Ideye, Nwakaeme On Target In Cup Wins

By James Agberebi:

Ideye scored in the 13th and 41st minute, to give Olympiakos a 2-0 lead.

Asteras Tripolis will host the reverse fixture which is billed for Wednesday 2.

In the Israeli Cup, Anthony Nwakaeme was on target for Hapoel Be'er Sheva, who defeated Maccabi Petah Tikva 2-1.

Nwakaeme opened the scoring in the 13th minute.
Omer Danino equalised for Maccabi Petah Tikva on 26 minutes but Ben Sahar restored Hapoel Be'er Sheva's lead two minutes later.

In England, youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho, was an unused substitute for Manchester City, as they beat Everton 3-1 in the return leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final.

Aggreh: I still Can’t Believe We’re Out Of 2016 CHAN

By Adeboye Amosu & David Meshioye in Kigali:
Home-based Super Eagles winger, Prince Aggreh is yet to recover from the team's shocking ouster from the African Nations Championship, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Eagles were denied a place in the last-eight of the competition by Guinea who beat them 2-1 in their last Group C game at the Umuganda Stadium on Tuesday.

Aggreh, who played in all three of the Super Eagles games in the competition told Completesportsnigeria.com that he and his teammates are yet to come to terms with their exit from the competition.

"We still can't believe we are out of the competition," the Sunshine Stars player told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"Everything started well for us in the competition, but we failed at a very crucial
stage.

"Looking back now, maybe we could have done things differently, but there is nothing we can do to remedy the situation."

Yes, you guys could have done things differently. When does Nigeria go defensive in a game against Guinea? What were you guys thinking? Maybe it was the coach's order.

You guys did not play with the same mindset as you did against Niger. You guys came out to beat Niger. That was why there was so much offsides.

CHAN 2016: Oliseh under pressure to quit Eagles

BY JOE APU
SUPER Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has said he is under pressure to quit Nigeria coaching job following the dismal performance of the team at the African Nations championship in Rwanda.

Oliseh, according to rip ples.com.ng yesterday revealed that he was receiving pressure from friends and family to quit the job and focus on his health, stressing that he hoped to meet and discuss with his family before taking his final decision.

The Eagles defeated Niger 4-I in their opening game, managed a 1-1 with Tunisia before losing 1-0 to Guinea to crash out of the competition.

Meanwhile, his foreign based players had threatened to boycott Nigeria’s next match against Egypt in March.

The Eagles will battle Egypt in a double header in the 2017 Nations Cup qualifier billed for March but the precarious position the team found itself made the quest for the ticket more difficult.

“The players are very angry that their last match bonuses have not been paid since their last game against Swaziland on November 17, 2015 and have promised not to show up for subsequent matches,” an official of the team informed Ripples Nigeria.

It would be recalled that the CHAN Eagles who just crashed out of the African Nations Championship also lamented the non-payment of match bonus and camp allowance since December. After beating Niger 4-1 in their opening game, the League Management Company (LMC), operators of the Nigeria Professional Football League handed a cash gift of $10 000 to the 23 players and officials in Kigali.

However, Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye when contacted in Rwanda said there was no truth in the story. “There’s no truth in that story. Please discountenance it. How can anyone be spreading such rumour when Coach Oliseh is already working out plans for the match against Egypt. That online story is unrealiable.”

…He didn’t know the players he took to Rwanda – Cooreman

BY EMMA NJOKU
MAURICECooreman has attributed the early exit of the Home-based Super Eagles at the ongoing Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda due to Sunday Oliseh’s poor knowledge of the domestic league and the players he took to the tournament.

Cooreman, who has won the Nigerian professional league title and the Federation Cup twice each with four different clubs, since his coaching career in the country spanning over 17 years, also faulted the Super Eagles’ gaffer for leaving striker Chisom Chikatara on the bench until the second half in Tuesday’s match against Guinea.

He said: “It’s so sad for Nigeria to exit from the CHAN tournament so early. I think the problem had to do with Sunday Oliseh’s poor knowledge of the Nigerian domestic league.

