Danny Mills Takes Stick For Strange Comments About Nigeria Danny Mills has never been one to waste too much time dallying with restraint. After Luis Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup, for example, he called for Suarez to be locked up. He's once again taken some stick today for some strange comments made on BBC Two. Mills was doing co-commentary with Guy Mowbray on the U-20 World Cup final, which has ended in glory for his native land: they beat Venezuela 1-0 thanks to a goal by Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Such success will naturally excite the English media for the future, although during the game Mowbray did sound a note of caution: playing for England at U-20 level will not prevent a player from declaring for a rival nation at senior level. Mills was having none of this on commentary, claiming that players should stick around for England, to play in the Euros and the World Cup, as they are the competitions that "really matter". “ Again, I'm going to be biased but if you have the opportunity to play for England, you have to take it. The quality of England, for me, far outweighs the chances you will have for Nigeria. OK, you might go to the African Cup of Nations, you might pick up a medal. But in terms of competitions that really matter on the world stage, the Europeans, the World Cup...England would be your first port of call. Of course I'm going to be biased on that. https://www.balls.ie/football/danny-mills-366852 |

TheGoodJoe: Playing off the shoulder of the Last defender played into the hands of the South African strategy because they kept a smart line which even with perfect delivery, Kelechi would have been caught offside. Even the one good delivery given to Kelechi, he laboured through and got out paced by a 35yr old Gk. Seriously, I wonder what will happen when we play Cameroun with this same strategy, employing Kelechi as a lone striker. Against those rugged Camerounian defenders and a smart Gk. They will easily shut us out over 2 legs without breaking a sweat. 1 Like |

Super Eagles lack quality upfront - South Africa coach, Baxter mocks Nigerian players dailypost.ng Jun 11, 2017 9:03 PM Stuart Baxter, coach of the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, has mocked Nigerian Super Eagles after their 2-0 loss in Uyo on Saturday in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The Englishman said that much as the Super Eagles controlled the match, especially in the early stages, the team lacked the required quality upfront. Speaking to South African media on Sunday, Baxter noted that with good cutting edge in front of goal, the score line would not have been bad for the Super Eagles. “We are still relishing that result and it is good that we win. I am so happy because I just joined the team back and it is good we start well for the AFCON qualifiers. “I will still say kudos to the Nigerians because they stretched us and made some dangerous movements. But if I may sound very respectful and modest, their attack was not the very best they could have presented. “They were without quality frontline, otherwise, they could have scored in the early exchanges but like I said earlier, it is good that my players responded very well in the match,” he said. Nigeria is currently third in the qualifying group behind leaders, Libya, and South Africa and will play Seychelles, who lost 1-5 to Libya in their next encounter. |

Frankly, all nigerian players qualify to play for nigeria however, only a handful can represent us and this is not the time for scouting thousands of foreign born talents. This is the time to finetune strategies and gel as a team. Enough with all these prospects of solanke, ejaria, onomah, tammy abraham talks. The talents we have right now, how have we utilized them. Nigeria is the only country in the world that can raise teams A,B,C and D cos of the large pool of players. We are too talented. Its all about resource management. This seems to be the problem we have as a nation. Always wanting more. More than we can manage.. Look at oil.... What have we done with all the resources we have..... Story for another day |

Super Eagles Apologize To Fans For Home Defeat To Bafana wetinhappen.com.ng Jun 11, 2017 8:33 AM The official Twitter account of the Super Eagles in the early hours of Sunday tendered an unreserved apology for Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Tekolo Rantie and Percy Tau scored the Bafana Bafana goals in the second half at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo on Saturday evening that ensured that the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winners have won a competitive game against the Super Eagles. Completesportsnigeria.com’s check on the Eagles’ Twitter account, @NGSuperEagles, revealed a sober and contrite statement. “We are disappointed with the result of Saturday’s game. Our heads are bowed and spirits low because we didn’t make our fans proud or happy,” the Super Eagles admitted. The Eagles Twitter statement then hinted at a possible changes in the playing department ahead of the double header 2018 World Cup qualifiers against African champions Cameroon in August. “We’ve resolved to bounce back quickly, learn from this setback, get better and stronger. We take this as a WAKE UP CALL, not a DEATH SENTENCE.” The Super Eagles account then offered in the spirit of fair play. “We congratulate @BafanaBafana on their victory,” The post Super Eagles Apologize To Fans For Home Defeat To Bafana appeared first on Complete Sports Nigeria. |

EEGA: Disagree with Baxter's opinion. We did not create chances, not that we were poor finishing. When you say a team lacked quality upfront, it means that a side crested chances but the forwards did not take their chances. In this case, Iheanacho was in good position to score but the passes did not come clean. So I think Baxter meant we did not have a quality attack midfield because as I said before we had enough opportunities to put three goals in the first half. |
