me too.....u know exceptional players when you see one.

We don't really need exceptional, we just need someone who can tuck chances in and has the mental strenght to deal with the fact that there are about 10 strikers in line waiting for him to slip up.

Super Eagles on duty today:

Hannover 96 1 : 0 1860 Munich

Sarenren Bazee with a much better performance from last week. Came in as a sub in the 40th Minute.

He got an assist and played well but the same problems from last week were observed, he loses possession too easily in my opinion.

Chelsea Loanee Omeruo Scores Second Own Goal Of The Season In Five Goal Thriller Against Fenerbahce

Kenneth Omeruo once again netted at the wrong end for the second time this season as his team suffered a 2-3 loss at home to league giants Fenerbahce.

The Chelsea loanee gave Fenerbahce a route back into the game by scoring an own goal which saw his team early two goal lead cut by one in the 31st minutes, before Fenerbahce leveled scores to 2-2 eight minutes later.

Aatif Chahechouhe netted what ended as the winner for the visitors in the 58th minute, to further worsen the plight of the Nigerian defender whose own goal started the comeback for Fenerbahce.

It is the second time that Omeruo has put the ball in the net of his team this season, the first happened on the 5th of November 2016 in their 4-3 win over Gaziantepspor.

However his 12th minute own goal didn’t prove costly on that occasion unlike this time around. Aside the two own goals, he has been one of the top performers for the team, with a goal to his name already, aside proving his versatility by playing comfortably well as a defensive midfielder.

Efe Ambrose Reacts After Man Of The Match Performance For Hibs

On loan Celtic defender has given his take on his man of the match performance for Hibs in their top of the table clash against Dundee United.

Ambrose joined promotion chasing Hibs on a 93 days emergency loan and has played in all of their three games since his arrival at the club, where he teamed up with his former boss at Celtic Neill Lennon.

Yesterday’s clash against Dundee United was more like the second division title decider, and the Nigerian played a big role in helping his side beat their host 1-0.

Ambrose coped with almost everything thrown at him in the game which saw two red card apiece for both teams. His performances drew praises for him on social media.

Reacting to his showing, Ambrose thanked the fans of Hibs, and the coach for backing him before revealing that he is yet to reach his best level.

” I want to thank my coach and the fans of Hibs, they have been fantastic, there support makes it easy for one to cope with ease. It’s a good result for the team not just for me”, Ambrose told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” To be honest, I am yet to reach my best level because I have only played three games so far, this is just the start of something big for me and Hib”.

Italian Serie A club Torino continued their preparations for Monday’s league match with Lazio.

Instead, the attacking midfielder underwent specific recovery work while the squad was training in Sisport.

The former Inter Milan wonderkid has featured 20 times for The Maroons in all competitions this term despite struggling with injuries.

Scottish Club Thanks Nigerians After Efe Man Of The Match Display

Hibernian have taken to social media to show their appreciation to supporters who backed the team in last night’s win at Dundee United.

The Edinburgh-based side acknowledged that a number of Nigerians would have showed an interest in the game at Tannadice Park because of their national team player Efe Ambrose, and inserted a Nigerian flag in their tweet.

Rohr Receives Fitness Boost As Iwobi Returns To Arsenal Training After A Bout With Flu

Any doubt surrounding the availability of Alex Iwobi for the upcoming international friendlies with Senegal and Burkina Faso has ended, with the attacking midfielder returning to Arsenal training on Friday.

The Gunners had their final training session ahead of Saturday evening’s Emirates FA Cup meeting with Lincoln City, and the Nigeria international participated in full training.

Having missed training for most part of this week after contracting flu, it remains to be seen if manager Arsene Wenger will name Iwobi in his 18-man squad for the game against the best non-league team in England.

Iwobi’s return to training will be sweet music to the ears of Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr as the German is already sweating on the fitness of one of the strikers called up for the friendlies, Hannover’s Noah Bazee.

The Hale End Academy product has eight appearances under his belt in the FA Cup since his debut.

Sunderland Manager Moyes Watches Nigerian Baresi, Efe, Put A MOTM Display For Hibs

Nigeria international Efe Ambrose did himself good when he put a Man of the Match performance for Hibernian in their 1-0 away win over Dundee United in the Scottish Championship on Friday.

The central defender won rave reviews from Scottish Football followers and has been compared to football legends Bobby Moore, Franco Baresi and Franz Beckenbauer.

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes and Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes were among the 9,532 spectators at Tannadice Park last night.

Oliseh’s 10-Man Sittard Lose Unbeaten Run, Nwakali Wins With Maastricht

By Johnny Edward:

Ten-man Fortuna Sittard, coached by former Nigeria head coach Sunday Oliseh, lost 4-1 to current Dutch second division leaders VVV Venlo in a league game on Friday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

A hat-trick from Ralf Seuntjens and another strike from Vito van Crooy condemned Oliseh’s side to their second defeat after ten games and put an end to Fortuna Sittard’s six-game unbeaten run in the Eerste Divisie.

Emrah Bassan restored parity for Sittard eight minutes after Venlo had taken the lead. Vito van Crooy made it 2-1 in the 27th minute and five minutes afterwards Kamen Hadziev was sent off for a second bookable offence.

In the second half Seuntjens bagged a brace for Venlo as they extended their lead to six points at the top of the log with nine games to play.

Oliseh has now recorded four wins, four draws and two defeats since he took charge in January.