Leicester would be making a statement of intent if they secure Ahmed Musa signing

The Nigeria skipper has been linked with a big-money move to LeicesterCity.

According to a recent report from the Times, Leicester City want to sign CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa during the January transfer window, and if the Foxes pull off that deal it will be a huge statement of intent both for the rest of this campaign and for the seasons to come.

For those unfamiliar with the Nigeria international he is one of the fastest, most exciting players in European football right now and if he plays anywhere near his potential he will be a huge hit at the King Power Stadium.

The Times claims CSKA want £19million for the player while Leicester have initially offered £14million, but it is being suggested that Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri hopes to bridge the gap to get a deal over the line.

At just 23 and with talent in abundance, Musa would represent considerable value for money.
Equally comfortable as a centre forward, a secondary striker or a winger (on either flank) Musa is lightning quick and he regularly sets up devastating counter-attacks for both club and country.

He also has experience of playing against Premier League opposition, terrifying Manchester United’s defenders over two matches in the Champions League earlier this season.

Whether brought off the bench to pressurise tired defences or starting in an array of positions Musa is the real deal, and if Leicester can secure his signature it will be a sign they plan to remain challenging at the top of the table for some time yet.

Would you like to see Musa sign for the Foxes?

Report: Manchester United to rival Leicester City for CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa

The Nigerian international is attracting plenty of suitors.

LeicesterCity have been heavily linked with a move for CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musathis week.

The Nigerian forward was, according to the BBC, the subject of a £15.1 million bid from Leicester which was rejected earlier in the week.

A fee in the region of £18.9 million has been mooted and the player is said to be keen on a move.

The Foxes are looking to bring in striking reinforcements to bolster their shock title fight and the 23-year-old would appear to be at the top of their list.

But it seems they now have massive competition.
It was first reported in Nigeria yesterday, including by Vanguard News, that Manchester United were also keen on the player.

Now Sky Sports are also reporting that United are keen on rivalling Leicester for the player.

Manchester United have been poor in recent weeks and lack a spark up front in what has been a run of fairly uninspiring performances.

Musa is the sort of explosive player they need to help bring some excitement back to the club.

It seems that these two Premier Leagueclubs might have a scrap on their hands.

Will United get their hands on Musa?

Why Arsenal must start Iwobi against Burnley

Written by: Josh Challies

Ahead of Arsenal's FA Cup clash with Burnley this weekend, Jonathan Kaney believes that Nigerian international Alex Iwobi should be handed a key-role.

Our injury crisis has put a real strain on our forwards this season but one player who has been unlucky not manage to break into the first-team and get a proper chance is talented prospect Alex Iwobi.

The 19-year-old Nigeria international has a bright future ahead of him and is highly-rated at the club but his opportunities to play have suffered greatly as a result of the early exit in the League Cup to Sheffield Wednesday.

He was unlucky in that game to be part of a side full of youngsters and squad players low on confidence. It resulted in a disjointed and limp performance, where it was tough for individuals to shine.

That game definitely set him back a bit but his star performance in the number 10 role against Sunderland in the last round of the FA Cup reminded fans exactly how good he is and Arsene Wenger would definitely have taken note of his assured and direct performance that night.

While Burnley sit third in the Championship and will be no push overs, this game is a great opportunity to give him some more game time and cast another eye over him in the first team.

It's a gamble for Arsene to put Iwobi in as we progress in the tournament and look for a hat-trick of FA Cup wins but with us challenging for the title and the Champions League, realistically this is the only game against lower league opposition that he can come in and get a chance.

He may well go out on loan before the end of the window or in the summer, but one thing is for sure, we definitely have some player on our hands and Gooners want to see more of him, particularly surrounded against other star players and not just youngsters.

CHAN 2016: Ikpeba slams Oliseh over Eagles’ exit comments

Tunde Eludini

Former Nigerian international, Victor Ikpeba, has faulted his former teammate and current coach of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh’s claim that his team’s early ouster from the ongoing African Nations Championships was largely caused by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Speaking on Brila FM’s Sports Machine programme, Thursday, Ikpeba said rather than trading blames, Oliseh should have gone the extra mile to see that his team succeeded in Rwanda instead of blaming the NFF for his woes.

