They have spoken.

"My people perish for lack of knowledge"

$20 for a domain name per year + around $1,200 for hosting(dedicated server) per year she can't spend.
am really sorry for her, but she shot herself on the foot.
If she had run her own .com domain, the worst Google can do her is
ban her from Adsense and delist her site from Google search.

She would have been able to pick herself up.
She didn't even have an office after over 7 years as a pro blogger.

Lesson to learn:
Never build your online business on a company like Google.
They can break your heart at anytime, no matter who you are or how popular your website is.

I suffered from them in the past, but now thank God, am back, bigger and better
running a business i have full control over.

Dinzelflash:
just to add, from what I know Cybersquatting is defined as a criminal act
that entails the illegal and unlawful holding
of a domain name in an unethical fashion.
Typically, Cyber-squatters, those who
engage in the act of Cybersquatting, do so
with the intent of bullying prospective
purchasers who require a domain name
into meeting the financial demands
expressed by the cyber-squatter. This is
done in lieu of a productive and ethical
commercial endeavor in which the domain
name owned is used for commercial value. the dude Mr aydee has been sued by Volkswagen for cybersquatting, he is also cybersquatting the domain name "lindaikeji.net". which is an offense tho..not saying that I'm in support of Linda's plagiarism but his hands ain't clean too.. #justsaying

If I may ask, is there any law that state that the name"Lindaikeji" must belong to one person?

Volkswagen will loose that case because that name has been in existence before the company was set up.

Normal law is quite different from the cyber ones. Nigeria is still new to that field.

Linda should learn from Seun the owner of Nairaland and get her own site.

Should it still be called plagiarism if she gives credit to the sources she's quoting from? Cos there are several of her posts I've read where she gives reference to the original sources, which most of the time are other big blogs and news websites. Cnn, tmz, BBC, etc all quote their sources when required. So I don't see the big deal. All I see is a desperate and pathetic guy who's trying to gain cheap publicity for himself and his sites I never even knew before now.

But me dont see anything spectacular in Linda's blog. I rely on Seun Nairaland than Linda.

Mybe if the Girl has been the low profile one, she would not have been in this mess.

Well, I wis her well and hope she gets over this as quick as possible.

These people stole just 12 pictures from Getty images, see what happened to them and how they got sued for $321,000. Linda stole over 1,000 images from this same company. Google initially deleted a few posts from Lindaikeji but deleted her blog when they realised she had stolen and plagiarised more than 10,000 times from Getty images, Mr Ayedun and SEVERAL people/organisations combined. So imagine what would happen if Getty images decide to sue her

She acknowledged she was guilty in her response on the day this news broke out and also said that Google gave her the chance to file a counterclaim. So OBVIOUSLY she was found guilty on a magnanimous scale HENCE reason she got deleted.

lindaikeji:
So something has been going on for the past couple of days that I haven't reacted to because I wanted to see it play out and see how far these people will go. They have gone far and it's now time to react...

... So he and his team started filling several reports, sending links of my blog posts and making claims to Google. Outrageous false claims. And because Google acts first before they contact the blog owner, they took down some posts and asked me to file a counter claim if I felt I had a right to re-publish those articles. Now that my blog is under Google review, these guys have started to spam it again...

...They want Google to shut it down. That is their aim. Will they succeed? I sincerely don't know...

...Now talking about copyright infringement, Mr Aye Dee feels that crediting source is not enough, that I have to write a written permission to the website owner. That's laughable at best. So if there's a breaking news on TMZ, I will first write to the editors and wait for the 2/3 days it will take them to reply me...that's if they even bother to.

I admit that I take content from other sites. Plenty of it sef...

The Lawyer Linda quoted also said:

Below is an article from lawyer and blogger Uduak Udouk of Africa Music Lawabout this guy and his cyber-squatting criminal activities
"According to a twitter handle owned by @MrAyeDee, celebrity blogger Linda Ikeji was accused of copyright infringement of his works. He reported these infringing activities to Google and what resulted was a take down of his articles/works on her site

Jeez its only in Nigeria people will blame their enemies or people witchhunting FFS Plagiarism is a serious offence in civilized nations, you can't just copy someone elses intellectual property without giving credit, its been emphasised by so many sensible posters on NL but some folks are still screaming blue murder.

In a country where people just copy and paste their assignments from the internet even their final year projects it shouldn't come as a suprise.

Can you now see why I call these folks stark illiterates stuck in the primeval times? Nigerians have been blaming the devil, and enemies since 10BC hence the country is stuck in the 15th century. Most of them don't even know that the internet is well regulated especially when you are commercialising it. And didn't Fareed Zakaria get suspended from CNN for plagiarism?

I'd say she is lucky she got the message early while still using a freebie on google. And google just had to throw her blog out, so as not to be liable in any lawsuit against her. Because apart from plagiarism, I read somewhere that the woman keeps stealing pictures from gettyimages without proper licence agreement. Oh well, she dodged a lawsuit that would have taken her life savings. She is a learner lol.

Perhaps she needs to ask bossip.com, nicolebitchie.com, mediatakeout etc. About how much they have paid thus far for all kinds lawsuits. And more time, they reference the source of their news, and give photo credits.

Anyway, she can learn the art of blogging and how not to break the internet dos and don't from Nicole Bitchie. And hopefully, she will use this as a learning process and stop crying foul everywhere, with these other primitive dunderheads. They make black folks look bad.

Stealing contents online is not different from vandalizing other people's cars and selling the parts in your shop.
Profitable but criminal.

Is that enough to shut down a blog?? Come on! African crab-in-a-barrel mentality. That's why it's not good for women especially to showcase their wealth/success. The moment you do, others will try to bring you down (and usually it's the male category, not even female rivals). I hope she gets back bigger and stronger!! (and I'm not even her fan nor do I even visit her blog but I respect her hustle).

If she plagiarized, she should pay a fine or something. Not shutting down her bread and butter!

plagiarize three times in a school essay, you are going to be kicked out of the school with immediate effect. When i was in nigeria, all these plagiarism thing weren't crime, but when i came to canada, it was God that i wasn't reported to the immigration to face deportation just because i plagiarize.

Na so i tell them say where i come from, plagiarism nor be big deal. The school authority confirmed it with different instructors who stated that most nigerian student they taught also did the same thing.

imo the blog was taken offline for other reasons besides these various excuses given.

nigeria's money is being tracked and seized all over the place, ISIS is up and running, and people have to cover their butts.

etc etc.

better to give the whole process another name while setting all the dominos in place and preparing the next set of workers.

I think it has to do with illiteracy, and being overly religious. It's always about the devil and enemies, even when they know they're in the wrong, and they have been in the wrong for a long time - till they got their just due.

As for me, Getty Images is a bit different. Such companies can sue for millions because of the loss they incur from stolen/plagiarised images used without permission or payment. As for the complainant in this case, he will get to earn a lighter fee I'm sure, if at all. Beside, Linda Ikeji must have lost untold sums from her blog going down even for a day/week or who knows how long. Like I said, I just want to encourage those in the same industry to learn from her mistakes and aim for originality.