Fortuna Sittard will host NAC Breda in their next game on Tuesday.

At the Riwal Hoogwerkers Stadium in Holland, Kelechi Nwakali was in action for 90 minutes as MVV Maastricht defeated Dordrecht 1-0. It was the Nigerian youngster’s 22nd appearance for the sixth-placed Dutch second-tier club. He has scored once.

Tianjin TEDA Coach Praises Emergency Defender Mikel, Ideye

By Johnny Edward:

Tianjin TEDA coach Jaime Pacheo has praised Nigeria midfielder Mikel Obi who featured as a centre-back in Friday's Chinese Super League draw against Jiangsu Suning, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Mikel made his second appearance in the Chinese Super League, partnering Pan Xi Ming in central defence as Tianjin TEDA recorded their first point of the season.

"Mikel is not a central defender, but he was willing to help the team," Pacheo, a former Portuguese international, told sports.enorth.com.cn.

"Before the game I had a personal conversation with him (Mikel) and he said he can play in the position, which was very good for us.

"He had a very good performance, his partnership with Pan Xi Ming in the center-back gave no chance to Jiangsu Suning.

"He showed with his quality on how well the role should be played especially how he communicated with his teammates."

Pacheo also believes Brown Ideye will be a big hit for the club after the Nigeria striker made his CSL debut in Friday's draw.

"Brown has been in the game before, so his state is still good, he is a player that will adjust well with his teammates with time, so I believe that he will be better in the next game," Pacheo toldsports.enorth.com.cn.

Tianjin Teda are now 11th in the CSL table with just one poin6ts. They face Chongqing Lifan in their next game on the 2 April.

Esiti: Gent Have Two ‘Cup Finals’ In Belgian Play-Offs, Europa

By James Agberebi:

Manchester City booked their place in the semifinals of the Emirates FA Cup in Wembley with a 2-0 away win against Middlesbrough in Saturday’s quarterfinal.

A goal in each half by David Silva and Sergio Aguero sealed City’s passage into the last four.

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was introduced for Aguero on the stroke of 90 minutes.

The win was City’s second in their last six FA Cup games against Middlesbrough.

City’s last FA Cup game at Wembley was their surprise 1-0 loss to Wigan in the 2013 final.

City had the best of starts as they took the lead in the third minute through David Silva who calmly finished off Pablo Zabaleta’s pass.

In the 22nd minute, Middlesbrough almost grabbed the equaliser but Zabaleta cleared off the line after Claudio Bravo had initially saved Rudy Gestede’s header.

Middlesbrough were forced to make a change on 27 minutes as Gestede went off injured and was replaced by former Manchester City forward Alvaro Negredo.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, Yaya Toure almost doubled City’s lead but his header off Kevin De Bruyne’s cross narrowly missed the target.

In the second half, Aguero had a chance to make it 2-0 for City only to see his effort off Raheem Sterling cross hit the post.

Aguero finally got on the score sheet on 67 minutes after coolly putting away Sterling’s superb pass to make it 2-0 to City.

Former Manchester United defender Fabio thought he had reduced the deficit for Boro with less than 15 minutes left but John Stones cleared the ball off the line.

Esiti: Gent Have Two ‘Cup Finals’ In Belgian Play-Offs, Europa

By Johnny Edward:

Anderson Esiti believes KAA Gent have two ‘cup finals’ to win if they dream of winning silverware this season, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The 2015 Belgian champions are currently seventh in the Belgian First Division A table and face Mechelen on Sunday needing a win to be guaranteed a Championship play-offs spot.

Gent also have a 5-2 first leg defeat at home to Genk to overturn in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16 clash at the Luminus Arena next Thursday.

“We were bitter after the Genk game but sincerely that’s behind us now we have two big games against Mechelen and Genk again to win,” Esiti, 22, told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“Those games (against Mechelen and Genk) will define our season.”

A win for Gent and a defeat or draw for Sporting Charleroi who travel to Lokeren in the final league match next Sunday will secure a Championship play-off spot for the Buffaloes.

“I’m expecting a difficult second leg against Genk but we can achieve something great away in the second leg,” Esiti, who has played 28 games in all competitions this season for Gent, added.

Genk have defeated Gent twice this season in their last three games.

Iwobi praised for picking Nigeria over England

By Lee Hurley

Alex Iwobi has been praised by former Super Eagles international, Reuben Agboola for selecting to play for Nigeria.

“I take my hats off to (Alex) Iwobi for choosing to play for Nigeria,” Agboola told National Network Online.

“It is difficult I know. Especially when you have never visited the country before; when you hear of the instability in the Federation and in the coaching set up.

“These things affect the minds of young players but that’s why I am very impressed with Iwobi. He plays for Arsenal but chose to play for the Eagles. Good on him I say”

Agboola, 54, was also a dual-nationality player with both English and Nigerian qualifications like Alex. A left-back by trade, he opted to play for the Super Eagles and went on to make 9 appearances for them. Iwobi already has 8.

Iwobi is a doubt for Arsenal’s FA Cup game against Lincoln. Although he returned to training on Friday, the lingering effects of the virus that he picked up could see him miss out.

That, in itself, is no bad thing.

His form has been poor of late. That’s no surprise, he’s young and that’s what happens. Against Sutton, he was hit hard early on and struggled to force himself on the game after that. Lincoln are coming to the Emirates with those sorts of tactics in mind.

A little time out of the spotlight with time to focus on the basics again will serve him well.
