BreconHills:would you have said this if you earn the current minimum wage of 30k and tend to feed your family from it? Let's be fair with ourselves. Paying 100k minimum is even a start, #1000 cannot conveniently feed an individual for a meal, how much more 3x meal for a day. If a manageable meal is #1000, times 30, multiplied by 3 square meal is 90,000. Are you telling me the minimum wager is not good enough to have savings? The govt singlehandedly brought the inflation and sufferings we are experiencing today. Very unnecessary policies to achieve nothing. A loaf of bread is 1500 and minimum wage is 30,000. So your so-called fantastic minimum wage can only buy a worker bread for about 20days. 2 Likes |

In my place in Niger State, I have someone who bought beans at the rate of #45, 000 per bag and now a bag costs #137, 000, the fellow has 250 bags and has refused to sell up till now. Re: 24 Hours To Strike: Labour Talks Tough, FG Begs by BreconHills(m): 9:46am On Jun 02 |
Mandate1: You are making an assumption that everyone at the bottom of the pyramid is an employee. That is not true. Most of them are employers; whether of family members or not. These are the micro SME's You also assume that I am saying there should be no increase. Iam merely saying that 497k is unrealistic and impossible. The highest sustainable minimum would be between 60-70k. Even 100k with its multiplier would create goods and services that nobody could afford. What the government should work on is food costs and the short term way to do this is selective importation. Grants can be given to schools and transporters to cushion rise in prices. This is the only way. The only way out of our situation is increased productivity and high costs ( including salaries) would kill that. You can't be emotional and kill the very people you are trying to save. |

Re: 24 Hours To Strike: Labour Talks Tough, FG Begs by Mandate1: 10:05am On Jun 02 |
BreconHills:I still don't get you. We are talking about minimum wage for the lowest cadre of the Nigerian labour force, and you're talking about them being employers of labour and having alternatives. Is this the bone of contention? Are they employed with the agreement to have alternate source of income and divided attention, or to give their full time and effort to their organisation? Secondly, talking about solution. How is selective importation a solution? Rice has been banned from time ago and the price wasn't to the roof as today, so it has nothing to do with importation. Rice and food price is expensive today because of the high cost of fuel and diesel. Moreso, due to unpredictable exchange and huge custom tariff on importation. |

Organized private sector are a major factor..... And ma very sure they won't meet this new minimum wage requirement. |
