Rohr Insist On “Cursed” Uyo Stadium For Eagles Clash Against Cameroon, Even Mikel

The proposed plan of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to move the Super Eagles World Cup 2018 Qualifiers from the Godswill Akpabio Stadium has been rejected by coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

Issues regarding logistics and attitude of the crowd made the NFF to toy with the idea of moving the games of Nigeria from the stadium, amidst reports of the stadium being placed under a spell by aggrieved residence of the land, who are claiming their land was forcefully collected from them to build the stadium.

Nigeria lost her last game at the stadium to South Africa 0-2 in their first AFCON 2019 Qualifiers, and their next competitive game which will be against Cameroon in the race to be at the World Cup 2018 is rumoured to have been shifted from the ground.

However coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has kicked against the idea of moving the team from the Godswill Akpabio Stadium insisting it will affect the psychology of the players, who have taken the venue as their home.

” I am in constant touch with the team’s captain (Mikel Obi) and other senior players and they all agree that the team remains in Uyo to finish all qualifiers. Changing the venue will put the boys under pressure. The players are at home with Uyo fans”, Rohr stated.

The coach insist that the pitch didn’t contribute to his team’s loss against South Africa as speculated by many, and wants them to remain in Uyo to finish both the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers and AFCON 2019 Qualifiers as well.

Same Owngoalnigeria initially reported that he, Cyriel has been contacted once by Nigeria.... or it was not formal??

Anyway... here is the link to the story (I also shared it a few pages back): http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/06/17/update-belgian-born-hitman-dessers-nigeria-have-contacted-me/

Exclusive Chat With Belgian-Nigerian Striker Dessers, Who Has Opt For Nigeria Ahead Of Belgium

The name Cyriel Dessers has been one on the lips of most football loving Nigerian after his declaration that he wants to play for Nigeria ahead of Belgium, where his father hails from.
22 year old Dessers trained with Belgium U-21 in 2015 but didn’t play in their European Youth Qualifiers against Moldova as he was unused substitute in the tie.

Dessers scored 29 goals and provided 13 assists last season for NAC Breda to fire them to promotion to the top flight, but was snapped up by FC Utrecht thanks to his hand in 42 goals.

He spoke with Owngoalnigeria.com senior editor Osas Mahawi on his dream to play for Nigeria and the secret behind his goal scoring feat last season, as well as his target for the new season.

OGN – Have you been formally approached by Nigeria?

Dessers – No, not yet but it would be a dream come true for me to represent Nigeria in the nearest future.

OGN – How much do you know of the current national team of Nigeria?

Dessers – I follow the selections and games, also the youth teams on big tournaments and Olympic games.

OGN – Have you met any player in the present national team of Nigeria?

Dessers – I played against Moses Simon and Wilfred Ndidi in
the past in Belgium, and I have a mutual relationship with William Troost-Ekong.

OGN – What is the secret behind your goal scoring exploit last season for NAC Breda?

Dessers – I think there’s no secret. You need the feeling, hard work and a good team behind you.

OGN – Have you set a target on the amount of goal you think you will score this season with Utrecht?

Dessers – No I don’t work with a target, because there are also other items where I can be important for my team.

OGN – Thanks a lot Cyriel Dessers.

Dessers – Thank a lot sir.

A fantastic/world class etc player can be rendered ineffective by the opposition on a specific match day. That does not make the player less special. An average player can have a very bad game. That does not mean the player is useless. We can't judge a player by one-match performance. All our players have earned their rights to be in the team. However, roles they play, the opposition they come against, the tactics the coach employs and other many factors will determine their "shineability" on matchday

I prefer the Leicester link for Iheanacho. I hope they are really serious and they see to him teaming up with Ndidi.

TheSuperNerd:

Because of one game, some people wanna rubbish the super quality of a player.... I am sure when Mastouroudes used the word "Substandard", he was just misunderstood.... I am sure he was not and never referring to Iheanacho or even Iwobi.... people need to chill and stop trying their best to rubbish our young fantastic super talents.... One loss does not make them any less special

The 50 Best Young Players In The World : Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Leicester Nigerian Talents Make List

Telegraph has published a list of the world’s top young footballers under the age of 21, with five players of Nigerian descent included.

Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal), Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City), Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City) and Liverpool-bound Dominic Solanke made the prestigious list.

