Good day, everyone. I'm a recent graduate of Chemical Engineering looking to apply for an MSc in Cyber Security. 1. Do I need to complete NYSC before applying for my master's? 2. Is it possible to gain admission to a Cyber Security master's program given that my bachelor's degree is in Chemical Engineering? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by OyoTunjiUSA(m): 8:54am On Aug 03 |
Breegz14: Hey 🤠 1. No ! You do not need NYSC discharge or exemption certificate to process Msc admissions, but i will recommend you serve your father land if you are within the age range. Rounding off with NYSC has future advantages, and it's the golden-crown of your academic swagger. 2. Yes it is possible . The Chemical Engineering you are coming from is in the same core science orientated subject modules with Cyber security . 3. But you may have to demonstrate your proficiency in the field of Computer Science first (by relevant work experience, research papers etc.). A good LOR (letter of recommendation) that can back your claim up of having good proficiency in computer science will be very helpful. 4. Your most reliable sources of answer is to contact your prospective desire departments at different Universities in the USA. Best Wishes. 🙏 2 Likes |

OyoTunjiUSA: Thank you for your kind response. My final year project centered on creating a predictive model, and I plan on completing a couple of online coding courses. Can these attest to my proficiency? |

Good day all. Please how long is the wait period for one to re-apply? @OyoTunjiUSA |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by chidiakwari: 1:26pm On Aug 03 |
Breegz14:You do not need to complete your NYSC or even go for one to apply for US admission. You should be fine applying for Cyber Security program. 2 Likes |

Breegz14: 🤠 1. Yes. Those knowledge or experiences can attest to your proficiency, especially, if the coding courses are from accredited/reputable institutions. 2. You will need LOR (s) with human contact information to back it up. Your Personal essay or SOP is another opportunity to express your skills. Best Wishes 🙏 1 Like |

Tonynatty: Hey 🤠 1. You can re-apply immediately, and infact , i usually recommend immediate re-application (only based) on the circumstances where you might have been interviewed by inexperienced, hasty, or unfair consular officer. 2. Nevertheless, it is generally recommended that you put in for re-application only when you have the natural inclination that your previous circumstances which brought about your first denial has improved. Best Wishes 🙏 |

Hi guys... If your interview date was rescheduled, to a week later, does it mean something? Is there a reason for that? No reason was given in the mail just rescheduled to the following week. Who has experienced this? |

Gosas: What was your GRE Score? Why are you not also considering Masters? How good is your mathematical skills? My advice coming from Nigeria in Economics is to do a Masters before PhD. You can drop your what's app number if you wan my to talk more. I studied Economics and may be able to give a few tips/advice. 2 Likes |

Hello, 1. You don't need to complete your NYSC before applying for MSc in the US. 2. Yes, you might get admission into an institution, but you might have challenges during the visa interview because there is no career progression. You don't have relevant experience in cyber security or a degree in computer science. Breegz14: |

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by yinkhar(f): 7:28pm On Aug 04 |
anamo: My little piece of advice is stop wasting your visa chances. Get here and talk to other professors in the department for funding or apply to other schools while you are already here. Staying back in Nigeria doesn’t solve anything and giving up at the first challenge means you never wanted to study from the beginning! 2 Likes |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by anamo: 8:06pm On Aug 04 |
yinkhar: I tried reaching out to two professors trying to get a GA, but wasn’t successful.. and the fear of not being able to waive my tuition is also there if i landed..I also depend a whole lot on the funding as I don’t have a dime to support myself beyond the first month… it’s just going to be more miserable. Well, maybe I should just diss the idea over all and try some other countries. Thanks |

Good evening Seniors in the house, Please what's the success rate for approval of emergency visa appointment for F1 visa? Is it always honoured if you meet up with the creteria of school resuming soon and no visa appointment date? Please I want to know if it's embassy dependent too. Which is more flexible for an emergency visa approval? Abuja or Lagos? I await your honest response (s) sir/ma. |

Thanks a bunch for your detailed reply. I now have an idea on what to expect. One more question tho? Is there a particular type of GRE test he has to write for his type of course? Also I just google searched GRE test locations and it says it can be done at home. I this correct? OyoTunjiUSA: |

ge: 29 Level: 200L CGPA: 3.62 Course: English I submitted two certificates of return as evidence of excellent extracurricular activities particularly in leadership. I have one strong recommendation letter. I have a good personal statement highliting my writing skills and its impact. I applied for application fee waiver because I have no money to pay for the application and I submitted my father's Certificate of Death and my termination of employment letter as prove of financial hardship. What's my chances of securing admission? I'll need a cosigner if I am going for other loans and I have no one right now in the US that can do that for me. Anyways, anyway is a way. Let me just get the admission first and everything will fall in places. If I am able to secure admission, secure loan to fund me, Visa won't be a problem. I'll ace it! @OyoTunjiUSA GboyegaD Zinho |

Honestly, your case looks spiritual. First you were sick, now funding withdrawn. A clear case of failure at the edge of breakthrough. I will advise that you take some days to fast and pray let God speak to you. Even if you try another country, a new problem might still spring up. Secondly, If it were me, I will still go. God works with our faith. Didn't you make friends the first time you were there? People that can link you up with under the table jobs? At least to pay your rent and feed while you try to find a solution. anamo: 1 Like |

Teenuh: Hey 🤠 1. GRE Scores above 330 are exceptional and will make your application stand out. However, 300 - 310 are still safe scores, which can make your application merit a look in most USA Universities. 2. There are 2-types of GRE " * GRE General ( Mostly- required. This tests your verbal and quantitative reasonings, as well as your analytical writing skills). * GRE Subjects ( Less- required. This tests your strength in your major subject area eg someone applying for PhD in physics. The requirement for gre-subject depends on your host University's specific departmental requirement). 3. But do not rely on GRE. PhD application is primarily about displaying creation of new knowledge. So, the most important criterion of admission would be the strength of your research problem and its alignment to your would-be Professor or Department that you are seeking to apply to. 4. Yes. You can write GRE at home and you will be well-monitored. But, i would rather you sat for it at a general center if you do not have any disability. Best Wishes 🙏 |

dest4real: Hey 🤠 1. The success rate for Emergency F1-VISA appointment is 90% ov.100 for all international students but only If they follow the laid down procedures , and they are first-timers. 2. Yes. It is always honoured (if you follow the rules). I don't think there is any travel section (worldwide) that match the population of international students that must resume into USA institutions yearly. Its a bigger contribution to USA economies and human resources. 3. Abuja, and Lagos are guided by same rules. Well , it is believed (not official record) that Lagos population of F1-VISA seekers is higher than those of Abuja but i don't believe in the notion. Best Wishes 🙏 2 Likes |
