Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Engineer Abubakar Momoh, has said the people of the South-South region have no cause to protest against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Addressing State House Reporters on Wednesday, the Minister said this is because the President has undertaken series of projects aimed at not only developing the area, but empowering the youths.

The minister said the problem with some of those angling for protest is that they are not aware of the litany of projects dotting the landscape of the Niger Delta, adding that “what we have observe is that majority of Nigerians and particular the youths are not very much conversant with a number of programs put in place to alleviate the suffering of the youths in this country.

“In the Niger Delta region, the President has done a lot and I don’t think any person who is from the Niger Delta area will deem it necessary to come out and say he’s protesting against bad governance.

“The number of projects that have been executed in the south south region and particularly the Niger Delta region within this one year cannot be compared with what has happened previously in the last four years. For instance recently, you watched us on the screen commissioning projects in the Niger Delta area.

“The Okitipupa electricity project that was commissioned recently is a project that has been there for a very long time and for 15 years about seven local governments were never connected to the National grid and this administration came and with the intervention of Mr President giving necessary directives that all such abandoned project should be completed.

“He instructed the Managing Director of NDDC to effect the completion of those projects that is why you see that today those local government areas are now connected and in Ogbia/Nembe road that has seven bridges and 25 culverts in the heart of Niger Delta region where you have flood was recently commissioned.

Speaking specifically onthe protest he sa d, “I don’t think there is anybody including the President of this country who would think protesting is a sin, but what we are saying is that in the name of protest do not come and cause mayhem or destroy the properties of innocent citizens. Do not come and cause mayhem because the freedom you have to protest has a limit you do not have freedom to protest and cause destruction.

“So, the youths the country is your own, the future is your own if you destroy what you will live upon in the future then it becomes a serious problems. I appeal to the youths to take advantage of the numerous youth programs that have been Initiated by this government.”

Niger Deltans should channel their energy into more productive ventures rather than protests that yield no results.

The noise won't change the situation; it's just a distraction from the real issues at hand. Time to focus on solutions, not street drama.

These people are so rattled over a planned peaceful protest

They have deployed all known intimidation tactics behind the scenes including using keypad warriors and agberos online to threaten violence

This government is just bereft of normal sense, or they just chose to not regard the Nigeria populace.

You do not need to plead wirh me, I know when leave or stay under the sun, depending how it reacts to my body.

Telling a hungry man not to speak up, is more like calling him/her a foolish person, that person doesn't know what he/she is feeling.

Please tell us the solutions and issue at hand, smart ass.
Protest suddenly went out of fashion when APC and Tinubu went from opposition to ruling party with even worse economic metrics.

Obi lamba followers that instigated these protests have openly denied association with it, hoping it succeeds. Like their masters (Obi and Oby) trade in stock, they take no responsibilities. If it fails, they'll mock the protests. If it succeeds, they'll hail it. Any which way, the government gets the stick. They'll rather that the protests and bad situations get worse than that government succeeds. i don't know the witchcraft that is more than this.

If the niger Delta controlled it's own resource, they'd have no reason to protest.

But they don't and must protest against the cocaine sniffing emilokan

When as a govt u're not accountable to the people, u're not engaging them as to what and what is going in govt.

Nigerian govt is being run like a cult that only it's members have right to know what happens within it, that's exactly what Nigeria is like.

Although, we may not understand the efforts the Tinubu admin. Is putting in to address the rots.

It's just can't be so right nice without food being a major concern of the people

You keep hearing projects in the Niger Delta... Most of them are lies. Many of these projects are awarded to cronies and allies of the corrupt government in the region. Akpabio, James Ibori and many of the corrupt leaders in the region are now in one party

The government should tell us how many Niger Delta youth have been employed in NNPC. How many trainings have they facilitated and the youth they've empowered. Publish their names

The East West road, which is the major road in Niger Delta can't be piled. It's a dead trap

Or do they mean, awarding contracts to their friends and thugs are the achievements? Let the statistics be released, showing us true empowerment in the region.

I will continue saying it. The Northerners both literates and illiterates are everywhere in the force, how many Niger Deltan youth is employed by these oil companies in the Niger Deltan? How many seaports has the government allowed to work as that of Apapa in Lagos? The refineries there, are they working?

Our people are into farming and fishing... The lands aren't productive anymore due to the oil drilling. The rivers are destroyed on daily basis due to spillages. My people are left in severe hunger, except for those that can go into crimes like bunkering or carrying of arms as a militant... If you chose the good and responsible lives then, you have to go out of the region or better still settle for the least

Take the statistics of those working in all the subsidiaries of NNPC, Shell, Chevron and the likes, we're the least.

The cost of food and buying of basic needs in the Niger Deltan is a triple of what we experience in other parts of the country. Because, you go to same market you have a worker in these oil companies. House rent nkor? Sometimes, this trader have to travel down to Lagos to buy goods, after adding the cost of logistics to the region, one can't even imagine the cost.

Fuel is more expensive to buy in Niger Delta. Don't even talk about electricity...

We're the most peaceful region with all the resources and hardship at the same time. Not even talking about the environmental impact on our people

The government can be very specific, but, when it gets to Niger Delta, they start talking vague.

You are a hypocritical traitor to to your generation.
I know you don't know the real meaning of protest.
Protest, and I mean constant protests , chased the military of governance back to the barracks.
Stop bringing curses to children.
