I want to assume you are not from these continent, however if you must know in africa esp.. Nigeria inheritance are for children
The wife/mother is duely compensated but naa the children get the property and will manage the property
In the event of no will, the 1st child is entitled to largest share, even the law recognises the 1st born

Don't mind that goofy guy! Properties of fathers belongs to the children not wives

Another reason why men should enjoy their lives while they are still alive in stead of acquiring different properties all in the name of --'I am securing my children's future by building houses and land".

Cuz the moment after you die,the way those your so-called children and wife go do collabor just to dey whip-whip and sell sell your properties go even shock you for your grave undecided

Logically true because it happened in my immediate family 😢
I realize u shouldn't kill urself all in the name of acquiring properties sometimes .
Although it's good whole alive

People still fight over their father's properties. I never made that mistake from early in life, I told myself that I was going to build wealth and amass my properties myself.

My motto is " Whatever I do not acquire myself , does not belong to me"
While my late dad was alive,, I already had three houses and land. Now their three houses are extra for us the three children.

My point: let's build our wealth while parents are alive.

May God give us grace.

Honestly, I am surprised at such an entitlement mentality.

There's a difference between entitlement mentality and inheritance. Learn to differentiate them.

Hello Nairaland lawyers please i need your advice.
My mother and elder sister sold our late father's house secretly without our consent around february this year but we just found out only recently. It's a 4 bedroom bungalow. The buyer has completed renovation.Have we lost out? They didn't share the money they are holding on to it.Is there anything that can be done at this point in time?
If u r a man, double your hustle, if otherwise, focus on your marriage or how to get married...move on!

4 bedroom bungalow in Nigeria of today is nothing but a property that can only sort a family without extended relatives

Sigh... I wasn't even up to 16 years old when I washed my hands off anything pertaining to future fight over inheritance.

Any serious young man, even woman, should work hard and aim to make his own money and build his own legacy.

No wonder great men like Jackie Chan and Daniel Craig vowed to donate all their life earnings to charity.

After a man's death, the person who should solely be in charge of his house, in the absence of a Will and Testament ought to be his immediate surviving spouse.

All that time you use in waiting for inheritance or share of legacy suppose reach you to hustle and push to build your own.

There are orphans and kids from less privileged homes that are doing well as adults, and building their own legacies.

You are absolutely wrong ! Do u know how many legacies father's live for their children and is benefiting thousands of lived today?

How can spouses be ? U av no understanding that her family would not respect the properties and would either sell share or distribute to their own kids thereby erasing the legacies of that man's family ?

Reason am naaa! If the adeleke wives are allowed to inherit wealth would Davido be rich today?

I think, now I understand the sayings of most of these crooked females, "don't date or marry a broke man". They try to reap cos they got pvssy!!!! If it were the other way now, human rights and Simps would be on the matter.

If u are the most senior and a responsible fellow,u will win this case and the buyer would definitely want to have some settlements with u.

Only if the family has not tagged u as a prodigal son and one who is into drugs.

He doesn't have a single case if the mother is involved and the father has no will

In marriage all what the man has also belongs to the wife and vice versa, it's hard to prove your father singlehandedly built the house, the mother can lay claim to the house more than any child by claiming the house was jointly built from her sweat

Maybe you are missing my main point...!

It's a father's responsibility to raise his kids well, and if possible, leave a strong legacy for them.

However, the legacy or inheritance part is not carved in stone!

Let me be a bit clearer...!

No father owes his kids a damn inheritance!!! Yes, you read that right!

What a father owes his kids is a proper and right upbringing.

Inheritance is more or less a bonus!

A serious child cannot and shouldn't focus and keep waiting for his or her share of the father's estate.

That's why no law is broken if the father wills everything to anyone he likes prior to his demise.

That house belongs to you if you are the only male, even if you have a thousand other properties in that city.
I hate oppression.
Don't mind those fools dragging you. They are from poor homes they envy anyone with a successful father. Their useless dads left nothing behind because they owned nothing hence they are pained. Na son dey inherit papa property. Go and complain to your real blood relatives.

Please be more specific, which country or culture is 1st born more entitled than other kids and on what basis, definitely not Yoruba maybe Igbo

Unless the first born contributed more in building the house than other kids

It depends on the type of marriage your dad and mum we into. If it's court marriage, forget it. If it's traditional marriage something can be done. But put this in mind, who get paper to some extent na the person get house

Oh boy u av an ideology but in reality, legacies are physical inheritance! U must leave properties for your children so they don't start from zero!

Look at Africa that nothin works, chances are not equal unlike Europe, what gives u edge is what ur parents leave for u !

Aside that we are patrilineal society in Africa, only men and first born controls inheritance!

It's a good ideology to train kids but opportunities are not equal in Africa so u need to balance it up in reality by leaving something behind for ur kids.

Why is Ikoyi and lekki full of legacies and most high brow areas, school, jobs full of parents footsteps!

Pls leave something behind for ur kids not your wife, ur wife ha had a lifetime of comfort with u.

is there a will or stipulated tradition to use to address the issue?

The person with the original documents usually can sell the property but it is scandalous to not involve the kids or family direct members.

Speaking on the subject matter; 1. your mother have a secrete only she and your sister knows and if you ask me I will say “your sister is not your fathers daughter “
2. Either you’re not responsible or not capable enough to make decisions

Fight them for your money. It is not the buyer's fault at this case. And if you drag the buyer to court, your mom and sister may end up in prison or worse if found guilty.
How can his mum end up in prison over her property when there's no will bequeathing it to him?
If he was a good son, she wouldn't sell it in secret with his sister, their action shows that there's something wrong in the family
