jahrule:
Oil companies are private ventures and as such the Owners site the head office where ever they feel is suitable for the purpose. Government has little or no power over this issue.

Another thing to consider in location choice of companies is funding, Oil companies would like to have their head office where they could easily contact Banks for funding projects.

Security situation in Niger-delta region is too volatile and no reasonable investors would site Its head office in such region.

Likely defence these companies would put up are the following:
1. Major Investments of these companies are in deep offshore which falls under federal government claims and no state can claim(Oil companies workers can throw more light to this)
2. Security situation would make them to maintain a skeletal offices in ND
3. Government has no right to tell them where to site their offices as non-governmental organizations.

But let`s see what happens.

U spoke my mind. Nice analysis but some people will think u are speaking from an envious mind.

I can tell half of you dont read anything but headline rushing to get likes. I know it's addictive but you guys should also read story critically. Lots of cool points u guys missed. Oil HQ relocation is cheap talk to win easy political cool points.

If your from Akwa Ibom you should be encouraged and that federal government has our back to actualize many projects. It's up to Akwa Ibom to source private sector funds.

Yemi Osinbajo has directed the International Oil Companies operating in the Niger-Delta region to relocate their headquarters to their States of operation to mitigate tension in host communities.

The oil companies decide not to leave headquarters there for a reason. Companies don't leave because they have nothing better to do with their time. From what I read it the violence in region that made these guys leave. If you guys find way to qwell it they maybe will consider spending a bunch of money needed for relocation.

He disclosed that, the Ministry of Petroleum is also working with major oil companies on several initiatives including; working on illegal refineries to establish modular refineries to achieve the desired result.

Excellent more modular refineries. I don't know if that will work too well with converting these illegal bootleg operations to above board operations. Did it work well with turning illegal mines to legal mines?

I think process should be fast tracked and streamlined. If they could do that it would be cool.

He emphasized on the importance of the Ibaka deep Sea port project, saying that, the Federal Government is seriously committed to its realization. According to him, “Indeed as a matter of fact, in the 2017 budget there is already a provision for the Ibaka port. There is already N1billion provision. It is a matter we take seriously to partner with the Akwa Ibom State Government”, urging state governments in the region to attract private investments in their domain in order to create employment opportunities for the youths.

Ibakka port going to be big deal if stars align. The rail way, Ibakka super highway, and air port to evacuate goods. FG will also providing naval secruity for port. Private sector investment 60% of investment funding. Then it will serve the industrial city Akwa Ibom is building. This is deadly combo.

Best news yet posted update on port if anyone wants to check it out.

well as stressed the need for the reactivation of the Aluminum Smelter Company (ALSCON) at Ikot Abais local government area of the state to create more opportunities for the people. He said, “With facilities we have in ALSCON, we cannot see it anywhere in Africa; from the services, communication to power generation you can create seven profits centres”.

I think it's defunct because cost are too high. Aluminum Smelting is higher than steel. It's good thing Akwa Ibom has cheap gas power.

Osinbajo for the visit, further solicited the support of the federal government for the completion of the maintenance, repairs and overhaul (MRO) facilities at the Akwa Ibom International airport to assist repairs of aircrafts assuring that, any financial assistance for the completion of the MRO will be refunded in no time from revenue generated from the repairs of aircrafts.

Nice hopefully they finish this by my next trip. What I really want is it to be international airport so I don't have to stop in Portharcourt.

How about the relocation of the military Headquarters to Borno state to quell the insurgency. Wasn't that a similar scenario

military intervention to an insurgent area is different from transferring civillians to a troubled areas

I wouldn't mind the relocation sha if appropriate I mean very appropriate security is provided

I doubt if you know what you mean. sad sad sad

Silicon Valley is what it is today because of the concentration of blue chip companies close to their source of labor and material.

The militants are restive because someone refuse dialogue and prefers breaching agreement. The Niger Deltans are veryyyyyyyyy simple and hardworking people. Speaking up for their due right is what earned them the "militant" title.

With the various headquarters located their it makes it easier for company and community dialogues and eliminates the usual bureaucracy that prolongs talks.

Mind you, the said environment gets polluted by their operations so it is fair for them to join in experiencing first hand the plight of the people.

I greet you.
You made a point sir.