At number fourteen, Iwobi is the highest ranked Nigeria international ahead of Ndidi (33rd) and Iheanacho (36th), while Alli and Solanke ranked fourth and forty-seventh respectively.

Here are some of the comments about the Nigerian wonderkids by the editors of the British newspaper :

Alex Iwobi: ''A perfect Arsene Wenger player, versatile, intelligent and quick, Iwobi hasn't looked out of place alongside established stars like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.''

Wilfred Ndidi: ''Signed in the hope he could help fill the giant N'Golo Kante shaped hole in Leicester's midfield, while Ndidi hasn't quite solved those problems, he has proven to be a fantastic buy.''

Kelechi Iheanacho: ''Has had his first team time reduced under Pep Guardiola's management but Iheanacho is one of the best young strikers around''.

Dominic Solanke: ''Solanke recently moved to Liverpool after coming through the ranks at Chelsea, which might concern those at Stamford Bridge who watched the striker win the U20 World Cup with England''.

The top five features Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe, City's Brazil wonderkid Gabriel Jesus, Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele, Dele Alli and Germany international Leroy Sane.

Rohr said he invites players with the opposition in mind.

Kog45:
Hmmm i read your beautiful post and that of Supernerd, but my submission is this,we already have a team that beat Zambia and Algeria but due to injuries, players like Ikeme,Mikel,Balogun were out, also Moses was un available,Omeruo couldn't make d starting lineup

The South Africa match have come and gone but we learnt a lot but d technical crew learnt more than us,there should be no emotions or sentiments in their own analysis of things,is either they performed or kick out.

Whether we like it or not Cameroon game we be decisive coz of age rivalry, being Africa champion is a plus for them, also being a leader in our group is a great advantage to us,all we need is to go back to basics coz we started well under Rohr but something went wronged against south Africa and must be addressed without sentiments.

Rohr first assignment was Tanzania match and later Zambia but against Algeria he brought out his XI team, namely Ikeme but injured,Akpeyi came as a replacement,Omeruo as RB,Echiejele as LB,Onazi as DM,Balogun and Ekong as CB,Iwobi at d right midfield,Victor Moses at d left side,Mikel and Etebor doing it at central midfield and Nacho doing it upfront.

The match against South Africa saw lot of changes especially due to injuries to some players and this brought imbalanced to d team and Rohr failed in this aspect, for instance d pairing of Onazi and Ndidi was an eyesore,it is not compulsory for d two to make starting lineup, despite Kante of Chelsea rise,he is still a second fiddle in French national team,Benzema despite wearing Real shirt, find it difficult to break into French national team of late.

Despite the presence of Onazi,Ndidi which i believe is enough for now, some are clamouring for Esiti, whereas Agu is in d waiting,do we need to invite all this guys coz i realized they are all DM.Instead of inviting Agu and Esiti we need to give room for attacking midfielder like Ajagun or put Iwobi in his right place so that absence of Mikel w not be felt.

If care is not taking Rohr we still get it wrong against Cameroon coz looking for a striker at this time to prosecute Cameroon match is out of it,we already have Nacho,Kayode,he should just add Ideye who is already part of d team and move on.

Rohr should just revisit his XI against Algeria with omission of Akpeyi and probably Iwobi with Ideye coming to d line up to give Nacho chance to do his things.

My line up against Cameroon is Ikeme in goal and 4-3-3 formation with Omeruo, Echiejele,Balogun,Ekong in d defence,Onazi,Etebor,Mikel in d midfield,Moses,Ideye,Iheanacho in d attacks, just hope no injury set in,this team we do it against Cameroon.

So we gats men here that play FIFA?. Lol. I haven't touched konami or PES in ages, cos in North America, FIFA is the dominating game. I miss my PES days. Lol

TheSuperNerd:
Looollll.... this one made me laugh oooo.....
cheesy

So you play EA's Fifa, Konami's PES and First Touch's Dream League eh? cheesy

Lots of formations don't come with DMFs but you and I know that in some of these formations, DMFs are present but not by the name "DMF" but "CMs/CMFs"

Example in the 4-3-1-2 formation... the "3" there represents three CMs .... but normally a coach in reality will put a ball playing DMF as one of those three and he will play centrally in front of the defence.