“It’s unfortunate to hear the comments from Oliseh and some of the players, on issues of motivation. I think the NFF has done a good job, they took the team to Jo’burg (Pretoria) for preparation before the tournament,” Ikpeba stated.

The former African Footballer of the year argued that the financial crises plaguing the NFF was well known to everybody and regardless of that challenge, the Golden Eaglets and the U-23 team both went out of their way to win laurels in the competition they were entered for.

”We all know he Federation has financial issues, so, instead of complaining about motivation, they should take an example from the U-17 and U-23. They had financial problems yet won the tournaments; we shouldn’t forget that Siasia’s mother was kidnapped,” Ikpeba said.

Going forward, Ikpeba advised Oliseh to promptly shift focus on planning ahead for the 2017 Afcon qualifiers against Egypt rather than playing the blame game over the debacle in Rwanda.

”Our coaches should think about what they can do for their country first. It is not as if Oliseh was condemned to win the CHAN, so even if the team have not advance to the next stage, he should be thinking about the Egypt Afcon ties which is very important.

”When we won the Olympics in 1996 we had financial problems, sometimes we should get behind this problems and be focused and do the job for Nigeria,” Ikpeba concluded.

Among other things, Oliseh claimed that the Eagles suffered malnutrition during the second phase of preparation for CHAN 2016 in South Africa but for his intervention.

The Eagles gaffer who joined the team in Pretoria and Oliseh said that the players were fed poorly and he had to support the team with “almost $4000” of his personal finances.

Oliseh described the situation as unbearable adding that despite the promises made by officials of the football body and the sports ministry, the team never got any.

Arteta Hails Iwobi’s Progress, Demands More Hard Work

Arsenal captain, Mikel Arteta, has hailed the emergence of Arsenal teenager Alex Iwobi though the Spaniard believes the young Nigeria international needs to still improve on his game.

The 19-year-old who has been capped by Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has become a permanent fixture on the Gunners’ first-team bench in recent weeks, earning a place in 10 of the last 11 match-day squads, and making seven appearances in total.

Iwobi who on Thursday claimed to be working hard on his game in a bid to be better than his uncle and former Bolton Wanderers and Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, can play on either flank, as a centre-forward or in central midfield and is in line to start Arsenal’s FA Cup fourth round match against Burnley at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, at 4pm Nigerian time.

Arteta, who could also be involved this weekend, believes the Nigerian-born teenager need to fine-tune his talents to guarantee a career at the highest level.

“Iwobi has been doing really well for us lately,”Standard.co.uk quotes Arteta as saying. “I played with him in the Under-21s recently and I was surprised he could play in central midfield as well.

“He is versatile and that is a massive attribute because forwards don’t normally have that 360 degree vision you need in midfield. Alex is capable of reading the game well, understanding his positioning and his body shape when he plays.

"Technically, he is a brilliant player, he works hard, though sometimes being versatile can also work against you in the future because you want consistency in one position. At the moment though, he is a very good team player.

Arteta points to the confidence and maturity noticeable in the game of the Nigerian of late, especially in the game against Stoke City as a reminder of what is yet to be seen of the youngster.

“You can see the change in his confidence after being given some minutes in the first team. The Stoke game was a good example of that. He came on and had an impact on the game straight away.

"His decision-making was excellent and the game didn’t run quicker than him. To do that against a tough team in a difficult atmosphere tells you he is improving and moving forwards and it is important for his development," Arteta posited.

Rwandan Fans Lament Home Eagles’ Early CHAN Exit

By Adeboye Amosu and David Meshioye in Kigali:
Soccer fans in Rwanda are still in shock following the home-based Super Eagles exit from the African Nations Championship, reports Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

The Eagles who came third at the last edition of the African Nations Championship in South Africa failed to make it beyond the group stage in Rwanda after going down to a 1-0 defeat to Guinea in their last group game on Tuesday.

