you would need to:

1. Design a new turret
2. Select the armament
3. Design an FCS
4. Re-wire the entire vehicle

It would be a huge job.

Plus, the effectiveness on an MBT fire-support platform would be questionable. Why?

1. Even the "terminator" has not been *that* succesfull - only two operators and even the Syrians chose normal T90's over the Terminator, despite the fact that the Terminator is (on paper) designed exactly for the conditions you see in syria.
2. Mobility - it would be too big, too heavy, too slow and require too much in terms of logistical support.

More effective avenues to persue would be the upgrading of Nigerias MB-LT and Saurer 4K's.

The only problem I have with Operation Hoefyster is that we had the option of upgrading the Ratel and turned it aside - the savings could have been huge. Furthermore, opting for upgrade as apposed to replacement does not neccisarily imply an inferior product - look at what the Americans have squeezed out of the Bradley and Abrams platforms or the latest Russian T72B3's.

I dont know the SANDF's orbat, but 236 seems light for a brigade. Further, we will still be stuck with another 400+ Ratel (if the replacement is 1:1)

Depends on the upgrades Ur looking for

Also if u opt for upgrades u will need to extensively refurbish the vehicles , go for new power pack etc to keep the upgrades meaning full.

Personally I would rather go for upgrades which increases situational awareness and tactical control both vertically and horizontally via over the horizon sensors , comms etc , drop in a small calibre autocannon with air burst shells and Ur good to go.

There must not be any compromise on mobility , infact should actually better it .

Then this vehicles can become a mobile pivot around which the ops can be run as required.

Paradoxically the solution to this problem might lie with the Nigerian army.

The possibility of putting an RM-70 MLRS on warships might not be farfetched. The two major shortcomings of the Nigerian Navy is a lack of precision land attack capability and organic unmanned ISR. Since Nigeria is reluctant to invest in missile launch systems at sea, sea based rocket artillery might not be a bad idea.
Placing RM-70 MLRS on warships will give Nigeria navy the ability to strike deep into enemy littoral territory from standoff distances out at sea, which will also enable a reduction in reliance in air power to deliver over the shore attack.

Two RM-70 on a frigate or coastal craft makes for a potent 120 nm range projectile. Just imagine multiple launchers firing multiple rockets on area or multiple target being from a Nigerian Navy ships !

The Recces and Parabats still use them for training together with the East Bloc captured stuff, to burn through the old stocks and to get the troopies proficient in operating without the modern accoutrements.

I don't see us shooting the old stock. Torpedoes are costly and unlike missiles don't have a hard expiration date.
