BascoVanVeli: You easily resort to insults and strong language when disagreed with. This isn't the first time, I'm just now calling it out. We can keep our engagements civil, no need for insults. On the matter, I appreciate your perspective, I just do not think it holds weight in the grand scheme of things. If my only argument is that her remaining in the team is depriving someone else deserving of a spot, it's more than enough. One player's pipe dream of multiple world cup attendance shouldn't be the stumbling block to more deserving young players. Now at 40, she's not even considered good enough by a club to require her services. so taking a 44 year old won't change any narrative (not like such even exist in women's football). Just checking off that top of my head, many of our female players were active into their late 30s so it's not like they are being discriminated against. 1 Like |

lovewins: I said u SOUNDED small minded and I explained why. Don't make it something its not. U are worried about who is getting the record and not what it will mean. The record will belong to Nigeria not just Onome Ebi. It didn't work out for her at Levante Las Planas but that happens to countless players. She was good enough to be selected by Waldrum (or are we saying the NFF did that?) and she performed well when called upon. All other talk is story story. 3 Likes 1 Share |

BascoVanVeli: Your argument on what it means for Nigeria and Africa by extension was on dispelling narratives of Africans slowing down as they get older. I inturn argued that depriving a more deserving player for that is a no-no. I also argued that such narrative doesn't even exist. Perpetual played professionally until she was 39, same applied for many of our falcons who didn't retire early due to marriage or health reasons. Oluehi and Chikwelu are in their late 30s and they still actively play for their clubs. Such narrative need to exist before you can think of dispelling them, and in women's football such bias doesn't exist. On Ebi being selected by Waldrum? I decided not to dwell on that. There were rumours that she guaranteed slot on the list. It's why they keep fraudulently assigning her to an NWFL club she doesn't play for. I however can't substantiate it so no point giving it voice. We look forward to the next club that'll sign her. |

lovewins: There is a big difference between playing till 39 and playing in 6 world cups. That record is an undeniable fact. About Onome's selection, stop the CAP. The same Waldrum that called out the NFF for trying to select his players. How did they then force Onome on him? Someone that started the last 2 friendlies before the world cup and scored a goal, which kind of talk is this na? 3 Likes 1 Share |

Both Ohale and Plumptre were nursing injuries at the time (vs Haiti and N. Zealand). It therefore made sense for her to play. Consequently, during the WWC proper, she was a bench warmer. Not particularly bothered by her comments because she wouldn’t make the team. It is absolutely ridiculous to even suggest she would, considering that he plethora of players Nigeria has and will have by the next WC. BascoVanVeli: 1 Like |

Yes, since her U17 days and I am still not impressed. Nnadozie was a backup to her. I’m sorry, but I don’t see the value she can add. Would rather invest in some of the younger keepers like Omilana or the Anderline girl. Deltamani: |

AkinDS: Did she start the 2 matches yes or no? All that other stuff is irrelevant. If u don't want to use a player u won't use her. This is a player that the coach always praises but u want me to believe she was forced on him? I definitely cleared up my point in a previous response I made to u. Like I said then, a lot can change in 4 years. 4 Likes 1 Share |

On the contrary, the facts are very relevant. 1. Fact. She started both games because 2 of the choice center-backs were injured. (Wo)Manpower shortage in the CB position during the Turkey friendlies. Coach had no choice but to field her. Otherwise, she would have been on the bench, like she was in the 3 friendlies (pre-Turkey) and the FIFA WWC (post-Turkey). 2. Fact. Unclear about your reference to the coach and her being forced on him. Not sure where that came from. 3. Fact. Agree the only thing that would change within the next 4 years is her still being on the team as a player. Ain't gon happen. You can take that the bank! All that talk about 7 WWCs is her stroking her own ego. She really needs to go get her coaching certs - she has learnt alot over her 30+ yrs of playing football. She needs to make herself useful and start a post playing career as a coach, if she has any hope of attending the next WWC. BascoVanVeli: 2 Likes |

