I have a Hp 650 laptop, I gave a friend who needed it.. He used it and drained the battery till it went off itself.
When I collected it.. I tried charging it for several hours but it's not charging.. It shows a power cord connected and shows "plugged in, not charging" with a white notification light at the side instead of a orange light.. Could it be that the battery has spoilt or what?

Try this, remove the battery from the laptop, then press the power button down for 10 seconds, now reconnect the battery and plug in your power adapter to charge

There are many cause of this problem but two major ones to address in your case first:

1) Your battery cells and connectors are bad. Try it with another battery to see if you are still having the same problem and brush the contacts for your battery and laptop to clear it of debris .

2) Your motherboard has malfunctioned. See a tech to fix it for you.

it could be that the battery is bad. Use a software like batterycare from batterycare dot net to see the info about your battery

all4naija thanks for the other day. Turns out the hdd was the culprit. Luckily i had a spare hdd lying around. Now i'm back on windows 10.

Anyways, do u know how to create a new "Recovery Drive". So i can use it to reset the new hdd just in case of future crashes. I've tried to create o e. But its not working out for me

gud eveing all.my hp laptop stopped charging and i tink i may hav caused it.initially weneva i want 2 charge my laptop,i wud hav to adjust d mouth of d charger 4 it to charge.den today i got anoda mouth from anoda hp charger,cut it and den joined wit it mine .at first it seemed i joined it wrongly as it didnt supply light 2 d laptop's charging port.so i switched d wires and it den supplied light but cudnt charge.i tot may b dey didnt match so i rejoined my previous mouth and den plugged it, d same tin i.e it supplied light at d charging port bt was not charging too.i was shocked.tinking d battery cud b d problem,i removed it,plugged d charger,it supplied light,i tried booting d laptop witout a battery bt it cudnt switch on.pls sombody shud help wit wot 2 do
