Super Eagles Defender Troost-Ekong Selected In Team Of The Week In Belgium

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has been rewarded with a team of the week selection following his fine performance for Gent in their 2-0 win over Zulte-Waregem.

Troost-Ekong was selected by respected Belgian sports site Voetbakrants.com as one of the best eleven players in the league after the conclusion of the last round of games, which was in the Belgium play-off.

As reported by Owngoalnigeria.com, the Nigerian was a late inclusion in the starting line up for the game, after a player pulled up injured during the warm up few minutes to the start of the game.

Despite his late inclusion, the 23 year old settled into the game nicely and was very pivotal in the clean sheet kept by his team, as he kept feared marksman Mbaye Leye quiet for the entire duration of the game.

Ekong has been sparingly used since returning from an 18 months loan spell with FK Haugesund in Norway in January. His latest performance however suggest he still has a future at the club he joined two years ago.

He is expected to resume his “Oyibo Wall” partnership with Leon Balogun when the Super Eagles play their first competitive game of the year against South Africa in June in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers.

I once told one of my brothers who is a top analyst that the possibility of Dortmund deal might work only if Auba is to move to City or even a bigger side like madrid.

Hoffenheim, Dortmund... whatever.... I just know some decent clubs with excellent coaches will be willing to accept Nacho.... so it is time.... #LetMyNachoGo

Chief Icon4s... that one line of yours few pages back is what summarises all I have been crying out since the beginning of this wahala.... Pep does not rate and does not have plans for Iheanacho. And ever since the story of that reps deal flew about Nacho failing to sign with Pere Guardiola (Pep's brother) which could be true or just there as 100% details are missing in such story.... I knew it just got more more hellish and dangerous for nacho.

Anyway.... nacho must leave. Summer looms large upon us... #LetMyNachoGo

Official : Gent Loan Out Nigerian Wonderkid Hailed As The Next Wilfred Ndidi To FKH

Through their official website, Norwegian Tippeligaen outfit FK Haugesund have announced the signing of highly-rated Nigerian youngster Anthony Ikedi on loan from Belgian club KAA Gent.

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands the 18-year-old Ikedi joined Gent on a three-year deal and had been issued a Belgian work permit before he was farmed out on loan to FKH for the remainder of the 2017 season.

Gent beat several clubs in Europe to the signature of the giant defensive midfielder, who has been likened to Leicester City's Nigerian star Wilfred Ndidi.

The Golden Boot Soccer Academy product has prodigious passing ability, can strike the balls from distance and is very physical.

Both Gent and FK Haugesund did their homework well before signing the precocious talent as he was extensively scouted back in Nigeria.

Ikedi joins ex-Golden Boot Soccer Academy teammates Ibrahim Shuaibu and Anthony Izuchukwu at FKH.

OmatSone Aluko played the whole 90mins in Fulham's 1-1 home draw with Brentford in the English Championship.

Note: Aluko and his Fulham side are likely to feature in the Championship playoffs for the last EPL qualifying spot after their draw today... they have I believe one more game

Wilfred Ndidi was fantastic in Leicester's 1-0 away win over west Bromwich Albion in the EPL. A game that just concluded minutes ago.

More news on Odey..... wonder who will get our rising home lad... pray he gets a great deal. He is one of our rising pearls. If this Russia deal is actually true... then I can only wish him the best.... All Nigeria soccer reports interests from Celtic and a few Scandinavian clubs....

World Exclusive – NPFL Top Scorer Odey Off To Russia To Complete Transfer To FC Krasnodar

The top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League Stephen Odey has accepted an offer from Russian side FC Krasnodar, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Odey received the offer few weeks ago, and it came with flight tickets, accommodation and medical expenses, plus full details of the contract he is expected to sign after undergoing medicals with the team currently placed 4th on the log in Russia.

A confirmation of Odey’s impending transfer was later confirmed by owngoalnigeria.com sources in Russia, including a club source who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity.

Already the MFM forward has submitted his passport to the Russian Embassy for visa process to commence, a move which knocked him out of the Super Eagles camping exercise in France as he couldn’t attend visa interview with the French Embassy.

The scorer of 14 goals in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is expected to arrive Russia next week, where if all goes according to plan, a deal will be formally announced by the team.

Known for his pace and goal scoring abilities, FK Krasnodar sent a direct contract proposal to MFM FC, which was accepted by his manager who has long insisted that the forward won’t attend trials.

Already he turned down trial opportunities with Belgian side Gent and Russian top flight side FC Rostov, and was deep in talks with some North African teams before the offer from FK Krasnodar came.

Leon Balogun was left on the bench in Mainz's 1-2 home loss to Borussia Mochengladbach.

Mikel undergoes successful surgery

Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has undergone a successful surgery.

The Nigeria international suffered an injury while playing for his Chinese club Tianjin Teda two weeks ago, and has been out since, before going under the knife and will now go into rehab as he starts his recuperation and journey back to fitness.

The 30-year old posted a picture of himself on a hospital bed after the surgery with the caption:

“Surgery went well, rehab next... can't wait to be back️?? shame I can't be on the pitch fighting with my team #TianjinTEDA #TEDAFightingFightingFighting ”

Following his injury and surgery, he will now miss out of the Super Eagles’ planned training camp in the French island of Corsica next month, where they will play a friendly against a Corsica XI, and a possible clash with Burkina Faso.

The training camp is geared towards preparing the Eagles for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in June.

