I have always advised men to build alone . Never build ur home with ur wife! It is risky . Very risky. I witnessed a 60 year old wife and 67 year old wife fight bitterly cos the man had a don outside. The wife knowing fully well she contributed to the house the live in which happens to be only house. Asked court to sell off the property and give her half of the proceeds. She provided strong evidence and that house was sold. Old man is now a tenant, old woman moved in with her son after brainwashing all her kids to hate father

I don't want to believe that ladies' obsession with court marriages is to get 50% of their husbands' assets. This is the same thing that destroyed marriage institutions in the west. And Nigerian ladies with yahoo mindsets have been its biggest beneficiaries in the west.
Not when the husband has nothing to share grin

I will take this more seriously if it's came from a female lawyer.

Everybody naturally supports what favours them, if they were in the shoes.

Only a person of truth and high level integrity will stand for what is right no matter it's favourableness.

Conclusion: it would have more impact if comment was from a female lawyer.

Most times, it's because of wicked in-laws.

Ladies go into marriage with the mindset that their husband will die first, so they want to be sure that no brother inlaw or any inlaw will have a claim to the husband's property when he dies from things that wouldn't have killed him if he was single.

That of naija ladies is not channeled towards divorce, but rather in event of death. To ensure they are secured to inherit asset without disturbance from family members.
The downside is that knowing it is through the demise of their partners they can inherit, poisoning and other means will be rampant, especially in a our society where autopsy is hardly done.
There was a part of the east back then where you had lots of rich widows. Legend had it they kpai their husbands at a certain stage of sucess.

that's why a man should not allow emotions to control his senses, I've an experience with a colleague and also a sister her husband is not having a job, why the wife is working but she's taking all the responsibility but the wife is working in another state their children stay with the wife. The next thing that the man will do is to carry another girl for house planing to marry the 2nd wife and you know woman now the pain started to show on her face, she was forced to tell the first son the boy now challenged his father that why did you want to marry another woman the man didn't have an excuse than to say that his Mom no dey hear word. The woman told the boy that all my salary what I'm I using it for the boy said you are using it to buy foods stuff at home, when old age come the woman will fight her return match because that's the time woman use to wait for when man don't have the strength again. If you are a man and you want to run street run it wisely and invest wisely because old age no funny at all there are many battles awaiting a man.

As a husband if I will all my properties to charity, upon demise I hope the court will follow through and not pass it along to my spouse or children?

Wills can be challenged on the grounds if mental capacity and reasonableness. If anyone prepares a will like this it needs to be accompanied by an ethical will that lays out the reasoning behind such a decision.

If the person is married only under customary law, such a testamentary declaration will be over turned at the speed of light.

The percentage you get should depend on how long you've stayed in the marriage.

1 year= 1%
10 years= 10%
20 years = 20%

Involuntary full time housewives should get more as it will be difficult for them to start again from the scratch.

Is this your perception, opinion or what the law says?

There are a number of judgments that flow opposite to what this one is talking about so I don't know which law he is referencing. In the South at least, the likely position is a 50% split of properties and wealth acquired in the life of the marriage.

So a naija woman will divorce just for 50% property? The man doesn't know what he is saying.
In my opinion, women in naija don't benefit from marriage. If it ends, you are at the mercy of a man to even see food money for the children. If he doesn't send money, you will be accused of causing it because you poisoned your children mind against him".If the man earns 20m in a month. He will calculate the exact money needed,or send like 100k per month for the kid upkeep,if you resist(based on his earning power) you will be accused of being a gold digger trying to milk him.

You claim women value reduce once they are married and given birth, and no one will be able to marry them afterwards, while you can easily move on and land a chick.yet the idea of paying for a woman whose life is truncated and sexual market value plummeted as a result of her union with with you,is called trying to milk you.

One day, just like Korean women, naija women will say no to marriage until a system that protects them is installed

I HAVE LONG SAID IT AND MAINTAIN THAT THE UPSTART CALLED THE NEGRO BY EUROPEAN AND ABEED BY ARAB, MEANING NATURAL BORN SLAVE, EXISTENCE IS TO COPY THE WHITE AND ARABS, WHILST SUBJUGATING HIM SELF TO PEPETUAL SERVITUDE.

ANYBODY AMONGST THEIR RANK THAT DARE TO HAVE A MIND ON HOW THINGS SHOULD BE DONE IS IMMEDIATELY CONDEMNED AND KILLED.

IT ALWAYS HAS TO BE THE MASTER WAY.

EVERYBODY LIVING IN THE ZOO SHOULD GO AND BUY A GUN, WE MUST LIBERATE OURSELVES FROM THIS SLAVE MENTALITY BY FIRE AND BY FORCE.

IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME, THE INSTITUTION THAT WILL ORDER 50% IS ALREADY THERE IN LAGOS COURT, THEY HAVE SET IT UP, WAITING FOR THE PERFECT TIME.

EVERYTHING WILL BE JUST LIKE AMERICA EXCEPT FOR THE STANDARD OF LIVING AND DEVELOPMENT.

OF COURSE!

The senseless law abroad is evil and completely ridiculous.

AFTER DIVORCE, A MAN'S RESPONSIBILITY SHOULD ONLY BE TO TAKE CARE OF THE CHILDREN.

You can't reject someone and still want to share and enjoy their hard earned money.

You're not supposed to be entitled to someone's properties just because you're married to them, IN AS MUCH AS YOU DID ACQUIRE SUCH PROPERTY WITH THEM.

THAT RUBBISH LAW CAN NEVER AND WILL NEVER WORK IN NIGERIA... BECAUSE DEAD BODY GO SUPLOUS

What you said is not far from the truth. I remember the first house I rented, my girlfriend then supported me with some token to complete the initial fee, when I tried to pay her back after about a month, interval she refused to collect her money back. Guess what, that was my greatest undoing, little thing she will say she contributed for the rentage of the House and I dare not bring another girl to the house; even when she was not supporting for subsequent rents. I have to rent another house without her knowledge even though I didn't planned for it.

Your will can be challenged. That is why some give a portion to charity and to family. Even at that, they still challenge the will. 😄