And the majority of the local fans are sad to see their darling team exit the competition so early.
“It’s sad that I won’t see my beloved Chikatara in the competition again,” Elvis Milanbe, a proud supporter of Sunday Oliseh’s charges, told Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

“I love the Nigerian team and I was hoping that they would play Rwanda in the final,” Clarisse Averio, a business in the Kivoyo area of Kigali also re echoed Elvis thought.

“Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria, my darling team after the Amavubi. I can’t still believe they lost the game against Guinea.

“You could see that majority of Rwandan fans love the Super Eagles and it’s disappointing they are out of the competition,” another fan added.

By Adeboye Amosu & David Meshioye in Kigali:
Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh did not travel with the rest of the team as they head back to Nigeria on Friday after their shocking exit from the African Nations Championship, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Completesportsnigeria.com can report that the former Juventus of Italy midfielder will travel to Belgium on Friday where he is expected to have a medical check-up next week.

NFF Query Oliseh, Refute Claims He Spent $4k On Players

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
Nigeria Football Federation have refuted reports quoting coach Sunday Oliseh that he spent his personal money to the tune of $4,000 to feed players of the Super Eagles in their training in Pretoria, South Africa.

Comple tesportsnigeria.com reports that the NFF has also wired Oliseh a query to explain why the team crashed out early from the African Nations Championship in the first round and why he chose to embarrass his employers with his comments after the loss to Guinea.

Oliseh had blamed lack of motivation for the Super Eagles exit in the first round of the on going African Nations Championship in Rwanda and that he spent his money to feed the players before they flew to Kigali from South Africa.

But General Secretary of NFF, Dr. Sanusi Mohammed, in reaction said: “It is not true that Oliseh spent his hard earned $4,000 to feed the team in their Pretoria camp before CHAN. We are not aware of that.

“We paid for their camping at the South African High Performance training centre in Pretoria and this also covered lodging and feeding for the two weeks the team spent there. We had no report from the centre of not feeding them properly, so how did he spend his money to feed the team?”

He expressed disappointment with Oliseh for making careless comments, adding that it is true the federatIon is facing financial difficulties but that it had not reached the stage where the coach is left to feed the players with his money.

Hits and Misses – Goal rates Sunday Oliseh’s players after dismal CHAN 2016

Sunday Oliseh was not part of the early preparations ahead of the CHAN due to illness. His assistants took charge of the camp in Abuja but he was ultimately in charge of picking match day squads. Goal examines the performances of the players during their short-lived campaign

Hit - Ikechukwu Ezenwa – The Sunshine Stars goalkeeper had a non-too shabby tournament where he conceded three goals in three matches. While many expected him to be named captain, Sunday Oliseh chose differently but he kept his head and led from the back as he ensured Nigeria didn’t concede more than they did even though they failed to get through the group stages – one of the positives from the CHAN squad.

Miss - Paul Onobi – The reputation of the Sunshine Stars man preceded him from the Afcon qualifier against Swaziland in Port Harcourt. However, whether it was stage fright or mental block, Paul Onobi was hardly as dominant as we had expected him to be. Tough to see him return to the side or starting ahead of John Obi Mikel against Egypt.

Hit - Chisom Chikatara – Chisom Chikatara went to the CHAN on the back of his 14 goals in the NPFL last season and showed that he is a player with a promising future. The striker scored a hat trick in 32 minutes after he was brought on against Niger. He also added one more to his tally against Tunisia but injury and transfer distractions stopped him from starting the last game.

Miss - Tunde Adeniji – Another Sunshine Stars player who failed to live up to their high billings following his impressive haul of 16 goals in the NPFL last season. Tunde Adeniji choked under the spotlight, his positioning was poor and he failed to physically match the Guineans. His assist for the team’s first goal was his solo high point. Maybe he needs time to grow into a bold finisher.

Hit - Osas Okoro – He scored Nigeria’s first goal in the tournament and created assists for Chikatara as well. But Okoro was often times too individually-minded, trying to take on too many defenders, thereby getting tackled. The Enugu Rangers man had an above average tournament.

