-replace a Bn's worth of t55 tanks
- get artillery systems
-modernize comma

NAF can;
-Medium lift choppers NEW & REFURBISHED (must have at least 8yrs service life left)
-Add more/replace radar sites
-Add UAVs pending the JFs(this one matter weak me pass)

NN can

I believe Nigeria upgraded their L-39s in-house.

the L-39 is in the class of the Donnier Alpha jet, BAE Hawk etc.

the New L-159 is in the ranks of Yak-130 and Hongdu L-15.
We upgraded the avionics Abi?

Excellent news for the French shipyard Ocea, who has once again won a great competition for export. The Vendée manufacturer has indeed, according to our information, been awarded the winner of the international call for tenders launched by Nigeria for a hydrographic building. In the final, Ocea was apparently opposed to an Indian yard.

The company, based in Les Sables d'Olonne, won with a proven solution, based on the OSV 190 design, already built at two

Agreed with everything you said except" used Choppers, as long as we are going to get medium lifts, MI-17's or Super Pumas".
MY Brother make we no go down that road .person don pafuka, equipment sef no gree werk anytime same nah tokunboh make we buy am brand new especially helicopter or make we no buy am at all.
I disagree with you on the used choppers. We can get very good medium lift helos that have been in storage. We buy, upgrade and fly.

you would need to:

1. Design a new turret
2. Select the armament
3. Design an FCS
4. Re-wire the entire vehicle

It would be a huge job.

Plus, the effectiveness on an MBT fire-support platform would be questionable. Why?

1. Even the "terminator" has not been *that* succesfull - only two operators and even the Syrians chose normal T90's over the Terminator, despite the fact that the Terminator is (on paper) designed exactly for the conditions you see in syria.
2. Mobility - it would be too big, too heavy, too slow and require too much in terms of logistical support.

More effective avenues to persue would be the upgrading of Nigerias MB-LT and Saurer 4K's.

Too heavy ,too slow. You need speed and range for COIN ops.
Insurgents will just get in their Toyotas and drive away if they see you coming in that. Guerrilla warfare doesn't rely on holding ground. You need light wheeled vehicles so you can run them down "African wild dog" style.
Nigeria should take the opportunity to buy the surplus Ratels that will become available when Hoefyster production ramps up. There are many upgrade options for that vehicle and you could buy a platoons worth for the price of one MBT.

The only problem I have with Operation Hoefyster is that we had the option of upgrading the Ratel and turned it aside - the savings could have been huge. Furthermore, opting for upgrade as apposed to replacement does not neccisarily imply an inferior product - look at what the Americans have squeezed out of the Bradley and Abrams platforms or the latest Russian T72B3's.

I dont know the SANDF's orbat, but 236 seems light for a brigade. Further, we will still be stuck with another 400+ Ratel (if the replacement is 1:1)

No, these things don't work against Boko Haram. Their tactics are based on sacrifice of lives not battle - craft. They come with fast vehicles, don't stop and offload hoards of suicide bombers throwing IEDs. In the distractions, others are crawling towards you with RPGs. Mobility is the best weapon. Retreat quick, then hit them really hard from stand off distances.

We need 300 more MRAPs and lots of ZU-23-2s

We are sure of three. One of them may be JF 17B, two JF 17 Block II. We may pay for the entire squadron this year and buy Block III in 2023.

We don't need to get 300 more MRAPs. What we actually need right now are proper IFVs.

Depends on the upgrades Ur looking for

Also if u opt for upgrades u will need to extensively refurbish the vehicles , go for new power pack etc to keep the upgrades meaning full.

Personally I would rather go for upgrades which increases situational awareness and tactical control both vertically and horizontally via over the horizon sensors , comms etc , drop in a small calibre autocannon with air burst shells and Ur good to go.

There must not be any compromise on mobility , infact should actually better it .

Then this vehicles can become a mobile pivot around which the ops can be run as required.

Concept : Deploying Army MLRS from Navy Ships for Coastal Fire Support Missions

The Nigerian Navy is ranked 4th in Africa by GFP (Global Firepower). It is indisputable that the main criterion for assessing the Navy of any country is in tonnage.

Nevertheless the amount of sea based firepower available to a navy can be an equally important way of assessment when each unit of investment can achieve the greatest possible positive net effect.

Unfortunately while Nigeria has invested over $1 billion in naval acquisitions in the last five years, there is no single vessel in the Nigerian navy equipped with weapons tha can deliver ordnance at ling distances. The decommissioning of NNS Aradu created a capability gap in the Nigerian Navy.

Paradoxically the solution to this problem might lie with the Nigerian army.

The possibility of putting an RM-70 MLRS on warships might not be farfetched. The two major shortcomings of the Nigerian Navy is a lack of precision land attack capability and organic unmanned ISR. Since Nigeria is reluctant to invest in missile launch systems at sea, sea based rocket artillery might not be a bad idea.
Placing RM-70 MLRS on warships will give Nigeria navy the ability to strike deep into enemy littoral territory from standoff distances out at sea, which will also enable a reduction in reliance in air power to deliver over the shore attack.

Two RM-70 on a frigate or coastal craft makes for a potent 120 nm range projectile. Just imagine multiple launchers firing multiple rockets on area or multiple target being from a Nigerian Navy ships !

pragmatic approach to deterring foreign aggression but the writer did not explain to us how he intends to solve the inherent accuracy issues.

firing rockets blindly might saturate or overwhelm the target when in close range but anything longer than 5km the rockets salvo strike cone would increase dramatically.

maybe you meant guided projectiles which is plausible However, Close in weapons systems like the Phalanx mounted on ships negates such concept.

I could be wrong though.

You mean your unit never used them? I know and that's not what I meant. Recces, 32Bat and I think Parabats in the early days used them.

The Recces and Parabats still use them for training together with the East Bloc captured stuff, to burn through the old stocks and to get the troopies proficient in operating without the modern accoutrements.

Speaking of which, where's andrewza to tell us when the Navy subs will be firing their old remaining torpedo stocks?

I don't see us shooting the old stock. Torpedoes are costly and unlike missiles don't have a hard expiration date.
