the chance

Them go say na mediocrity talk be this. grin

What even surprise me most is with their trolling β€” you'd think this boys didn't put effort into challenging for this title or that we didn't even show any ambition that we wanted the title.

I was here under Emery regime. Emery never had this kind of backlash from most fans here in his first season when he prioritized Europa for top 4. The kinda criticism Emery got wasn't even half of what Arteta is getting now. At least, I can't remember most folks talking about how they should sack him when we shamefully lost to Chelsea. Even sef, Emery didn't even hit any goal that was even set for him that season.

But for Arteta, dem don say we dey call am god that can't be criticized or should be sacked even though he met one of the goals.

If na rival fans dey do all these trolling, I for understand I swear.

Gunners bow is Xhaka leaving arsenal for Bayern Leverkusen

I don’t understand this move
Xhaka tried this season for us but if we can get massive upgrade on him, it'll do us a whole lot of good.

Not criticizing him but we'll actually need someone better to take us to that next level

Lol... The way most guys here wailed last season when we lost out on top 4, you'd think we'll never make Top4 again. In fact, if few of us have any power then, dem for sack Arteta forgetting how the team played and that just few quality additional players and we'll get into top 4.
We fail to see the bigger picture sometimes.

The issue is that you're comparing Arsenal of latter Wenger years to this one. Those ones were serial bottlers and most of the time not ambitious except one or two players all due to the mediocrity Wenger allowed. In fact, that 2nd position we took was a fluke cos I know when other big teams sit up, we'll be done for. That team was on a downward slope and the last decades proved so

This arsenal is different. It's on an upward drive that needs few quality additions to become quality challengers again. I wonder how you didn't see it when you were one of those who saw Liverpool's upward drive under Klopp even before he won his first trophy.

The only reason dem Saka and Odegaard would go is if arsenal and Arteta decides to show no ambition.

So far for the bolded, I don't see such cycle repeating itself soon
1st paragraph....

I insist both this Arterta and the previous Arsenal sides still lacked that killer instinct to achieve the big prize at hand, it has always been let's take positives...

2nd para
This Arterta side have also bottled Europa, Top4 and EPL

3rd para
It didn't take Liverpool too long before they won those big prizes ( Top4, EPL and UCL)

If Saka and Odegard sees it's just all near success, they would jump ship to big winning sides.

1st paragraph β€” it's your opinion. If you think so, I respect that.

2nd paragraph β€” Klopp lost Europa, EPL, UCL and Carling cup before his first trophy. Were you one of those who called him a bottler then? If I can remember vividly, you were one of those who were on Klopp's side.

3rd paragraph β€” If to you, 4 yrs(or seasons) isn't long before Liverpool won the big prizes, then why are you dragging Arteta who just have 3yrs and an fa cup to boot?
I even see you putting top4 among these particular category yet hours ago you said Top4 isn't an achievement.

If the near successes is prolonged, of course they(Saka and Odegaard) would rightly be frustrated and would want to jump ship. It's understandable.

My plea is that hold the team and Arteta accountable when we have that near successes or underperforming when we're at our peak, not this season that's like the foundation. From next season upwards, if we're not winning Trophies and challenging for trophies (or having near successes), then hold them accountable.

it's not about money, it's about 1st team assurance mostly. I think Arteta didn't assure him of that next season.

The falcao comparison is just that they mostly jump club immediately their club qualifies for UCL. grin

I am surprised at what's being said here...
Nobody said the team didn't try... We are not criticizing Arteta needlessly.
Edu and Arteta have been hammering it that we are ahead of schedule according to the development plan. No wahala.

Then this season, the plan was top 4 but we had the chance to run away with the league but we blew it.
Then some of you here decided to console yourselves with the 'the top 4 was the target' talk which is exactly what I'm against. I'm sorry but that is a mediocre thinking. A weak mentality infact.

That excuse might even carry small weight had it been we played the big teams back to back and dropped valuable points. We lost a 2-goal lead twice and handed the league to City.

That we are competing for top 4 no mean say make we see opportunity to carry the cup and mess up.

City lost four games. Their fans patched those up. Napoli lost four games, their fans also patched up those loses. If you can't patch up Arsenal's loses as a fan, then good for you.
Patch up is when you tried to cover up our bottling with 'top 4 was always the target' , not what you stated here.

My broda, we are talking to walls at this point because I am convinced they will NEVER see another perspective.

The fact remains we blew a chance we were firmly in control of and there is absolutely no shame in admitting it.

We went on a 3 game skid with synonymous dynamics in the way we lost points in those games! This same scenario played itself out last season but I am just supposed to be grateful that we achieved top 4 and pretend like we did not blow a good chance.

