Thunder fire representatives. This is where you people feel you are smart. Let me tell you this...

Ranching or whatever you call it will not work here. Carry your worthless cattle to the SW and enjoy ranching there.

We have said it and will keep saying it ..

Anywhere we see these bastards in the bush they will be brutaly visited as they visit others. She they raped a minor and killed a person that eated to save her...

Una go understand soonest..

Nonsense

PrincessDiana:
It's such a pity that your logic is tainted with so much prejudice and bigotry.

Instead of you to challenge your representatives to making policies and laws suited to our clime and stop importing western processes to the overall detriment of the Nigerian populace.

Ranching can NEVER work in Nigeria. The weather is too unstable.

[quote author=malali post=130330071]Potential Impact on Beef Prices
Implementing large-scale ranching could significantly increase the cost of beef due to the high expenses associated with establishing and maintaining ranches. These would make Nigerian cows too expensive for purchase as cows from Niger and other neighboring countries practicing open grazing will be cheaper in the open market.

Suggested Practical Solutions

Designated Grazing Areas: Allocate specific areas for grazing to prevent clashes while allowing pastoralists to continue traditional herding methods.
Conflict Resolution Mechanisms: Establish local committees to mediate disputes between farmers and herders, promoting peaceful coexistence.
Cooperative Farming: Encourage farmers and herders to form cooperatives, sharing resources and knowledge to improve productivity and harmony.
Community-Based Animal Health Services: Provide mobile veterinary services to support herders, reducing the need for long migrations and potential conflicts.
These solutions aim to be cost-effective and fair to both cattle herders and farmers, ensuring sustainable practices and reducing conflicts.

The Southeast is allowed to ply their trade and open spare parts shop in katsina
The Southwest is holding Aso-rock Office in Abuja
The South-south is FCT Minister in Abuja
Why cant the northern Fulani man feed his cow in the south ?
Lets be tolerant and restructure cattle grazing to accommodate everybody.

Open grazing has done more damage than good to the welfare of the people of this nation.Southerners selling vehicle parts in katsina do not go about encroaching on people’s means of livelihood and taking their lives. The only language the herders understand is violence.I support the bill to abolish open grazing and adopt the modern method of breeding cows which is RANCHING.

Ranching is not affordable by the average fulani herder.
Herding in Nigeria is getting deeper into the south as climate change is "desertifying" north more.
If humans cannot even feed due to inflationary government policies
Realistically, how do you expect the person that has eaten to afford to feed a cow in a ranch ?
I don't know if you are Fulani. If you are one and they are like you I don't need to fear Fulani. Everyone down south is afraid to mingle with Fulani people..those days we so much liked them. When they passed with their cattle we ran out to welcome them. We gave them water they also have out little gifts they had. Some times roots for malaria and even burantashi. But the stories we hear about their vices have made many people not to see them as neighbours.. anyone who sees a Fulani person sees a jihadists. We see an occupier. It is believed they Lorded over Hausa people because hausas welcome them. It is believed they took over Hausa land and commit other atrocities. It will be hard to convince us otherwise.
Re: Lawmakers Move To Restrict Cattle Herders, Northern Senators Fume by PrincessDiana: 2:54pm On Jun 06
Thanks for this common sense post. Nigerians are just too ethnocentric.
They forget that most Nigerians just want to survive, whether east, west, north or south.
malali:

Thank sir you for your comment
Alcohol sale is religious, has nothing to do with the this conversation. In the USA, a lot of "dry counties" dont sell alcohol as well. (Educate yourself if you are not aware)
Ranching would come at prohibitive cost to the average Fulani man, especially in a country where even humans cannot feed adequately due to inflationary government policies.
No deception nor hypocrisy, I am saying Nigerians should be free for all Nigerians to live and practice their trade. Whether you sell drugs as a pharmacist,or spare parts or a Fulani herder or a politician.

Well I appreciate your concern for thinking of a path forward to resolve the conflict between farmers and herders. In reality these action steps will not work because the people involve are not educated enough to engage in civilized cooperation. Any little argument will lead to bloodbath. Moreso, herders just pass through these farms, they are not known and can't be reached - this is the worst part of pastoral herding. I agree with you, no one should be restricted from doing business in any part of Nigeria. Don't just move cattle around. No one move goat or chicken around. And government should not be involved in creating ranches for cattle farmers. They should provide a loan for it that individuals, any individual, can draw from to acquire land for ranches. Cattle farming is no more than a private business like selling gold in Kano or Edo market

If goat can be reared within small confines why don't same be applicable to cow?

Is it compulsory that cows must roam the streets? Why is it that it's only in Nigeria that certain practices as old as the world was created is still being practiced?

You might want to rear goat like chicken in agric cages as well ?
Cows graze in brazil.
Brazil is the world largest producer of beef for a reason.
Even Nigerian human beings grazing with their 2 feet, cannot afford to feed themselves 3 square meals due to inflationary government policies, you now want to tie a cow down.
Ranching is feasible but its very expensive.

You make some good points. Ranching in a country where even humans cant feed themselves due to inflationary government policies is a moot point....as you said we all have problems.
Importing, importing is our arch nemesis today.......we have to buy Nigerian to grow Nigerian.
Brazil is the top world beef producer.Because of longer rainy season in the amazon forest.
Northern Nigeria is fast becoming an arid desert.

You're assuming the same people who can't feed themselves are going to be the ones starting the business. New players will enter the sector with money. The starving herder can sell off his cattle and move on with their life as a cow hand or something else. Nigerians already do buy Nigerian cows but you're complaining about expensive food while blocking out cheaper options.

If Nigerians can't compete that's tough luck. These ranchers better start learning to feed ther cows hay in the dry season. There's plenty of farms that can and will supply it. Open herding is coming to an end just like the age of the cowboy came to end in the 1800s. I doubt these people will be looked at as romantically as the latter.

This was how you people were hailing the vilification of Emefiele as they claimed he stole all the intervention fund for agriculture and that it was all scam. Now we are seeing unprecedented price inflation in food prices due to the stoppage of those funding.

I will be here when Nigerians start to suffer the consequences of their support for stupid government policies. It is difficult for most Nigerians to understand basic cause and effect events because they hardly read to learn but would rather propagate rumours.

Have yhu ever seen an Igbo man fighting with a landlord, demanding for a shop to display his wares by force?

Have yhu ever heard any landlord get killed for not giving out his shop to an Igbo for business?