Other formations without the actual DM tag is the 4-3-3, 3-4-3, 4-4-2 flat (4-4-2 diamond always has the DM tag), 5-3-2 and so on... but in such formations... one of the CMs must act the role of DM too... wink

Look at the 4-3-3.... Check out Barca's 4-3-3... check out Madrid's 4-3-3, that third midfield player playing centrally and closer to the defence is actually a DM... more like a ball-playing DM but on paper and in games he is labelled as a CM.

So I hope this helps shaa.... I no be coach ooo... loooollll

Dennis “Nigerian Neymar ” Bonaventure Dazzles In Open Session With Club Brugge

Highly rated 19 year old Nigerian forward Dennis Bonaventure popularly referred to as “Nigerian Neymar ” stole the show in Club Brugge open training session that took place yesterday.

Bonaventure joined the team from Ukrainian side Zorya last month after a storming first professional season in Europe, as he starred in their Europa League campaign as well as domestic games.

Known for his pace, strength and dribbling, he resumed with the team last week and in their open session his quality was very evident as they step up their preparations for the UEFA Champions League Qualifiers.

Already he has been tipped to have a big season with the team due to his ability to play various roles in attack, as witnessed last season at Zorya where he played in almost all attacking role.

On a personal note he will be looking to increase his goal tally of six from 22 league games last season in Ukraine, which wouldn’t be much a problem considering his new club have an approach that is more attack orientated than his former team.

TIME, NOT CAMEROON, IS BIGGEST THREAT TO SUPER EAGLES' RUSSIA 2018 HOPES
By Solace Chukwu

The mood around the Super Eagles has changed a lot since the excitement of last year, but they shouldn't fear Africa's champions

After the Super Eagles nervelessly took care of business against both Zambia and Algeria last year, it was a groan that greeted the news Cameroon lay a full ten months away. All the attendant fears: disruption of rhythm, the uncertainty of the future, as well as the very nature of the opposition, have now all been actualized. It would appear that we create what we fear.

Of course, no one could have guessed to what degree these would play up. Since that victory, when it seemed all the stars in their courses were aligning, everything that could possibly go wrong, has. This is accounting for personnel as well as extant
circumstance.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, the two great young hopes of the national sides, have seen their rising club profiles curtailed. In the case of the former, there has been a dwindling to utter insignificance: his entrances toward the end of the season just past took on the air of tokenism, and the recent reports of Manchester City’s interest in Pierre Emerick Aubameyang have only served to infuse urgency into an already transparent situation: he needs a new club.

Leon Balogun’s injury monkey has clung stubbornly to his back; consequently, even when fit, his place in the Mainz set-up is no longer as assured as it once was. The same can be said of Carl Ikeme, the rebound guy for a nation still reeling from the shock of being jilted by Vincent Enyeama.
Both with great ability, and leaders at the back: they give you their all, but they’re not always there when you call.

Neither, for that matter, is Victor Moses, splitter of the Maghreb sands and the Dani Alves of Cobham. He was injured again, this time not for a friendly, as the Super Eagles went down in Uyo; though, he was crocked the March friendly against Senegal. Thankfully, that has done nothing to threaten his place at Chelsea.

Both Elderson Echiejile and Ahmed Musa have somehow become worse as footballers; Moses Simon, once full of endeavour and end product, is now just full of endeavour.

Team captain and talisman Mikel John Obi has swapped London for Tianjin, and has somehow managed to get injured (weren’t we told China was a place to put your feet up, sip the tea and make easy money?).

Indeed, look through the team, and the flowering of Wilfred Ndidi has been the only positive personnel-wise.

Even that, going by his fish-out-of-water role against South Africa, might prove problematic going forward, especially considering the fact Ogenyi Onazi remains, for some reason, virtually undroppable.

The landscape has also changed.

From practically biting Zambia’s hands off for a draw at home, Cameroon are now playing in the Confederations Cup in Russia, somehow wearing the tag of ‘African champions’. Hugo Broos has got his side, technically limited and unimaginative, pulling in the right direction and winning simply by refusing to lose.

Gernot Rohr has also begun to see his authority undermined in certain quarters, most notably by the (infamous) NFF Technical Committee led by Barrister Chris Green (presumably without a white cat cradled in the crook of his arm); while the age-old chestnut of agents lobbying for the inclusion of their clients in the national team is smouldering once more in the fire.