These guys want to make us out of what we are not and I will continue to resist it even if everyone backs off. Now the convenient excuse is that we were chased by City! Was it City that made you drop points in 3 consecutive shambolic performances? How about the game against City? If top 4 depended on that result, would we be saying what we are saying now?

On the bolded, may be you have not been following up. The two people know themselves and the agenda they stand for. Nor be today. We know them and their stand, always looking for an opportunity to talk about mediocrity and poor mentality.

When someone does not see the progress made and only looks at the failure at the end point then that person has a poor objective analysis/mentality. When your child tries to walk for the first time and falls close to the finish line, you don't cane the child. You encourage him.

It's OK to feel disappointed but it's not OK to call the players or the club bottlers just because they didn't have the capacity to cross the finish line first. As long as a title chase was not expected it will be wrong to say they had a poor mentality. You may have to go back a few posts to see Afrodo.c's comments as an external unbiased opinion.

How is it different from the racial abuse Saka received after missing the final penalty for England at the Euros? All these despite a stellar performance throughout the competition leading to the finals?

So if Arsenal finds themselves in the CL finals against an experienced team next season and then loses it, they will call them bottlers again abi? If you win it fine and good, if you don't, you pat yourself on the back and move on, hoping to improve next time.

Last season we missed out on top four, this season we achieved it comfortably. For me that's progress. Next stage is to win the league. And I believe the boys have gathered enough experiences to do it.

I Spy, will not criticise the players for what they did this season because they did well finishing with 81points and still counting, I will rather encourage them to do better next season.

The people who are highly disappointed are people who didn't put things in perspective. I'm sorry to say

We and Napoli had similar form this season (with just a difference of Β±1or 2points separating each other each passing week) but at one stage, Napoli was topping 2nd position with as much as 18points while we, we're always looking at our back because of a 5point gap each passing week.

I remember always telling guys here that 5point is nothing especially if na Man city you're competing with but some certain people have already made up their minds. Check Napoli's fixtures, they didn't even started brightly and along the season, they still drew matches back to back (at least on two separate occasions). All those times they did dropped such form, nobody remembered that Napoli were bottlers or they were found out, but we, once we draw one match, because of Manchester city wey dey our back, you'll start seeing epistles of why this team is weak and why Arteta is a poor coach or that he's found out. No breathing space at all, something most champions enjoyed when they make such an incredible form but for us, No, we must be immaculate to win the league

For crying out loud, this team made the best start in its history. No arsenal side made such an incredible start, not even the invicibles, but you guys won't see it because Man city are always at our tails. You're concerned that we were at the top for so long forgetting the fact that it takes another kind of mentality to be at the top for Months while being followed closely by another top team throughout those months.

Leicester example is even worse. Those guys that were drawing matches at first and losing more than their wins before picking form in around October. People that won league before even the 80 point mark because of how poor everybody is that season.

You can keep on calling the teams bottlers and weak or calling us who saw the progress mediocres or better still, cherry pick the match we fvcked up to suit your agenda.

Na Una sabi!!

We had the chance to RUN away with the league β€” Maximum point 5-8points

Someone would think that at a certain time, we were topping Man city with 12-18points before we blew it up.

One useless picture stats was even posted here that we had 93% percent of winning the league and we bottled it while Liverpool of 2018/19 have 57% chance of winning the league and bottled it.

Na people wey no follow Liverpool of 2018/19 would believe that myth of 57% while our own is 93% when on both situation, Man city were pursuing those two teams closely with 5point difference for a long stretch.

Spy360, This is when you know someone have fair assessment when it has nothing to do with Arteta.

AC Milan...

Target β€” qualify from group stage
.

Milan actually qualified from the group stage, punched above their weight but lost the s/f.

Verdict: The team tried and they punched above their weight. Proud of the lads. It's a success

Arsenal...

Target β€” Qualify for top 4

Arsenal actually qualified for Top4 and punched above their weight to compete for the league

Verdict: Arsenal are bottlers and both the team and the coach no try. It's a failure. Underachievers!!

In the second paragraph, You'd be forgiven to think reaching and losing in semifinals is a trophy the way arsenal is derided for finishing second

Issorait!!

Roland17:

Overall, I can beat my chest and say the boys tried. Going into the season, getting out of the group stage would have been considered a success but they did not stop there, they kept pushing and punching above their weight. Making it into the semi-finals with this squad makes me proud of the lads.

Unlike some bunch of overachievers who would have reminded me the goal was not to get to the semi-finals but to make it out of the group stage!
