For the keys, you may need to change the keyboard. Open Ms word and test all the keys to examine the lines that are not working. If all the keys are working it maybe that the system is hanging.

As per the diagnostics, you can snap and insert the screenshot but it’s possible your HDD is gradually failing and needs replacement.

Run
Cmd in administrator
Type this command chkdsk c: /r /f
If it prompt you to run on the next startup type y and enter
Be sure the PC is plugged to light and allow the disk check to complete. If you interrupt the process or system goes off while it’s running, it may damage your disk entirely.

I get these when I turn it on

Are you trying to upgrade or reload the OS?

Either secure boot or legacy boot is disabled on bios. Kindly go back to bios and check which of the two boot options is disabled. If legacy is disabled, enable and if secure boot is disabled, enable it. The two cannot be active as same time.

You can as well clarify us on what you did that resulted to the screenshot for further guidance.

I get these when I turn it on

Go to the Start Menu, type msconfig in the search box, and press Enter or use Window + R key to open command box and type msconfig.
Then Press Enter or click on the program in the search results to launch it.
When the msconfig dialogue box is open, Click on the Boot tab.
Un-check the Safe boot check box under Boot options.

The above will turn off HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI during startup

Yes your IT guy is right.

There’s need to take it to a trusted engineer for proper troubleshooting. Things that can cause system to ON and go off abruptly without booting as follows;

1. If a liquid substance has entered the laptop and penetrated through keyboard or back vent to the motherboard
2. If debris has blocked the processor cooling vent or heat sink
3. Faulty power
4. Defective motherboard
5. Damaged fan etc

So try booting it with battery and if it goes off abruptly, check the cooling vent to see if it’s dusty and blow the dusts off to allow adequate air flow into the processor.

I strongly advise you to take it for repair asap to avoid more damage on the motherboard in case its water that entered it.

A drop of ice from chilled bottle or sachet water can drop in the keyboard and penetrate into the motherboard.

Thanks.

You’re absolutely right.

The engineer showed and confirmed to me that water entered through the keyboard a while ago and thats what caused the issue. He said the processor is affected and we need to change it. However the processor is inbuilt and not the type that can be removed without touching the motherboard, hence practically the motherboard is gone.

Just wanted to confirm from you, is it possible to fix the processor without it affecting the motherboard?
Otherwise do you have an idea how much motherboard costs for this laptop model?

The track pad on my Elite book 830 G6 is unresponsive, I have tried tapping the top right corner of the track pad to turn it on but that doesn't help. Occasionally, I would use the laptop's touchscreen to navigate since the track pad is unresponsive then mistakenly touch the trackpad and the cursor would show up on the screen and start being responsive all over again but the trouble continues when I turn the PC off and back on or restart it.
How do I permanently fix this problem?

Sorry about the issue that has affected your motherboard. I do not have an idea on the cost due to unavailability of most boards. You can drop the laptop model on this Forum to see if anyone has the motherboard or knows where you can get it. I don’t think it’s possible to replace or fix on-board processor.

Another alternative is to remove the laptop and cmos battery, then keep the laptop for a month, two or more and then put back the batteries plugged to power and try switching it ON.

It may come back to life after a long period of time.

I don’t get the part of ‘removing the laptop’. Or your mean removing the laptop’s cmos battery?

If so how can I do that?

Let me confirm something, does it shutdown immediately it shows the HP logo or when it's about to enter desktop?

Hope you didn't spill liquid on it, another option is uninstalling the mouse driver in device manager, then you restart the laptop.

If it doesn't work then consider replacing it.

Good day all,
Please my dell i7 laptop, I downloaded a file online and it was in rar form so after extracting the file it was asking for password which I didn't know so I left it.
Two days later, I noticed my WiFi wasn't active so when I checked device manager, the WiFi adapter wasn't present again then i tried system repair during start up but it was taking time so i hardboot n removed the battery then placed it back..
So now the system is getting hot when switched on and just stuck in the windows boot screen.
What can be the cause

I mean removing both the laptop battery and CMOS battery. Newer models laptop does not have cmos so ignore if your laptop is not having a cmos battery and only remove the laptop battery. It will make the cells in the motherboard to discharge completely and reset with time.

It doesn’t get to show the HP at all.

Only the fan starts to roll then goes off almost immediately.

Thanks very much. I’ve removed the battery.

Will wait for two months before inserting and trying it again.

What can be the cause

Backup the PC and reinstall windows. Then run windows update after the installation to update your drivers. It is possible the rar file was the culprit that compromised your OS infecting it with virus or malware.

Before proceeding to format, remember to backup your files

Another alternative is to remove the HDD, slave it in another PC and run chkdsk drive letter: /f /r

You may require an IT specialist to carry out the above.

What do you want to use the laptop for?

840 G3 is a good laptop, I hope it came with 8/256gb? You can use it for graphic design and even play light game, you can use it for programming too if you want.

I've been using this my PC Dell Inspiron core i5, 1TB 8GB for the past 7 years and it's working so perfectly except bad battery
I use it for architectural and structural design work and sometimes play soccer on it whenever I'm less busy
I notice today as I am enjoying my pes that my system just suddenly became so hot that I quickly take it away from my lap and I notice the fan isn't blowing.
It still work well yesterday but as I on it today is another story
What could be the cause and what is the possible solution
Thanks
