Angelfrost: Initially, it should have been around N150k and then FG, private sectors can come up with their own minimum wage. But how do you discuss about something so ridiculous like N500k as minimum wage. Could you believe some states in Nigeria are still paying N18k as minimum wage as they couldn't afford N30k. Are those states not part of those who are expected to pay above N100k minimum wage? 1 Like |

Let me give helinues a breakdown of starvation wage so that he can present it to his slave masters. On critical survival mode for a family of 4 (where the father is on level 5 collecting a salary of 60k) as of today will need the following to survive on the poorest level 1. Feeding @ #300/person = 900/day * 4people = 3600/day (#108,000 for 30days) 2. Transportation for father alone let's assume he is the only one working (#1,000/day = #21,000/months) 3. Accommodations (let's say 10,000/month 4. Let's assume other bills like NEPA, health, education, kerosene, clothing are cramped to #10,000/months Total expenses amounts to...#149,000/month So if the government is being realistic let them pay a level 5 officer #200,000. Note..that the basic salaries of federal workers is consolidated, so all listed should be covered by the salary. 2 Likes |

helinues: Of course they are. You see, NLC is more interested in scoring personal political points. They are clearly not truly concerned about the working class. Even a child knows their demands are downright laughable. However, I still insist that the FG have not come clean in this whole process. 1 Like |

Maybe this is the chance for FG to make the civil service competitive once and for all. Agree to the pay the 500k minimum wage, then trim the fat, get rid of all non essential personnel and leverage technology for service delivery in the civil service Our civil service asides security and other essential services can run with 30% of current staff strength. Too many employees carrying files and just hanging around at our government offices. Those who are remaining will feel the targets on their backs and will feel the need to actually work to retain their jobs eliminating corruption and inefficiency. 1 Like |

helinues: We Asked For Solutions,Not Fighting: You made a reasonable comments. Mr Ajaero wouldn't reason along that side because he is a bonified Opposition Member and he has brought a calamity to the whole NLC,as he wrongly thought Nigeria is a 2- Party States ( like Britain - Labour or Conservative Party) ,so he assumed Labour Party of Britain is in Nigeria. -Nigeria is a Multiparty States,so for him to be parading LP and he is also an NLC is a wrong footing. Is NLC aware that whatever they agreed with the Fed Govt-as a Minimum Wages will be the base for all Organisations in Nigeria to pay, and the States,e.g a Cleaner, Clerks,Drivers, etc -Where do you want these Organisations to pay the ridiculous 456K he is proposing without sacking most Workers? -Agreed that 30k is no longer tenable because of the Hyper- Inflation,is this NLC proposals tenable? Let jokers think deep and stop the heating up our Country, Nigeria. *The Solutions to these is for Govt- States and Federal to : 1•give enablement in Jobs Creations. 2•Embark on Excess - Food Productions all over Nigeria. 3•Exports Food Productions, 4•Heavy Employments of our Youths - through Industrial Productions and 5• Manufacturing Sectors and Services Sectors. -Then ,Nigeria will be able to earn FOREX ( Foreign Exchange). • CBN MUST be able to give NBillions of Loans, with a Single Digit(5% Interest Rate)- to Small and Medium Scale Businesses to NIGERIANS - to make Nigerians people have trust and values and embark on Industrialization. -But can we do these when Power Supply by DISCOS and GENCO - doesn't exist in Nigeria? -In Ghana, Benin Republic - they don't use Generators again but only in Nigeria. 1 Like |

Going by the minimum wage the NASS shouldn’t have stupendous allowances if Medical doctors and other civil servants especially those in key sectors can’t get a reasonable raise in their allowance. It’s simple if you can collect this big allowance and all you do is sit and represent your constituents then why can’t the civil servants who are the grass root receive a comfortable salary and allowance. The country isnt getting easy on these people inflation has taken out some of their salary just for basic living expenses talk more of emergency expenses. |

If they have the interest of the people at heart, the law makers and senators should review their salary and bonuses by reducing it with 50% to accommodate what NLC have demanded |

Are we suffering?Yes we are.Is N60,000 enough for the National minimum wage compared to the present economic realities? No.Are the NLC and TUC being reasonable with the figures they're tendering to FG?Hell no!I predicted this kind of situation right after I discovered that LP loyalists have become the presidents of the NLC and TUC. 1 Like |

CharleyBright: The 498k minimum wage by labour is just a proposal . Let the government come up with something reasonable, not 60k, and see if labour will reject it before you start condemning them. During the last minimum wage negotiations with Buhari government, labour also did the same thing they're doing now by coming up with figure the government rejected until an agreement for 30k was reached. So history is repeating itself. As for your claim that a food seller will pay her saies girl minimum wage, it's not true. Those category of workers are exempted from receiving minimum wage in Nigeria. Google the minimum wage act of March 2019 to know those in the private sector that pay minimum wage. . Less than 1% pay minimum wage in the private sector in Nigeria. Minimum wage is mostly enjoyed by civil servants. 1 Like |

armo: The question is, will the government be able to afford the cost of sacking 70% of those in the civil service? The public service is not like the private sector where it's easy to hire and fire as you like.Civil servants are under contract with the government .So for you to sack them ,you will have to pay huge compensation which will amount to what you will use for paying them for about 5 years or more. |