AkinDS: Name a player who started those 2 matches and didn't go to the world cup? U don't even know what u are arguing about. U quoted a response I made to someone and u didn't read what the person said. U are not God. Nothing u say concerning 4 years from now should ever be taken to the bank. Curtisaxel10:Guy, for leaving unbeaten is no ordinary feat. I didn't even expect anything from them prior to the first game because of the brouhaha going on btw Employee and employer, and that atmosphere of unseriousness as regards our preparation. That's one of the things i always say. The way they ended this tournament now, those ones in NFF would begin to feel that they pulled the strings to actualize such feat. They are repping us and deserve some form of welcoming not this mecenary kind of dispersal. Plus even the one RAT organized, only 3 Senior Women attended again. So disorganized!! Sporting events, public, private, on pitch, off pitch, etc, deserve better. That JJ Okocha own pain me. Smh. |

yinkeys:Those one never plan to do better than a previous approach. To even match the level of prep of a previous outing is so alien to them. Prepare with 5.0 Next prep will be 2.5 or 3. If e reach 4.5 na blessing. To sustain na palava. I hope that outing will not be marred with brouhaha. Cos i can scent it and we know who will do funny stuff already. Pessimistic just cos of NFF |

Copied From OSASU As readers of my TL know, @CoachWaldrum told me, after the @Lionesses v @NGSuper_Falcons #FIFAWWC round of 16 game, that he would like to stay in charge of the team. .@mitchellobi9, the former @GuardianNigeria sports editor, and presenter of the “Sports Salsa” show, on Kennis 104.1FM, also interviewed @thenff President @IbrahimMusaGus1 about the fate of Waldrum on Tuesday. Their exchange is below: Mitchell Obi: The [Super Falcons] coach says that he wants to continue with Nigeria. What do you think? Ibrahim Gusau: Now, we have a technical committee. If the contract of a coach expires, we have to give them the opportunity to do due diligence, to ensure that, at least, they give Nigerians the best… If he is coming back, it has to be the recommendation of our technical committee. We are still working on that. You know that next month, Nigeria will be engaged in the Olympic qualifiers. We must be sure that something is done before that time, so that we know the coach that is going to take them to the Olympics, inshallah.

Deltamani: They don't want Randy full stop. They are trying to wait it out and see how events unfold. They may even have a local coach take us to th AFCON qualifiers next month against Sao Tome and Principe. We'll definitely win, so that'll further strengthen their sentiments for a new coach. They are also hoping Randy gets another job soon so they won't have to make that decision. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Salma Paralluelo is 18 years old and she has scored important goals that helped Spain qualify for the Final yet 99% of people on this thread and even the coaches of the Super Falcons look down on teenage wonder teens and young stars that could have been in the Super Falcons squad. codemaniacs: They need to wait for their time. They are not developed. They are still raw and need sharpening now 😆😆😆😆😆 Who else saw the recent comments by two of the greatest EPL coaches in the last 3weeks about young talents? SAF and Le Prof!!! Give them that chance, they'll be ever grateful for it as their minds work totally different from the senior ones. They want to keep proving and rewarding those that give them a chance even if they still have a long way to go. I guess some folks will be scared if one day, the average real age of npfl players in the league is like 24.5yrs. Till then. What many are not noticing is we will see it working with even those that are not as talented, and now be among the last to implement with our tails between our legs. |
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by timay1: 5:26pm On Aug 15, 2023 |
codemaniacs:Hmmm. This same Salma was part of that last year U20 world cup that Spain won oo. Immediately after the tournament, Spain did not waste time to integrate like 6 of those players from that tourney into their senior team, despite being spoilt for choice and the intense competition already in the team. She showed her talent and made it into the senior team straight, scoring 8 goals in 13 matches for Spain so far, since her debut. 2 Likes |
