You were impressed by $2500 accommodation.
I assumed you were financially challenged.
You make good points

I wasn't impressed by a student whose Nigerian Governor father was paying £2,500 for monthly accommodation here in Cambridge and splashing money around, when UK's best brains attending University of Cambridge, intellectually hot young professionals working at the Silicon Fen here in Cambridge, which is Europe's biggest tech and innovation hub are not keen on paying such despite being part of the brains churning out innovations, we use.

Do you know how much will feed a cow for 2 years in a ranch ??

Compare it to a nomadic free grazing cow ??

Nonsense!!

Cow is not an essential commodity! If cow becomes too expensive, there are thousands of alternatives!!

Ranching i capital intensive, people are complaining of chicken feed talkess of cow feed. I thought you said you were a farmer. You dont know to feed a cow to market prices is expensive in a ranch ? Do you know, grass doesnt grow in the north in dry season ?
I am devastated with deaths from the herders causing trouble, however not all the herders are troublemakers.
I am suggesting structured designated grazing routes.
Human life is more precious than beef! Humans can live without cows' meat!

I agree that not all herders are troublesome, but the numerous troublesome ones are causing enough havoc. There are drought resistant grasses that can be planted and with the help of a little irrigation they'll do well. I have one of such planted on my farm for feeding my goats so that my goats wont eat other farmers crops. We must not insist on an option that puts other farmers at risk just to satisfy herders. Instead of advocating for my goats to be roaming around and be nuisance to others I've spent extra money to cater for my goats. Herders should do same. They should stop using the cost of production to force others to suffer and cry.

I forgot to add that my planted grass which I was reserving to grow to produce seeds for planting this year were invaded in January by cows maned by a young boy. Those grass seeds were bought with money and I was trying to get seeds from those ones so that I don't have to buy more but a herder brought his cows to eat most of them.

These guys should invest in their business like others are doing. I'd rather buy expensive meat than have to loose my life or that of loved ones.

[quote author=malali post=130330071]Removing the Beef subsidy

Potential Impact on Beef Prices
Implementing large-scale ranching could significantly increase the cost of beef due to the high expenses associated with establishing and maintaining ranches. These would make Nigerian cows too expensive for purchase as cows from Niger and other neighboring countries practicing open grazing will be cheaper in the open market.

Suggested Practical Solutions
Designated Grazing Areas: Allocate specific areas for grazing to prevent clashes while allowing pastoralists to continue traditional herding methods.
Conflict Resolution Mechanisms: Establish local committees to mediate disputes between farmers and herders, promoting peaceful coexistence.
Cooperative Farming: Encourage farmers and herders to form cooperatives, sharing resources and knowledge to improve productivity and harmony.
Community-Based Animal Health Services: Provide mobile veterinary services to support herders, reducing the need for long migrations and potential conflicts.
These solutions aim to be cost-effective and fair to both cattle herders and farmers, ensuring sustainable practices and reducing conflicts.

The Southeast is allowed to ply their trade and open spare parts shop in katsina
The Southwest is holding Aso-rock Office in Abuja
The South-south is FCT Minister in Abuja
Why cant the northern Fulani man feed his cow in the south ?
Lets be tolerant and restructure designated cattle grazing areas in every state to accommodate everybody.

Okay if Abuja is reference point let the Fulani graze their cows in Abuja. But I will be damm if they do it in Ijebu ode. Nothing personal folks

They have already exposed themselves. I don't know why Fulanis can't just abandon this archaic lifestyle and struggle to better their lives and not seek to dominate others.
They will surely reject the bill because you see, majority of them have cows. They would rather allow their herders graze on peoples farm, kill, rape and cause havoc. Nonsense men

Fulani who are using the herders to kill and conquer communities were against it.

But it is strange that Abaribe played stupid talking about tampering with the land use act. He needs to get a mental assessment immediately. Doesn't he know if the land use act is changed fulani may use the opportunity to take his people's land away from the custodianship of his state governor? What is he up to?

Southerners dont need Fulani cows,we can rear our own cows for meat, sausages, milk, minced meat, youghurt.Fulanis dont have a monopoly for beef production.Tell your Malo brother to keep the cows for Northern consumption in North west and keep them grazing in Ganduje's ranches in Kano.
Yorubas,Kanuris,Igala,Igbos ,ijaws and other tribes can rear their own cows.

I don't think anybody said anything about not allowing herdsmen rear their cattles but it should not be at the detriment of other people's business. Using cows to destroy farm produce, causing and creating nsisabce on our roads. Igbos or other people who do businesses in the North pay for shops and do not use their businesses to destroy other people's means of livelihood.. These Fulani /Hausa cattle owners and rearets, their own done too much sef.. Are cows part of the citizens of Nigeria?? Those are personal businesses especially...

Thank you for being civil with your comment. Nowadays we have to thank people for civility,as its rare on Nairaland. I understand the concerns raised. I do not have the answer,i think we have the worlds cheapest beef because of open grazing. Taking away cheap beef could have a lot of consequences down the line. Ranching is expensive. A lot of people throwing the word around. Grazing routes could be established. Nigeria is big enough, to accommodate farmers a ranchers. Feeding a cow in a ranch for 2 years before selling will make beef prices next to Gold in Nigeria. Trust me. Look at beef prices in USA, Brazil and China. We cannot pay those prices with our minimum wage.

I was angry when someone attacked you that you will die when you move cattle to the East. Nigerians are becoming intolerant which one another and the scale is becoming alarming. Very soon, I will be writing to National Assembly about tribal bully in Nigerian online space and to set law against it. You can bully race in America and go Scot free.

Nomadic farming practice just have its on own drawbacks as we move into a modern society. Herders children lack basic education. And that has continued some economic and security concerns for everyone’s. Food prices are so high because no one goes to farm anymore in fear of herders attack. These are real issues. We buy petrol and gold in world market price. We can buy beef also. Our chicken price is already more than world market price. Cow is not any cheaper in market even with free 2 yr feed. Cattle with good feeds takes 12 -14 months to maturity. The number of deaths associated with cattle rearing is enough to stop herding!

Grass doesnt grow in more than half of Nigeria in the dry season.
Read your geography sir.
Its a desert during the dry season
The level of lies and deceit you guys churn out just to have your way on grabbing people's lands is sickening.
If the far north is truly a desert region, how then do they produce farm produce during the dry season? What is all the Fadama projects sponsored by the Federal government about. All the dams built up in the far north also dry up in the dry season right? You're pathetic.
I'll also want to let you know that we know Niger republic has over twice the number of cattles Nigeria has which means that they are doing better in cattle production than Nigeria especially you lots in the far north. The same dryland of Niger feeds over 40 million cattles but you want to deceive people that your North West and North East can't feed the 18 million cattles in your area. You must think we are dumb.
Geographically, Niger is just north of your own territory and even drier than your own land yet the produce more cattle. This shows that you're a liar and definite up to no good with your false claims about the dryness of the far north of Nigeria.
