Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, is dead.

Ayilara, it was gathered, died in the early hours of Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, The Nation reported.

Sources close to the family told The Nation he underwent prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday before he died hours later.

“We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead,” the family was quoted as saying.

A top police officer in Akwa Ibom State, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, also confirmed the CP’s death.

In November 2023, as a DCP, Ayilara was unveiled as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos.

Ayilara, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, took over from AIG Idowu Owohunwa.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, deployed Ayilara to head Akwa Ibom State Command in February 2024.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has been confirmed dead.

POLITICS NIGERIA understands that Ayilara died in the early of Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

Sources close to the family said the senior police officer underwent a prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, he succumbed to the cold hands of death on Thursday due to some complications.

“We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara is dead,” the family member said.

Ayilara is scheduled to be buried on Thursday according to Islamic rites.

Rare for people to die of prostate cancer. It is slow growing and most affected would have died of natural causes before dieing of the cancer. Moreover he should not have had surgery if he was not fit especially with Nigeria's poor health care facilities. RIP to the commissioner.

Visited a friend recently and his neighbor was saying that she didn't knew that one girl in their compound was her coursemate MBBS ooo ..
She only comes for Exams and after sort things out with lecturers ..
Currently I have two dundies that are studying nursing in a reputable tertiary institution living in my streets...

This prostrate cancer is taking people's life than we imagined. I worked in a male surgical ward in a teaching hospital for a month and we lost 5 patients due to this.

Men over 40 years should always take their PSA test seriously