More dangerously, and insidiously, hubris appears to have overtaken the man from the City of Squares who began so openly and humbly. His selection and decision-making for the loss to Bafana was troubling; throwing poor Chidozie Awaziem to the dogs is surely the sort of mistake that will not be repeated, but it betrays a deeper trend of increasing insularity.

However, the youngster performed in training, there can be no substitute for match experience, neither is there a means to recreate the pressure that comes with earning a first competitive cap for your country.

It also shows that man management may not be the strength we once imagined Rohr had.

His decisions to leave out Kenneth Omeruo, who surely would have been pumped to face Tokelo Rantie again; bypassing Ahmed Musa for the captaincy against Senegal; and leaving John Ogu out of the matchday squad completely, in spite of the fact he was the best passer available; these all speak volumes.

Then again, perhaps it is only natural that with familiarity comes knowledge. Whatever the case, the tide seems to have turned almost completely. Where once Nigerians were champing at the bit to face Cameroon, there is now hesitation.
The simple passing of time, fraying at the nerves and introducing randomness, has beaten history’s finest armies. It may yet undo the Super Eagles.

Everyone's bashing Onazi saying he did not do his primary ho1b as the DMF., that he was running around. Well I saw two DMs on the pitch against SA Ndidi and Onazi. Except u are Rohr or own Rohr's hear no one should say Onazi was the DM cos no one can claim to know that. I can also claim that Ndidi played rubbish cos he was the DM, but I already see people typing to refute such claims that he was not. Well, i stand by my fact that Onazi was not the DM. A team can play without a DM. If you feel that's a lie, why does EA sports have fifa formations without DMs? We too de claim coach for this forum just to drive home a point. A coach can change a formation and nobody knows what Rohr must have told the MFs during the game. So we should cut onazi some slack. I was one of the people really upset with him after the game in the heat of my emotions. However, having watched the game 3ce, I'd have loved to have 3 Onazi's in MF on the day. He was by far the best in terms of presence, passing, mobility. Ndidi was happy passing to the opponents or not even anticipating passes. Let's just at least be humble to call a spade a spade. I'm not saying Onazi is better than Ndidi, but when it involves that SA game Onazi was miles better than Ndidi

please name one actual team that plays without a dmf. how can you have two dmfs in a three man midfield? that means you either do not have a Cmf or an Amf which does not make sense. if after watching the match three times you still did not notice that Onazi takes up the dmfs position when the ball is in our side of the pitch then you need to watch it again the fourth time. please football isn't fifa where Messi can run from defence to attack and score,

this article is brilliant for so many reasons.

the first part is practically saying the same thing we have been saying. for those who still do not understand it means that Ndidi was played out of position, that means he was playing as the CMF on the day hence the 'fish out of water' and that means Onazi was the DMF, all these guys that think FIFA is real football should take note.

then the second part is brilliant. some people were saying that Omeruo would have been psychologically weak against Rantie but the truth there is that he will.be out to impress. even if he is error prone he would have given a good account of himself because this is an opportunity to exert vengeance on his oppressor but somehow Rohr didn't see that. wouldn't blame him though, that's the work of a proper team psychologist

NNAMDI ODUAMADI: AFRICA'S FORGOTTEN CONFEDERATIONS CUP HERO
By Solace Chukwu

As far as records at a senior Fifa tournament go, the AC Milan forward stands alone. Why then has he been forgotten?

Cameroon opened their Fifa Confederations Cup campaign against Chile on Sunday, and in so doing, moved ahead of both Nigeria and Egypt (both on two) for most appearances at the tournament. Fittingly, it is the Indomitable Lions that have come closest to winning the competition, beaten by Thierry Henry’s extra time goal in the final of the 2003 edition, the last time the competition did not serve as a World Cup dress rehearsal.

Much of Africa’s history at the tournament then has root in these three nations. The likes of Hossam Hassan, Samuel Eto’o, Daniel Amokachi, Mohamed Aboutrika and Emmanuel Amuneke have shone here, all greats of the continent’s game.

However, in one particular stake, this array of excellent forwards is upstaged in the most spectacular fashion.

There is still only one African player with a claim to a Confederations Cup hat-trick, or indeed a hat-trick at a senior Fifa tournament. His name is Nnamdi Oduamadi , and he is on the books of AC Milan. That is, at least, until the end of the month, after which his contract will expire and he will be a free agent.

