cococandy: What is the highest taxes one can pay as a California resident? Federal + state? For someone who earns 250K a year he is 35% Federal and 9% State which is 44%. So how much more taxes should he pay to get all these social programs funded? cococandy:There is already so much done with the taxes you already pay, Its why your roads get done and we are not driving on pothole ridden roads, Its what pays for your security in form of the policemen and military who keep us safe. The country has debts already so if you are saying it could be run more efficiently, I guess you will support the Dept of Govt Efficiency that would be led by Vivek and Elon We have Covered California AKA MediCal for people who can’t afford traditional health insurance or not qualified for Medicare/Medicaid. I’m not sure about other states but the ones where I lived in before California did not have the equivalent of this.Californians might be rich enough to absorb an extra 10% tax not American prosperity isn’t because we don’t pay taxes like other countries. On the contrary. We have extreme wage gaps.Top Federal tax bracket in America is 37%, Most of the other first world countries pay more than that. Some as high as 60%. Working and keeping most of your money is the number 1 incentive why most talents around the world want to live in America. Many people wont be happy to work and hand govt 60% of your income Gender based income inequality is a real problem. Unless we were present at every interview and witnessed how each employee arrived at their income level, the data showing that men were paid more than women for the same job supports that inequality pattern. We can’t chuck it up to men are better at negotiating. That’s why when republican law makers vote against bills that seek to rectify or at least get a better understanding of this issue, they make it clear they are a party against women’s wellbeing. You said you like to see data and work with data, I presented you with one that says some women don't negotiate as hard as men, You dismissed it. Is it that you only like stats that agree with your pre conceived ideas? |

raumdeuter: The top 10% do not pay 37% tax. They hire tax evaders to help them reduce their tax way below that rate. But if you think paying a fair share is "share your house and salary", then share your house and salary. I'm just asking for 2% tops from the top 10%, which likely excludes you anyway. In Nigeria, we'd be talking about the likes of Dangote and Tinubu, note. |

A raumdeuter, dismissing the pay gap as a result of women not negotiating as well as men is a disservice to women. That might have been applicable a decade or two decades ago. But recent studies show that women are standing up for themselves and negotiating in the workplace. Yet the results are clearly showing us that not negotiating wasn’t the problem all along because the problem persists. What we can do is to get to the root of the issue which is the reluctance of employers to pay women as well as men. As far as our tax dollars working for us, we don’t even have some of the 1st world infrastructure that other 1st world countries have. The taxes might be working but they are not working hard enough. 🤢🤮@ Elon and Vivek. Pls. If he wants to help curtail waste, he can start by giving up some of the free money he gets from American tax payers. He’s such a joke. 2 Likes 1 Share

feedthenation: I'm not sure if not as uncommon as it is in the US. There is popular Bobriski for one. Also, when I was Lagos last Christmas, we went to Everyday People which was at some beach club/lounge. There were some "women" buzzing/dancing around our table/cubana. As I looked closer, I realized they were actually guys. Was somewhat surprised since it was Lagos and they seemed very comfortable. I was also a little miffed (if I want someone dancing in front of my table it better be real women). So, yeah would like to see the prevalence in Lagos/Naij, but not sure if the responses would lead to accurate results. |

