Greetings to everybody

please I have a very urgent question. Gurus in the house please help

I want to buy shares strictly for dividends like afripud but the closure date confuses me.

1)what is the exact closure 17, 18, 19 or 20?
2)if I buy on the 17th will I still be eligible to receive dividend?
3)If I buy on the 17th when will my name be on the register, that same day or the next day?

What make people make so much money in this market is bear, because after bear comes bull.

Why should I be afraid of bear. Bear offer a lot of opportunity for young millionaires.

I love bears because that is when I storm the market with hyper aggression; but this election bear is very unique so one must tread with caution. grin

2) YES, 17th is the qualification date (Note the difference in Qualification and Closure dates)
3) The register will be updated for trades concluded on the 17th. The register will not be updated for 18th, 19th and 20th.
4) YES, I wouldn't mind an online transfer grin

@kotlass thanks a lot I have told my secretary to expedite action on that online transfer!

1)But then what is the reason/usefulness for/of all the other dates (18,19,20) if 17 is the qualification date?
2) so if I buy on the 17th can I sell it on the 18th? when can I immediately sell it after I buy on the 17th?
3) please use another example like forte oil... to benefit from the dividend when should I start to buy and how soon can I sell it?

please explain this thing in secondary school mode cause I am still a bit confused

1) For reconciliatory purposes i.e The Registrars use these period to SORT the qualifying units for the corporate action.
The shareholders' register will not be updated during this period for trades executed. The account of the seller and buyer remains the same during this period (as far as the registrar is concerned). CSCS Plc has a record of trades so no biggie. Data is intact. cool
2)YES, you can sell on the 18th. As soon as the market opens on the next trading day (could be a scramble to sell though, as price plunges).
3)Closure dates for Forte Oil's corporate action are 1st April - 7th April, 2015. You can start buying now until 2:30pm on the 31st of March and you can sell when the market opens 1st of April (Pls confirm dates for FO's corporate action).

I hope you understand that my responses are in answer to your questions and not to affirm your investment strategy/decisions.

I never get alert o. That your secretary ehn! grin

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Chibuking81(m): 3:32pm On Mar 16, 2015
Dividend strategies, hope all these will continue after election.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Chibuking81(m): 3:39pm On Mar 16, 2015
All these dividend announcement should have come after election to help push the market to the northern pole. Dividend in the midst of fear and bear, that mean the force to bring the bull back will be swallow by the presence of bear, it is better the remaining companies postpone their announcement till after election to bring the bull back soon after election.