Miss - Matthew Etim – The full back was solid many times but ended up being unable to support the forwards during the bulk of the tournament. Matthew Etim was too cautious to a fault which did not help the attack when needed, especially in games against Tunisia and Guinea.

Hit - Ifeanyi Matthew – Perhaps Ifeanyi Matthew’s full potential has not yet been released but he was one of a handful of shining lights for the Super Eagles in Rwanda. He made up for his partner Paul Onobi’s shortcomings by pulling the strings.

Miss - Bartholomew Ibenegbu – Warri Wolves man Barth Ibenegbu was one of the most experienced players in the Nigeria squad. However, he didn’t make this count in Rwanda as he lost his starting position to Muhammed in the first game. A cameo apprearance against Tunisia did not help either.

Hit - Usman Muhammed – One of the few players to come into the team with previous tournament experience after winning the Caf U23 Africa Cup of Nations with the Dream Team in December, Usman Muhammed was the fulcrum of Nigeria’s creative enterprise. Since coming on in place of Bath Ibenegbu in the first game, the Taraba FC man did not look back until injury curtailed him in the final game.

Miss - Prince Aggreh – One of the Sunshine Stars men who did not really impress at the tournament, Prince Aggreh looked like a passerby at most games. When he was not in inspired form, he looked like a pedestrian and one wondered why he was kept on. His two assists in the first game were his tournament highlight. But he could have done better.

Hit - Austin Obaroakpo – Obaroakpo gave assured performances during his two matches with the CHAN Eagles. After a shaky start against Tunisia, he settled down well and held his own against the marauding Akaichi.

Miss - Jamiu Alimi – Shaky throughout and failed to bring his experience to count. The former Ukraine-based defender of Shooting Stars earned an early yellow card against Niger and was hauled off by the coach due to his unsteady feet. He started the last game but could not reassure us with his late decision making.

Gbadebo disappointed with Nigeria CHAN exit

The 19-year-old defender has expressed his frustration at the Super Eagles’ exit from the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda

Nigeria’s Samson Gbadedo has voiced his disappointment at his side’s humiliating exit from the 2016 African Nations Championship.

A 1-0 defeat to Guinea ensured the Super Eagles bowed out of the competition despite needing a draw to qualify for the quarter final.

The former Lobi Stars defender who missed the team’s training camp in South Africa owing to visa issues said his expectation was high on Nigeria’s chances of reaching the final.

"I was disappointed with the sudden way everything turned out in the loss and elimination from the championship courtesy of the defeat to Guinea,” Gbadebo told Supersport.com.

“I was more disappointed with myself because I never got the opportunity to play in the championship. Perhaps the opportunity to play may have come afterall if we had continued in the championship but now it’s over.

“However, I still feel a sense of satisfaction with the rare opportunity to be part and parcel of the Chan Party.”

Gbadebo said that he had believed his team would play in the final but they could not survive the Guinea game in which a draw would have been enough.

Broke NFF to hire national coaches on part-time

Eagles Coach Oliseh (middle) flanked by his assistants

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will now engage assistant coaches of the various national teams on part-time basis so as to lessen the financial burden the salaries of the coaches have caused them.

A top official disclosed: “The assistant coaches will now be on part time, strictly for when there is a tournament concerning their respective teams.

“They will therefore free to work with the clubs when they are now with the national teams.

“We have to be realistic, we have been paying many people for many years without doing anything and the financial obligation caused by just salaries of the coaches is just too huge.

“There is one of the Eagles assistant coaches who has insisted he is owed over 18 million Naira from salaries and what have you over the years.”

It was also revealed that one of the Eagles assistant coach has not been paid for the past nine months.

The NFF have already decided that developmental teams from U17 downwards will no longer be entitled to match bonuses as they save on costs.

AFCON 2017: Egypt step up for Nigeria double header

Egypt's Head Coach Hector Cuper

Egypt have stepped up their preparations for crunch AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Nigeria in March, as manager Hector Cuper has lined up friendlies for the home-based players against Jordan and Libya on Wednesday and Friday.

