I have not worked as driver before but I can drive. As a result I do not know much of Lagos route as good as experienced drivers. I have however decided to register as Uber driver because I don't want to give myself any excuse not to earn. But I want to ask experienced drivers: How best can I help my not knowing Lagos roads too well even if I have decided to drive to earn? I will appreciate your helpful response.

Google map is your friend, with time you get to know several routes.... Although most times your first option is to ask the rider if he or she knows the direction, if that fails, use Google map...

I bought my car and started using for Uber, google map made me see things, they were scary... I saw things that made my mind shudder... Infact, google map directed me through a route no car has passed in a long while, but all d same never get discouraged, google map helps a lot..

With this kind of attitude, you already know most places.
There is a proverb that says, a person that is willing to ask, doesn't usually miss his way.
Google is your friend, but Google maps is your absolute best friend in the whole wide world. Google maps is amazing.
It's not 100%, you can rely on Google for 85%-90 of the time.
You can ask your rider for directions 30% of the time. They are usually willing to help. If you choose to ask for directions from your riders, you must be sharp.
Lagos is like life. If you miss your turn, it's not always easy to manouver back on to the correct road. So make sure to be sharp, ask questions before you pass your junction.
Not everywhere is mapped, so try to map in reverse the way to leave the place. Maybe you have to take an individual to his house in an estate that is not mapped on Google at 2 am! The individual knows the way in, so he will direct you. But once you drop him, you are on your own as they say in OYO. Google maps can't help you, and at 2 am you probably wouldn't find anyone to ask. So my friend, as you are entering places, be using your brain to map how to get out of them too.
As you drive more, you start to learn different places, it's just the way our brains are wired. As time goes on, you will rely on the map less and less.
This is how I learnt my city.
Good luck.

TheCar:

It's not about Gazzuzz mindset.

The vehicle manufacturer in the car manual shipped with the car (also downloadable in pdf on the internet) state the required engine oil grade needed to service your car.

If you do otherwise and looking for Gazzuzz to validate or authenticate that what you have done is right is a wrong move.

For example, my car requires a 0w-20 API SM and the best I can get in Nigeria market is 20W-50 API SD - SL. If I go ahead to use 20W-50 for a car that needs 0W-20 would me asking Gazzuzz if I have done the right thing make things right?

My Point - Don't be stingy with preventive maintenance and don't think you can cut corners with spare parts and preventive maintenance and expect that you get the best performance from your car.

If you want your car (Naija Uses), to remain prestine and in good mechanical and electrical condition don't go against what your vehicle manufacturer recommend.

It's that simple.

Mail from Uber....

Introducing the driving time limit feature on the app to help keep you safe.
driving for long periods of time can increase the risk of accidents related to fatigue. To make roads safer for both you and riders, we're introducing a new app feature, driving time limit.

What is the new feature?
Starting on Monday, 18 June 2018, the driving time limit feature will put a time limit on how long you can drive on Uber before having to take a break. Driving on Uber only means the time when you are online and the vehicle is moving. The app will notify you of the need to take a break after 12 hours of driving. You’ll then have to be offline for an entire 6 hour period before the timer resets. Following the reset, you’ll be able to take trip requests again.

We know there are some questions that you may have. Listen to the podcast explaining this new feature.

washing your car, changing your oil on time is very good, but there's more to maintaining a vehicle properly.

This uber vehicle will be out of action for the next 5days, and owner will spend over 2weeks earnings on repairs.