Elon keeps complaining about the population decline 🙄. In the same breath that they’re using to deny us maternity leave, they’re planning abortion bans and advocating for the ban of contraceptives. It’s almost as if the ultimate goal is a workplace that has less women and homes in which women are trapped because they’re financially destitute. MAGA indeed. IjeBos: Yes, just like I've mentioned that it is only a fraction of men commiting the larger percentage of crimes. One violent, sexual pervert/suicide bomber/mass shooter can wreck a recoiling disaster. A few trolls on NL have silenced or sent away many active women on here. How do you ensure that women in vulnerable spaces like care homes, rape/homeless shelters, prisons, or anywhere that requires them to be naked are protected from any rando just waltzing in and getting catered to, just because he claims he's a woman? Another point I made was also about the fact of -biology-. TWs would not be trans if they weren't (born) males. And I said all males, especially as strangers, pose a potential danger to most women (even if he's suppressing his T; especially when he has gone through puberty). This is not the same thing as saying that they are violent/dangerous in actuality. So I would not be less worried if a male-bodied person got close to my space in public, and smiled at me, all the while thinking himself a 'sis', just like me, in his head. You may see it as a few violent transwomen, I see it as continuing male violence against women, but now under the protected status of "trans." I do not dispute that women don't already face all forms of violence and discrimination from the general public, but 'self-IDing' will make it much more worse, because the regular perpetrators of such can do all claiming a marginalised status. And any crime against women will be treated on an individual basis, and not within the context of a structural issue. And have you ever heard of the term "social contagion?" The trans community might be a small percentage of people but the things they clamor for has implications for the larger percentage of people in society. The redefinition of languages and words and laws protecting sex-based rights. Medically transitioning children (treatments whose long-lasting effects have yet to be holistically documented), and even performing irreversible surgeries on some in some cases. https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-transyouth-data/ This link also shows you the spike in adolescents who identify as transgender. You can say the numbers are going up because there's an increasing level of societal acceptance for it, and a space for more people to explore their gender identities, but you will only be partly right. The numbers are increasing because there are kids who genuinely, erstwhile experienced dysphoria and are now coming out and there are kids being inundated with susceptible, subliminal messages of exploring their gender identities. It's a new 'cool'. Teenagers who should have grown up to be gays or lesbians now identify as the opposite sex... And then if a fully male-bodied person claims to be a woman, or to "feel like a female" on the inside, where does that leave people who are same-sex attracted? That is also the reason why homosexuality has now been redefined by them into "same-gender attraction." So two people with penìses in a relationship can call themselves lesbians, just because they identify as so, effectively reaffirming many misogynistic, straight men's belief that lesbians are just women who haven't "tasted" the right "dick." Beyond the transwomen who commit extremely violent crimes, there are others who are casually misogynistic and assaulting to women. www.terfisaslur.com https://sex-matters.org/about-us/what-we-are-up-against/intimidation-threats-and-violence-by-trans-rights-activists/ See this post below. This is uncannily parallel to what men do to women. In all the time I've been on social media, I have never seen women going into the DMs of a man to harass and threatened him if he has 'jam-talked'. Everyone will drag him on their TLs and that's it. He's forgotten the next day. But whenever a woman goes viral for saying something wrong or posting a sexualized picture, men will take it beyond her comment section to her DMs. https://x.com/sugabelly/status/1864357731206889625?t=dqsVRA0tcnzdtHOwrMVXFw&s=19 Trans language also interferes with accurate crime reporting. Demands women address their rapists as a "she." https://x.com/holyroodmandy/status/1839777389104247125?t=fbWxeoMBwnx9RAR5kzv3TA&s=19 https://x.com/JournalismSEEN/status/1807521659001192486?t=fEyjZTrtFUxpE4nTc2Bskg&s=19 https://x.com/JournalistJill/status/1686677415316045824?t=fEyjZTrtFUxpE4nTc2Bskg&s=19 And so so many more. I had a friend from church whose son tried to commit suicide 2 times because he felt uncomfortable with his sexuality and wanted to transition. The parents who have a lot of resources did everything they could before the 2nd suicide attempt (psychology, programs, etc). He still tried to commit suicide a 2nd time. The parents (very religious) finally relented while watching their kid in the hospital the 2nd time.. they just wanted their child alive. They are going to allow him to transition and have started using his/her specific pronouns. So this is decidedly a different issue. This is about gender dysphoria, and it's a real one that is consequential to the trans community. The point of women having the right to say no to anyone who isn't woman is another. My initial point has been on the older trans-identified males who suddenly think they are of a different gender, sex, at 36 or 56 y/o. You'd outrightly be called a bigot for stating that this man, this goliath right in the picture below is a man. Mind you, it happened in Nigeria o. At a women-only event. So that I'm talking about this is not me engaging in 'Afghanistanism' or whatever. But to address the very personal story you've shared- and I don't want to trivialize it in any way: that they've done everything they 'could' is not necessarily a failure on their part or on therapy... it is just the nature of mental illnesses. People who have suicidal ideations, and have even attempted suicide, still go on to want to try it again. For a number of reasons, and it is dysphoria in this case. It's a correlation/causation thing. 'Transitioning' might help relieve some, while not so much for others. But most pro-trans people are treating these procedures as an holy grail, hammering on affirmation as the only way to help. And mind you, gender dysphoria is a medical condition... but the whole conversation about transgenderism has been phrased as a "it's just who I am" or "how I was born" thing, as people who are just different from others... like is it all trans people who have gender dysphoria? Can someone be trans without having a mental health issue (dysphoria) or have transitioned? If yes, then what is the basis for their trans-ness? Being trans cannot at the same time be a matter of nature or innateness and a medical condition. Like nobody treat cancer or alopecia as some innate identity that should be validated or anything like that. If we want to talk about it as a medical condition, then maybe the prevailing conversation around it would have been different. There would also be no terms like "assigned male at birth." Pro-trans people would not be arguing about being born in the wrong body or that children as young as two can know they are trans. And I noticed you mentioned sexuality. If this is about a gay kid who hates being one, I'm sorry but what those parents would be doing to him would be conversion therapy as transitioning. if you meant gender dysphoria...then okay. That's one issue with the movement too. Its proponents obscure language and update term at will that you're never able to keep up with exactly what they are talking about. Why does gender, which they claim is a social construct, needs to be "treated" through biological changes? If you've never lived as the opposite sex before, how do you ascertain that what you're feeling like is what it's like to be the opposite sex? Wo, I have a lot to say on the matter and I feel like I've spoken too much. Let me just end here. You can live as how want, but: - Humans are a sexually dimorphic species - A man is an adult human male, and a woman vice versa, and it is impossible for one to become the other. These are black and white enough and it is not a question of subjective or psychology. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