If that has you reaching for the warmth of Google’s assured hand in the dark, you are not alone.

Many a career has been launched by this very competition, with household names such as Marcelo Zalayeta and Ronaldinho (remember him?) announcing themselves to the world, in 1997 and 1999 respectively. For Oduamadi though, that was hardly necessary: by the time he put Oceania champions Tahiti to the sword in 2013, he had been on Milan’s books for four years.

Just shy of 20, Oduamadi joined Milan from the Pepsi Football Academy, having apparently caught the eye. Now 26, the forward’s claim to fame, aside the triple in Belo Horizonte, is probably as the answer to obscure footballing trivia – he has been loaned out eight times since 2010, to seven different clubs, which is surely some kind of record.

The world of football is of course replete with prodigies who have failed to live up to their potential, but few have managed to not do so quite so spectacularly.

Fewer still have earned the nickname 'Robinho' back in their home country, even though the forward has another Brazilian footballing great on his bedroom wall poster. “My idol is Ronaldo. Yes, Ronaldo, il Fenomeno,” he gushed in 2013, hoping his opener against Tahiti was worthy of the two-time World Player of the Year.

Ironically, he may not have made the squad at all to Brazil.

There was initial consternation when he was first called up to the national team by the late Stephen Keshi. He debuted in 2012 in a friendly against Peru, but would have to wait a year later for a second cap.

His 15-minute cameo was effectual though, capped with a late goal to salvage a draw and rescue the Super Eagles from certain embarrassment in a home World Cup qualifier against Kenya.

At the time, he was on loan with Varese, who had narrowly missed out on promotion to Serie A before his arrival, in a first of two separate spells. He has played eight times in Serie B, only five of those starts, scoring once and laying on another.

There was nothing about him that justified a call-up.

Keshi praised his work rate and application though, as well as his ability to go past players. That latter has always been his biggest strength – Oduamadi is routinely rated as one of the world’s fastest players in the FIFA 17 database.

His awkward coordination on the ball though, as well as hit-and-miss (more miss than hit, in truth) decision-making and his inability to link up effectively with teammates made for a rather frustrating package.

He made a couple of more contributions in green and white, most notably winning a penalty in a 2-0 home win over Malawi in another World Cup qualifier, but he was culled from the squad for the competition proper. It mirrored some of his disappointment in missing out on the U-20 World Cup in 2009 due to injury.

If one dream should fall and break into a pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again.Tank you LORD 4 everything 2:00 PM - 3 Jun 2014 82 14 Nnamdi Oduamadi @oduamadi7 Follow

There was a brief, cruel final ray of hope at Milan, following an impressive spell on loan with HJK Helsinki in Finland. Some reports suggested Rossoneri boss Vincenzo Montella had been sufficiently impressed by his performances to recall him to San Siro for the second half of the season.

“My holidays have been cut short now," he began hopefully.

"Hopefully, I will get a chance to show what I can do.”

He however made no appearances for Milan, and will be released at the end of his contract this month.

He still has many years of football to look forward to, being
young. However, it is unlikely he will ever again hit the heights of that June afternoon in Belo Horizonte; he last featured for the Super Eagles in a friendly against Scotland in 2014. It is unlikelier still that, seeing as Cameroon’s forward line is not a position of great strength, his record will be disturbed any time soon.

Then again, one never knows with these things.

After all, he was an unlikely hero himself four years ago, albeit against minnows Tahiti. Perhaps that is the lesson, the defining theme of Oduamadi’s career: every now and again, even the ordinary is capable of transcending its own circumstances and, by extension, itself.

Swansea City Linked With Move For West Ham, Leicester Target Kelechi

Premier League club Swansea City are hoping to tie up a deal for Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Mirror says the Swans have entered the race to sign the £20 million Manchester City striker Iheanacho.

But the Welsh side face competition, with the likes of West Ham, Leicester City and Crystal Palace all credited with an interest in the Nigeria international.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has already informed the Super Eagle that he's surplus to requirements in the new season, and they are willing to cash in on the striker to raise some funds for their transfer business this summer.

The 20-year-old has scored 21 goals in 64 outings for City since his debut in the 2015-16 season.

Ex Nigeria U-17 Ace Femi Joins Portuguese Top League Side Belenenses, Eyes Eagles LB Spot

Highly rated Nigeria left foot dazzler Femi Balogun has joined Portuguese top league side Belenenses on a two year deal from newly promoted side Deportivo Aves.

