buzibiza: I flew Qatar. Instead of flying to a Fort Laud why not stop at Miami international Airport ... It might be cheaper! But you also have to consider how to find your way to Fort Laud. Miami to fort laud is like from CMS to Ojuelegba. |

[quote author=Mystiqme post=35637354] Overall undergrad CGPA cut-off: 2.5 GPA for the last 60 credits, that is, your final 3-4 semesters in school: 3.0. Takes account for the possibility that you might have started slowly, but showed improvements in your latter years of schooling. [u/quote] you are full of knowledge, you should consider a lecturing job. I fully understand now. Thanks |

Pls, I want to ask. I learnt on this forum that after Masters programme, one will do OPT which will keep one in the US for at least another 2 years, but after the OPT, what happens ? Will they expect someone to return back to Nigeria ? Or can someone still remain legally in the Usa ? Secondly, what's the possibility that someone can get a greencard after the masters in the US Thanks 1 Like |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by Chemical2(m): 9:53pm On Jul 08, 2015 |
adewoleray: Yes, If your course is designated as STEM you can have OPT (including extension) for 29 months, after which you will need sponsorship by your company. That work authorization is called H1B. Not all company is willing to sponsor H1B and you cannot sponsor yourself. Initial H1B is valid for 3 years and can be renewed for another 3 years. Hope that helps As regards greencard after your masters you can sponsor yourself through the National Interest Waiver programme. You must have published a good number of papers in respected journals and must show that you are pioneering a novel research that has not been done before or you get a company to sponsor your greencard. You can also get a greencard by getting married to a citizen. 3 Likes |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by biikeys(m): 10:05pm On Jul 08, 2015 |
adewoleray: There is an employer route to getting a Green card, but takes a while. Basically after studies, you look for a job and start your OPT-1 year(+extension for STEM grads). During that time your employer must start your H-1B filing and you need to be selected in the lottery(You have a better chance if you completed your MS or PhD),; or you need to look for another company to file for you. H1B is valid for 3 years after which they can extend for another 3. During that time, your employer has to start your Employer-Based(EB) Green card; or you need to look for a company willing to sponsor you. There are other ways to remain in the US legally if things don't work as I explained, one of which is going back to school( for another MS or a PhD) and remaining on F-1 status, among other possibilities. 2 Likes |

Secondly, going back to P.hD or another masters, will the F1 visa be applied for again in Nigeria, or right there in the US |

My interview happened on Monday 6.30am, but I have been busy reason for the delayed transcript. This forum thread has been fantastic and does 50% of the work needed for people to get their visa. The selfless service of gurus and members cannot be ignored. Sometimes their hard or straight talks often cause commotion , but its better they tell us the reality and what is possible than people chasing shadows . bbdd (he packaged and inspired me) and slimmy are often attacked for their straight talks, but these two guys were instrumental to getting my visa. Also, the tendency of people looking for the easiest way out of everything and not doing the necessary diligent home work are the major reasons for many denials. If advice given is followed and tailored to one’s application, then I see no reason why people can’t pick up their visas easily. The job of the VO is to look for reasons to deny people( VOs are doing their jobs), but our job is to not give the VO the chance, and block every loophole possible in our applications and during interviews by preparing for all possible questions. I believe the forum has helped immensely. The visa journey is not smooth, but achievable . VO: morning ME: morning VO: what school are you heading to? ME: University of Iowa Vo: what program are you going for there? Me: PhD in Health Informatics. VO: How did you get to know about the school ? ME: I did extensive research about schools offering PhD in Health informatics using professional websites like American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) , Health Informatics Forum and other search engines and streamlined programs in clinical informatics and health data analytics. This is in line with my research (…cut ) ( my advice every course has a professional website. Instead of people saying usnews, Princeton etc , that VOs keep hearing daily and I consider cliché. Mention the American professional websites of the course you want to study) VO: why university of Iowa Me: I have a Master’s degree in health informatics and the school is among the top schools offering training in the field of Health informatics. It has an excellent program in health data analytics. VO: you have a masters degree? Me: Yes I have a master’s degree in Health informatics from the University of Leeds Vo : Health informatics and what’s that about? Me: Health informatics is the use of information technology to leverage the delivery of health with the aim of improving the safety, quality and efficiency of heath service delivery..(cut)\ Vo: who is sponsoring you? Me. The school is my sponsor. I am on full funding as stated on the i20. It covers.. tuition…(cut) Vo : Do you have any other document that shows the breakdown of your scholarship other than i20. Me: I gladly gave her my admission letter and I started smiling She had no choice too , but also smiled with the good new 8 Likes |

alfonso36: Well more than 2 people on this thread who are 26 years got their visa, so dont be panic, all you need to do is to work on the gap between the time you left high school.. If you can get that done you are getting the visa by God's grace. Dunno how much you will need for preparation but have more than 200k if i am not wrong. SAT is combination of Maths, Critical Reading and Essay but the form is not in Nigeria now but registration is out |

Hahahaha... Oga Slimmy05, it's not easy o. I remember taking Greyhound from Philly to Madison, WI. The whole journey was approximately 30 hours. We changed bus like 4 times. At some of their terminal, we waited for up to 2 hours. As per se the guy just dey enter states, e no go too make sense to embark on that journey by road. slimmy05: |