The Assad regime has come to an end, and now a new struggle is likely to emerge as rebel factions will probably begin fighting among themselves for power. There are too many groups involved, and unfortunately, rather than cooperating and submitting to a government, these factions may resort to violence against one another. |

Magnoliaa: Honestly, I just don't care enough what other people do. As long as it is not affecting me or forcing me to accept things I don't want to. That is my beef with the promotion of pronouns etc. And you are still taking a very very small percentage of trans people and trying to make an argument as if they are a statistically larger percentage. And Julius Caesar was bisexual and homosexuality was accepted in Ancient Greece. I don't think it's a new concept. 2 Likes |

Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Magnoliaa(f): 10:53pm On Dec 08, 2024 |
IjeBos: So everything I said just flew over head. Got it. The lesbian app founder who is being sued in Australia for discrimination is of no consequence. As well as the women who are leaving lesbian-dating apps in droves. The women who have been sexually assaulted and physically attacked by TRAs is also of no significance. The 800+ medals that have been lost to trans athletes in women's sport is also a very minute number. The trans care ban case that was heard in the SCOTUS some days ago is not relevant. The people who have been fired from their jobs or doxxed for stating gender critical views... who cares? It doesn't matter if it's just one or two women it's affecting, so long as it doesn't affect you. Very manly of you so I'm not surprised. And Julius Caesar was bisexual and homosexuality was accepted in Ancient Greece. I don't think it's a new concept. That wasn't my point. If a man can become a woman, and a woman can become a man, then homosexuality, and even heterosexuality, as sexual orientations become 'fluid.' This is another part of the issue to me, not merely numbers. If you cannot understand the fact that the redefinition of sex into making an allowance for gender identity is concerning to everyone, I'm done interacting with you. Like tf? Most social issues and commentaries rarely, occasionally apply to the general population but that doesn't mean talking about them is needless. I- just have a good day. 1 Like |