Balogun signed a one year contract with Desp. Aves last season, but left the club after helping them gain promotion and will now defend the colours of Belenenses till the summer of 2019.

The former Kaduna United defender is originally a forward player by trade, very much at home playing as a left or right winger but last season he made a positive impression playing in an unfamiliar role as a left back.

He scored five goals last season for Aves, and has already outlined his priority this season, which includes building his abilities as a left full back which will help him realise his dream of representing Nigeria at the World Cup 2018 in Russia.

” My main target is to do well with my new team in the top division in Portugal. I truly believe I can help Nigeria solve the left back issues because I enjoyed myself playing from the role last season”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” I represented Nigeria at U-17 level in 2008, and played in both league of the qualifiers which we lost to Benin Republic. It’s a pride to wear the green white green of Nigeria, and i’m looking forward to it”.

Swansea join West Ham, Leicester & Southampton in battle for Manchester City youngster
By City watch

Swansea City are the latest club to show an interest in signing Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho, the Daily Mirror claims.

The Nigerian is available for sale but City are expected to demand over £20 million for the clinical young striker and also want a buy-back clause in any deal, which is
complicating West Ham’s pursuit .

With an increasingly large cast of clubs in for Kelechi, though, it appears only a matter of time before someone makes a bid that City bosses consider appropriate.

In addition to Swansea and West Ham, Leicester City and Southampton are also keen on Kelechi who burst on to the scene under Manuel Pellegrini in the 2015-16 season before becoming more of a peripheral figure last season following the arrival of Pep Guardiola.

West Ham are said to still lead the race for Iheanacho but may want to strike a deal soon with so much interest from rival Premier League sides.

Iwobi needs to do something about his getting tired during games. He should discuss with the team fitness trainer and team doctor at Arsenal. Do some stamina drills to stop it.

Naaaa. Ndidi and Onazi started oit as the DMFs, if there's a case to be made then it was even Onazi that was more advanced of the 2. Ndidi only started going forward more when we were losing and Onazi being the person with more stamina had the ability to pace up and down the MF. When we were losong there was no designated DM.

Mickael2:

please name one actual team that plays without a dmf. how can you have two dmfs in a three man midfield? that means you either do not have a Cmf or an Amf which does not make sense. if after watching the match three times you still did not notice that Onazi takes up the dmfs position when the ball is in our side of the pitch then you need to watch it again the fourth time. please football isn't fifa where Messi can run from defence to attack and score,

Peter Olayinka Joins Kingsley Madu & Aliko Bala At Belgium Side Zulte Waregem

Belgium Europa League representative Zulte Waregem have concluded the loan signing of 21 year old Nigerian striker Peter Olayinka from fellow league side Gent.

Olayinka spent the last 12 months on loan to Czech Republic side Dukla Prague after injury robbed him off the chance to make hay with Gent following his move from Albania side Skenderbreu in January 2016.

Last season he scored six goals from 22 games for his loan side as he continues to work his way to full fitness, a rise he is hoping will continue following his move to Zulte Waregem where he will team up with fellow Nigerians Aliko Bala and Kingsley Madu.

“This is a new season in a new league,” Olayinka said after he completed his loan move. The Belgian league is higher (than that of Czech Republic) and I wish to adapt as quickly as possible to a new league so that I can show what I am capable of.

“I want to do better than last season and score more goals.” He said.

And whatever makes u happy as well. If you feel Ndidi was the CMF and Onazi was the DMF, that's possibly ur opinion and how you choose to draw the formation up. Let me explain something, no coach gives out his team shape to any tv pundit. All coaches or designated team personel do leading up to a game is that they hand out the names of the 11 players. What(how)ever a skysports, fox, bein, espn choose to arrange the team list is down to sheer speculation oir their pundits. That's why ever station does a simulation and state "here is how we THINK they'd play". Coaches sometimes do explain their approach after the games. That's how we know Conte switched to a 343 formation cos he explained it. Same with Wenger cos they explained it... But based on what I saw in the SA game, Onazi was a CMF to me and Ndidi was supposed to be the DMF, but did he play like one? That's up in d air to be debated. No one on this forum knows what happened except to speculate how the MF was set up. Except Rohr explains how he set the team up which I have not rest at this point. So if it makes u happy that Onazi was DMF or even a defender, that's your view.

