KIDfurniture: How much did the man contribute to the building of the house? As stated in the thread ... the woman will have to provide a lot of evidence to prove her contribution ... she obviously did to get even more than half. Seems like this is the flip side of the topic ... the man entering the marriage with the intention of reaping what he did not sow. @ topic ... people watch too much TV and believe all laws are international... what applies in the US applies in Nigeria. They find out when they go to court. Many men on the other hand fall victim to the same mentality ... believe Nigerian laws apply abroad only to find out the hard way that the laws are tilted towards women... and women do take advantage of it |

Trueprophet91: Correction I should have explicitly said " a parents duty" ( I was taking one for both). Cases are decided by human beings not robots and there is a general expectation that parents will do their best for their families in a way that's fair and equitable. Any departure from this will require extensive contextual explanation. Which is why we have ethical and holographic Wills which allow greater depth for an explanation of why a particular course of action is being taken. Outside of such context a court will apply a reasonableness test to any Will. A person can do what he or she wants with their assets but it cannot be illegal, social reprehensible or weird. While courts in western nations may accept a 100% allocation to a pet dog, Nigeria and global south Nations are not there yet. |

Tightpussy2024: My dear every union is built on "convincing/deceit" you have to act towards or talk or convince the person into believing in you and sticking with you at all times. Even when there are better options out there. You can call it love ( we can still find love after one ends), but it is a game of convincing the other person into believing you are the best they can ever get. I call it "deceit" |

masterfactor:as a Nigerian you don't need to register any of your property in your mother's name or your relatives name to be safe from alimony,if a woman divorces her husband she has severed all inheritance, property rights, privilege and status in that family, the best she can do is to find another man to marry her 1 Like |

cococandy: On the contrary we have low divorce rate cos our culture, family values, religion and societal standards berate divorce, its a stigma not a thing of pride as you would have preferred even men "Financial oppression" as weakened in this era cos more women now work and full housewife is fast becoming archaic.. |

masterfactor:It's not legal in Nigeria, that's why the lawyer said what he said so even if you marry a billion wives and divorce them tomorrow, they have no right to your properties or money |
Re: You Can’t Get 50% Of Husband’s Properties After A Divorce in Nigeria - Lawyer by cococandy(f): 12:22pm On Aug 23 |
You should have low divorce rates because spouses are feeling loved and cherished by each other. They want to stay with each other. They want to stay married because they feel supported by their communities. Because their kids are happy in the homes they’ve built. They can grow personally and as a couple. Marriage shouldn’t last because there’s a stigma around divorce. Stigma is not a good thing. It has never been. What it does is that it shames people into not reaching out for help, for support. Shames them into putting up with dangerous situations. Stigma is disgusting. Do better chidiokay: 1 Like |

My brother it was a long case. I was contacted to buy the property which was just 15m that year after hearing the reason for the sale I quietly disappeared but followed up through my lawyer. The woman was a full time government worker she kept all receipts. You know men always want to play smart with their wives. He even had the money to finish it then but didn’t want to cos he was into beer parlor life and womanizing. While he spent little and didn’t keep record , wifey was keeping every single receipt. I think cos she knew the type of man God blessed him with. She won the case o as u could only tender few receipts in court. She got more than half of money. It happened in Ibadan. My own friend lost a property to his wife 3 years ago cos the woman had more funds in the project. It wasn’t even completed then and he didn’t want to go to court. She was able to prove to families that she had the most money in the project cos she was employed and my friend didn’t have a stable income. He swallowed his pride and let her keep it for the sake of the kids. My brother just build ur house by ur self and ask her to move in with you. She can’t even tell court to sell ur house knowing fully well she didn’t put a dime. Be wise guys Originalsly: 1 Like |

I’m glad she just showed you little action out of many more actions stored in her Ghana must go. Did you eventually marry her ? Plz are you still together ? When I was single I paid all my rent myself and never asked any girl to help me pay a dime. Man must be a man in this life. Never ask for financial help from a woman that is not ur mother or sisters. If you must do plz use a lawyer that will prepare an agreement for the both of you. I v it in mind to build a house for my wife soon. Not big but something nice to appreciate her for being honest & loyal. Future project . God willing. Women can be a curse and a blessing to a man same as MEN to women. Choose wisely Odidigboigbo: |

Many things people who claim to be saint don’t understand about life. Some of us will have more than 1 wife & be very responsible . While some men will keep sleeping around and have kids outside marriage their choice. What your destiny saying about you ? Tightpussy2024: |

If you read some of my replies you would see that we are almost on the same page. Men forget themselves too much especially when life is easy for them. They feel the sweetness will last forever. Yes we have women like that, their pay back time is when the man’s strength is gone or when the chips is low or the worst when they eventually move abroad. Women don’t forget everything you do to them especially the bad ones only x you see the good ones they tend to forget them because the moment u start messing up the ugly things start to erase all the good memories. If you like to sleep around plz don’t hide it from her let her know you like sex a lot with different women if she is cool with it you will know. If you will marry more women in the future plz let her know. Don’t change over night cos you made money o. It’s risky A woman can kill a man very slowly - even autopsy won’t pick the cause of death. Be wise. Oshin56: |