Leading Group G on six points following two easy wins over Tanzania and Chad last year, Egypt will be looking to further enhance their chances of reaching the Nations Cup for the first time since 2010, when they meet Nigeria, their main challengers in the group.

Egypt's one-week training camp in the Upper Egyptian city of Aswan looks to be an integral part of Cuper's preparations, where his side will play Jordan and Libya.

"We chose to play against Jordan and Libya to instill a winning mentality among the players in all games, whether official or friendly matches," the Argentine coach said in a television interview.

"We also want to experiment with some new faces to act as back-ups for our regular players."

The ex-Valencia boss had selected a total of 32 players for the two games, with Cairo giants Ahly and Zamalek constituting the major bulk – with 10 players called upon from each club.

The entire Ahly and Zamalek backlines were included, with Sabri Rahil, Hamada Tolba, Ali Gabr, Ahmed Dwidar, Ahmed Hegazy, Ramy Rabia, Omar Gaber and Mohamed Hani all making the cut.

Egypt's top two clubs also shared their attacking departments in the national team's roster, with Ramadan Sobhi, Moemen Zakareya, Abdallah El-Said, Amr Gamal, Ayman Hefni, Mahmoud Kahraba, Mostafa Fathi and Bassem Morsi all present.

Similarly, Ahly and Zamalek midfield Hossam Ghaly and Tarek Hamed were both named, before ENPPI's Salah Soliman replaced the latter after he was injured in a 1-1 league draw with Smouha. anchors

Record seven-time African champions Egypt resume their 2017 CAN qualifying campaign by visiting Nigeria on March 23 before hosting the Super Eagles five days later.

Uzochukwu explains why he dumped Russian club

Uzochukwu in action in Russia

Nigeria international Izunna Uzochukwu has revealed why he dumped Russian club Amkar Perm for Danish side OB Odense.

The ex-Midtjylland of Denmark forward has signed a-three-and-half-year deal with OB Odense.

"I left Amkar because of some financial reason and some football reasons,” he said.

“I was not happy with the way they do things there. I got good playing time with 11 games out of 18 games for the first round, in fact I should have played more games but for injury and national team duties. So I wasn't happy with the situation, it was better for me to leave.

"Happiness matters a lot while one makes the money. I love my job and I need an environment where I will be happy doing it. Imagine a situation whereby salary is not been paid as at when due, like two or three months of work no pay.

"They don't stick to the agreement signed so I needed to move."

Oliseh right man for Nigeria backs 'Jay Jay' Okocha

Okocha backs Oliseh

Sunday Oliseh is the right man to rebuild Nigeria for the challenges ahead despite the country’s shock ouster from CHAN 2016, according to former Eagles skipper Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha.

Nigeria failed to reach the knockout rounds of the CHAN in Rwanda after thy lost 1-0 to Guinea on Tuesday.

Oliseh has come under heavy fire since that exit with many questioning his capacity to lead Nigeria to glory.

However, ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has argued the CHAN should not be used to judge Oliseh as he remains the right man to steer the Super Eagles where they rightly belong at the top of the football tree.

“Oliseh is the right man to take us to where we want to be, he’s the right man for the job,” insisted Okocha.

“We cannot use the CHAN to judge him.

“Rather we should encourage and support him.”

Oliseh raises alarm… My life in danger

BY JOE APU

The Super Eagles to the CHAN 2016 in Rwanda returned to Nigeria last night but without the team’s helmsman Sunday Oliseh who returned to his base in Belgium.

His decision not to return home according to the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) is to enable him continue with treatment for the flu he has been battling with since last year.

However Oliseh’s decision not to return with the team is beginning to raise questions on why he is afraid of home.

Very dependable sources informed Daily Sunsport that the former Super Eagles defender and captain confessed that he is afraid for his life. Our source hinted that Oliseh had confided in a close associate that some people are after his life in Nigeria and is beginning to think twice about his health.