Rohr picks two new NPFL stars to join Super Eagles

Two new faces from the Nigeria Professional Football League will be given invitation to the Super Eagles ahead of the France camping of the Nigeria national football team latest reports indicate.

According to AOIfootball.com, the NPFL players, whose names will be released officially by the Super Eagles team secretary next week are Alhassan Ibrahim popularly called ‘Muazam’ of Akwa United who has scored 10 goals with 6 assists in the Nigeria premier league this season.... and....

The second player on the list is Sikiru Olatunbosun of MFM FC who scored a goal that won the CNN goal of the week earlier in this season. Sikiru is now being called the nick name ‘CNN’ for that exploits by his teammates at MFM FC.

The duo are to join Ikechukwu Ezenwa who is already part of the Super Eagles set up.

Interestingly, Stephen Odey who is the NPFL top scorer and was seen as a first choice among the home boys has been overlooked at least for the France camping exercise.

It is understood that Odey has his traveling passport trapped in one of the European countries' embassy.

The proposed training camp in France for the Super Eagles will open from the 23rd of May, it has been revealed.

The three-time Africa champions will have a training camp in the European country in preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa, and will play a friendly against Corsica, a tiny island in France.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr had earlier confirmed the camp in France and that there will be an international friendly against Corsica.

Sir GoodJoe.... With Auba likely making the move to City and Nacho likely to be involved in the deal that may see him go to Dortmund. What do you think?

Good move or bad in your books? Tuchel is an excellent coach. You can see his works with Christian pulisic of USA who featured at same Fifa u-17 WC that had Osimhen and K.Nwakali.

Ofcos the possibilities of Nacho's destination being another team like Hoffenheim and a few others still exist too....

And I get your points about his development ish... but again... the Playtime/Training time combo model is still one I recommend.... But again Sir GoodJoe... you have already said that Nacho can leave for game time in the summer naa... all these ones you are discussing now with others to just to show the importance of training over 90mins gametime. The behind-the-scenes aspect of soccer is not lost on me... I value it very highly but I also value gamtime coz it also serves as a good catalyst to enhance and help a youngster quickly apply what he is learning....

So I get you okay... biko... these talks are becoming too lengthy...

This is not the first time you are saying it. Before you say do not get it twisted. I have avoided quoting you hoping my clarified point is gotten through my replies to Sir Icon4s. Unfortunately, you made the statement again.

If Chidi Nwakali was training with the Manchester City team and not getting game time, I will want him there a season or two to absorb the system.

Hence he is not training with the team, I want him out of the club. That is why Guardiola rejecting to sell Chidi to Brendan Rodgers annoyed me. Brendan Rodgers plays a similar system and I want Nwakali learning it first.

Same goes to Onyekuru.

So I do not want that misconception. It is about learning the system and not fitting into the game plan. That is another reason why sending Denayer and Angelino on loan annoyed me.

I do not know how true it is but Tuchel is an amazing coach, a brilliant tactical mind, plays at a very high intensity and believes in grooming young talents.

If Nacho goes, I feel it will be a nice move. The Germans are good at grooming youngsters, just as Werner you pointed the last time.

Tuchel's style of play creates lots of chances, so Nacho there will have the chance to hit a high goal to game ratio.

Let us see what happens.

My time table was a season or two. If Nacho leaves now, it is okay with me. I hope he keeps the lesson close to his heart and keep practicing it.

AIG07:

you're so on point Baba.

Guardiola might have won it all across spain and Germany. But in England his legendary status as a coach will be tried n tested.

I can remember one of his fans shouting up and down telling me that lord pep has arrived and that will translate to man city dominating the whole of England for a long time. I smiled then. He went to claim that he sees him winning trebles after pep's first 6 winning streak(I told d dude that this is EPL and not those leagues where one or two teams have established their dominance over a long time). But still he won't listen.

One thing with pep's fans is that they see him as 'infallible' and adopting his philosophy translate to success both on and off the pitch. But I tell them in England you don't play philosophical football rather you play football the way it is.

Welcome back Sir Kog45, Abeg where is Sir Certitude and Mikron.

Okay.... It is not about about Making Pep's team anymore. It is just about his development for now. Well.... I get you but I hope you understand this is why other forumites will keep jumping on you coz they read meanings into what you say as " Kelechi, just stay and learn for one more season... don't bother about game time... just learn okay..."

But hey! I get you alright... This is what Nacho has been exposed to since this season began.... the fitness which comes from the intensity training, the healthy lifestyle, the pressing system, and all the great culture that Pep's system imbibes.....

And this is why I always made the statement... "let him focus and make the best of the non-playing situation with the remainder of the season as he has always done and then by summer he seeks gametime......

This is a discussion with so many angles and most are closely related and very sensitive... this is why most points get entangled and misunderstanding crops up....

But I get you okay... smiley

Conclusion: The timetable you drew of a season or two is already met... Nacho has spent a season learning under pep despite not being on most matchday squads... so he can leave now... good. End of discussion....

Yara Yara.. plss get me a bottle of chilled water abeg....

I hope he keeps the lesson close to his heart and keep practicing it.

can you please spare me that intensive training
what's the essence of undergoing intensive training and not given the opportunity to practice what learnt...?
it's like a pupil who study his books hard daily and not allowed to write an exam...

please... spare us that intensive training thing..
you saying as if pep is the only good tactical coach we have out there....
he is inimical to nacho development... pellegrini offered more and played a fatherly role to the young lad

The opportunity to play can always come if a player is not getting playing time by moving to another club. However, the formative years to groom a player comes early in the career. That is why training regularly at such intensity at a young age is important.