Please, as Mickael2 said, you need to watch the game again to tell who was the defensive shield. A good example is the player who dropped deep to the defence to receive the ball more from the defenders. That was Onazi. This thing does not need too much argument.

NFF TECHNICAL COMMITTEE WILL NOT SELECT PLAYERS FOR ROHR, SAYS ADEPOJU
By Taiye Taiwo

The ex-international claims that the technical committee won't interfere with the Super Eagles' choice of players for national assignment

Mutiu Adepoju has revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation technical committee has never and will never interfere in the selection of players by the Super Eagles boss, Gernot Rohr.

Adepoju who is a member of the body, debunked speculations that invitation of players to the senior national team will be influenced by the committee, but stressed that the committee is readily available to offer support and help to the gaffer whenever things go wrong.

He also disclosed that the German was invited for a meeting to review the Super Eagles’ performance against South Africa and not to criticise his selection of players.

“Nobody has ever selected a team for him [Rohr] and nobody has ever questioned his selection,” Adepoju told
Goal.

“The technical committee has always been in support of Rohr’s decision right from the beginning, inviting him is just to find a way forward in which we can help him to achieve his set goals.

“It is just the normal thing when things go wrong, you cannot just close your eyes and let it go, you need to have a review of what happened and how we can help so we can move forward.

“The meeting was a very good one in which we discussed the way forward and how we can be of help and support to him.''
He added: ''We’ve been supporting him all this while, we confirmed him and we have been giving 100 percent support since his appointment.

“The technical committee has not met in one year [before this month’s meeting], and everybody has been saying that it is probably the committee that is picking; the technical committee has not been picking players for any coach.

“What the technical committee is about, is trying to see that things are put in the right order and put minds together with the coach to see if he has any problem or he needs us to come in to facilitate somethings.”

EXCLUSIVE: 'ECHIEJILE'S TIME IN SUPER EAGLES IS UP'
By Taiye Taiwo

Tajudeen Disu believes the time has come for the defender to quit international football following his drop in form, owing to Inconsistent club action

Former Nigeria international Tajudeen Disu says he expects Monaco defender, Elderson Echiejile to know when to leave national team duties as a result of the decline in his game.

Disu, who represented the country at the 1986 Fifa U20 World Cup in Mexico, thinks the game of football might be leaving the 29-year-old defender and has advised him to quit the scene for young players.

Echiejile was fingered for his shoddy display following Nigeria’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to South Africa in the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers and the 42-year-old has called for more competition for the vital defensive position.

“We need to look for young players, Echiejile has done well for the country,” Disu told Goal.

“He has played well and I’m not saying it is finished now.

“When you play to a point, it will get to a stage where football will leave you even if you don’t want to leave football.

“We’ve played it before to the highest level and we left it, even if you don’t want to leave the game, it will leave you.

“I think that thing is telling on Echiejile, he has done well for the country.

“I will advise the coach to look for young players who can fill that vital position because if you are playing and you notice that your game is getting weak, it is time for you to go.''

In the just concluded season, Echiejile played nine times in his loan moves to Standard Liege and Sporting Gijon.

BOOST FOR NIGERIA AND TIANJIN TEDA AS JOHN OBI MIKEL NEARS RECOVERY
By Shina Oludare

The midfielder picked up an injury against Chongqing Lifan, forcing him to miss international duties, but he is nearing his return

Tianjin Teda captain John Obi Mikel has stepped up his recovery from injury by engaging himself in intensive ball work.

The 30-year-old has missed ten games for the Tianjin Tigers since suffering a strain in his side's 2-0 win over Chongqing Lifan – where he got his first league goal.

Mikel insisted that his recovery was going well and took a step towards his return to first-team action by taking part in ball work with his coach.

''Few more weeks and I'm back on the pitch with my boys #TianjinTeda #SuperEagles #recovery,'' he wrote on Instagram.

Few more weeks and I'm back on the pitch with my boys #TianjinTeda #SuperEagles #recovery

That meant he would face a race against time to be back for Tianjin’s home game versus Shandong Luneng on July 9.

And having missed out of Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, he will be expected to lead Gernot Rohr’s side to victory against Cameroon in August’s 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia qualifier.
