larride: I have a question on this possible restructuring issue. Would the FG allow Lagos out of their control? Considering Lagos ports especially and what it means as a revenue generation to the nation. I'm genuinely curious |

liveLongNprospa: All that should be effectively dealt with in the regional agreement. The region will most likely manage the port and they will come to an agreement on a revenue sharing formula. At least that's what I think. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 11:59pm On Jun 02 |
liveLongNprospa:Isn't giving states monopoly of their competitive advantages the whole idea of the fiscal restructuring? The port is Lagos' revenue generator...Lagos is not the only state that can have a port; I think Ondo, Cross Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom can, not to mention the several other states that can have inland ports. Why would the revenue from Lagos's port be going to the federal government when the oil from SS states or the revenue from gold in Zamfara is being used to develop the respective states? I think devolution to the individual states (US style) is the way forward, the regional governance boat has sailed, let the Ondo man face Ondo, the Edo man Edo, Kano man Kano, Enugu man Enugu and Lagosians face Lagos. 8 Likes 3 Shares |

Theflint1: when i was growing up we had 19 states. now we have 36. this is another legacy of the military where they kept creating nonviable states so they could pander to populist demands several of these states should not have been created in the first place. i suspect Tinubu really wants to go back to the old structure if he could. 36 states are another drain on the economy each must have its own faac. each must have its own minister and minstry so we have 36 ministries by default that is why we have junior ministers and minsters of aviation . aviation should be under transportation |

GloriousGbola: I currently do not have someone you can buy from oh. Although you would be advised to buy Korea, all na still China. If you have some spare time, go to Trade fair (ASPAMDA). Just at the main gate, ask people you are looking for IYKON. He is the biggest battery importer there. He imports Solite back then. |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 8:27am On Jun 03 |
izzou: NLC is just grandstanding. 500k minimum wage We may as well start printing money like Zimbabwe |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 8:31am On Jun 03 |
GloriousGbola: Lol But the 60k that they are offering is way way too small. We cannot say we are saving massively from subsidy, and still can't pay something reasonable 4 Likes |

izzou: Are you ready to pay househelp 100k per month though? Is barber ready to pay apprentice same? Will bank pay security 100k? That is what MINIMUM wage means. The lowest salary you can pay by law. That market square on 23 road who are doing the right thing - employing secondary school kids waiting for uni - should they be paying 100k? Is it sustainable? 5 Likes 2 Shares |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by PDPGuy: 8:38am On Jun 03 |
liveLongNprospa:In a pure regionalistic or federal system, the ports in Lagos would be owned and operated by either the state or private entities. However, the practical reality is that the FG-owned ports would have to be continually run by the FG, even in a true-federalistic arrangement, unless Abuja divests complete control of those ports. |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by TrillionBots(m): 9:24am On Jun 03 |
Itsrm:how will minimum wage benefit someone like GloriousGbola that's working as a private school teacher in a nursery school earning 15k monthly? How will this kind of wage sustain him for the month? Bills are there to take care of himself, take care of his girlfriend Ishilove, at least rent is out of it as he's still living with his mum at 40 He's not in the public sector so I think when discussions like this arises he should keep quiet cos he's not benefiting from him. Las las after the minimum wage has been increased, the inflation would rise and cost of commodities will increase and the average non public worker like GloriousGbola will feel the heat. Ishilove will dump him soon as I really pity am. But on a more serious note, minimum wage isn't a panacea to this inflation, the inflation should be tackled and ways to revive the dying economy and not elevate civil servant's wages |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 9:36am On Jun 03 |
izzou: Some states are not even paying the 30k minimum wage currently since it was increased in 2019. What the FG should've done is devolve the minimum wage committee into FG and States. Let FG and the private sector deal with the national leadership of NLC and TUC for minimum wage for federal workers and private entities. Each state can then negotiate their own minimum wage also with the state chapter of the NLC and TUC, that way we can quickly resolve this minimum wage wahala everytime. A state like Ekiti or Osun cant pay the same minimum wage that Lagos or Ogun can pay and it makes no sense to use the same law for them, it's what's always dragging that negotiations. I believe the 60k is low for the FG also, should be at least 100k but the states can't pay that and how many businesses can afford to pay it without having to lay off employees? 4 Likes |