“Oliseh no longer feels safe being in Nigeria. Recall that all through the team’s camping for CHAN 2016 in Abuja, he refused to show up but was the first to hit South Africa for the second phase of camping in Pretoria. After his team lost out of CHAN, he left for Belgium on the excuse that he had to go and continue treatment for his flu. That action speaks volumes about his fears.”

Reacting to the allegation that Oliseh’s life is in danger, NFF spokeman, Ademola Olajire said there is no truth about the rumour.

“Did Oliseh not grow up here in Nigeria, so why would he be afraid of anyone in Nigeria? Agreed that Nigerians are very passionate about football and would castigate any coach that does not produce results but that is not enough for anyone to insinuate that his life is in danger. The reason for his travelling back to Belgium is to continue with his treatment for the flu,” Olajire stated.

It is recalled that coach Sunday Oliseh was flown out to Belgium to see his personal physician as a result of his deteriorating health condition on October 25, 2015.

A close source to the coach at that time was quoted as saying: “As I speak with you now Oliseh has left the Port Harcourt camp of the Super Eagles and has been hurriedly flown to Belgium via Lufthansa. Oliseh’s health condition has really worsened.

“I have never seen Oliseh in this very worrisome health situation like this since about three decades that I have been close to him. I am praying fervently to Almighty God to save him and give him speedy recovery.”

Arsenal star explains why ‘unusual’ starlet will shine ahead of Burnley tie

Arsenal's Alex Iwobi (John Walton/PA Wire)

Alex Iwobi has caught the eye of Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta who says the Nigerian’s versatility will make him a great asset for the Gunners.
The 19-year-old nephew of Jay-Jay Okocha has been a regular in matchday squads as an injury-hit Arsenal squad deals with a busy fixture schedules.

Arsene Wenger gave him the nod against Sunderland in the FA Cup third round before sending him on in the second half of the 0-0 draw with Stoke. And Iwobi is likely to be involved again when Arsenal welcome Burnley on Saturday afternoon and Arteta is excited about that the attacker offers.

“You can see the change in his confidence after being given some minutes in the first team,” he wrote in Arsenal’s matchday programme.

“The Stoke game was a good example of that. He came on and had an impact straight away. His decision-making was excellent and the game didn’t run quicker than him.

“I was surprised he could play in central midfield as well. He is versatile and that’s a massive attribute because forwards don’t normally have that 360 vision that you need in midfield.

“Alex is capable of reading the game well, understanding his positioning and his body shape when he plays.

“That’s fairly unusual for a player who plays on the wing or up front. That will be important for his development.”

Arsenal welcome Sean Dyche’s men having not lost an FA Cup tie since a shock 1-0 defeat to Blackburn at the Emirates back in September 2013

Liverpool joins Manchester United in race for Nigerian Striker
Biyi Akangbe

Liverpool have joined Leicester City and Manchester United in the scramble for the signature of CSKA Moscow attacker Ahmed Musa.

Bold.dk, via Sky Sports, has claimed that The Reds manager Jürgen Klopp wants to strengthen his attack in the January transfer window and has opened talks with a representative of the Super Eagles striker.

Ahmed Musa, an offensive all-rounder, is also on the radar of Everton, with the Toffees sending scouts to run the rule over him earlier this season.

Any move for the 23-year-old would require a fee in the region of 19 million pounds.

In 195 appearances for the European teams he has represented, the former Kano Pillars sensation has been involved in 94 goals.

We all wish him quick recovery.
He can still take us to the top if he learns from his mistakes very fast. It's becoming so obvious that inexperience is Coach Sunday Oliseh's enemy.

It was painful but we needed to come back so that the tournament favourites could continue.

Unless we dig deep within us to find out what are the causes of our Super Eagles poor run of form, we may never make any head way.

I was Live on a sports program on radio this morning. And the topic of discuss was related to Nigeria's chances against Egypt in Cairo. And the question was which is the worst match to play between: Playing against Egypt in Cairo, Playing against the Ivory Coast in Abidjan and playing against Ghana in Accra.

The phone lines were opened and u needed to have heard pple's shocking reactions, More so after losing to Guinea at CHAN. Nigerian fans have lost faith in Oliseh.

I, for 1 ,do nt have any good memories of the games we played against the home teams in Cairo, Accra or Abidjan from way back d 80s to date. Even during d great 90s Super Eagles era we never won any game in those three venues.

So guys which of the d 3 is the most dreaded to visit considering the present state of our Oliseh tutored Super Eagles: Cairo, Abidjan or Accra? Give reasons if u can.

Cairo is definitely the worst place because the Egyptian teams are always disciplined. Even when they lose, you can hardly blame their tactical plan or the ways the players follow the plan to the end.

It is the same thing like when you meet a top side. Any weakness is exploited.

As much as Coach Oliseh is good at what he does, his lack of experience can cause lapses in his game plan just as we saw him make a strategic blunder against Guinea.

The likes of Ghana and the Ivorians are not as sound tactically and strategically as the Egyptians. So I take Cairo as the most dreaded team, considering our position now.

Also, Coach Oliseh's negative rants about being owed and lack of bonus payment will not build the right mindset for his players as they prepare for this game. This is another point were his lack of experience showed.

Since the time of Westerhof, we have faced these NFF/NFA crisis. Managing the situation and keeping the boys motivated is the key. Just like Coach Siasia did in 2005, to Bonfere Jo and even Amunike who did not earn anything until he won the title.

The Egyptians are too disciplined and I fear them exploiting our weak points.

It must be Cairo. Not just because Egyptian players are always super motivated at home often using frustrating tactics, the crowd can intimidate you to limit and North African officials have a way of stressing you out before you start a game.

Remember Enyimba and how Orji Uzor Kalu practically arranged everything Enyimba needed for the North African ties. They were very difficult games.

The thing about Ivory Coast and Egypt is that we could go with the right players, right plan and win everytime but in Ghana we have a do or die opponent that doesn't need to be on form but just needs to know Nigeria is coming.

Agreed that playing in Cairo that even d officials would b against u including hostilities from d crowd and the Egyptian players themselves another such place is Tunis.

However, one thing i like abt playing in North Africa is they give u an excellent pitch where players can really express themselves plus dey play at night under flood lights. So if u present a very formidable team u 'may' stand a 'chance' of winning. And at d same time if u present a wack team prepare for demolition jst like they beat Tanzania, our other grp opponent 6-0.

In a place like Ghana, they will take u to dat there arid Babayara stadium in Kumasi and play d game 3pm Ghanaian time. A pitch that u cannot string up to 2 or 3 passes together. And have noticed how d Ghanaians play? Dey dnt need to make up to 3 passes u see them either passing and running with the ball or playing high balls. Dey dnt even do back passes. They can survive better on pitches like that. Unlike d Nigerian play that requires gradual build up from d defense to midfield to attack. That can work in Cairo bt nt in Accra or Kumasi.

As for Abidjan, the pitch is better than in Accra or Kumasi bt there is something abt that their stadium. The only time i know CIV lost in Abidjan in any qualifiers was the 2-3 loss to Cameroun in 2005 enroute qualification for 2006 WC. Pple believe they usually put 'Jazz' (Black magic) at the goal posts. Remember the game between us and them in 1993 enroute qualification for the 1994 WC. Nigeria led d first half 1-0 with goal from the great Rashidi Yekini. There was this 'Jazz man' in the stadium(pple dat watched that game can remember and testify). He was close to d sidelines. Some how d ball got to him. He quickly made some incantations and threw the ball to Abdullahi Traore(the CIV captain). Nt up to 2mins after, dat same Abdullahi Traore scored d equalizer. CIV won dat game 2-1, d game dat ended Reuben Agboola's career for allowing the ball to bounce in front of him knowing he was already behind d goal line. Nigerians protested abt that 'Jazz man' bt CAF threw out d case saying dey dnt believe in Black magic in football grin

Another unfriendly hunting ground for Nigeria is Conakry, Guinea. The best we have ever gotten (that i know of) was a 0-0 draw in 1981 enroute qualification for the 1982 WC.
