@Josh0

If OBJ wants to fight against graft, he should throw himself in jail first because he has undeniably embezzled some funds here and there. Charity begins at home, you can't be dirty while telling your friends to clean up, they won't take you seriously. You'll look like a big joke, that is the reason people don't trust EFCC. If they are really out for corruption, they could have gone after OBJ like they've gone after Atiku because both are born of the same kind, they're corrput straight to their glasses.

Donzman, please help me enlighten those guys. They talk like infants who are still sucking and enjoying the breast milk of their mamas. I wonder if they ever make use of their thinking/reasoning faculties before posting anything here; that is if they even have the faculty.

We will never, not in the forseable future, have a "clean" President. Not if things continue the way they are. In fact the entire National goverment, Assembly, Senate, State and Local goverment are currupt.

Most, if not all (including the president himself) are beneficiaries of the continuing criminal enterprise that is Nigeria. So we have the following options if we must progress as a nation -

1) All goverment officials at all levels are thrown in jail as they are all "currupt". Come on guys. THINK. We know this will never happen.

2) We continue with the status quo, turn a blind eye to all the looting and wait till a "Clean" president emerges as everyone in office today, including the president and vice, are guilty one way or another- In the current circumstances, a clean president will never emerge as the entire system is poluted, manipulated, prejudiced, currupt. So this too will never happen

3) The goverment embark on internal cleansing to usher in a new era. The last man standing himself (OBJ), guilty as he may be, will be subject to scrutiny soon as he hands over the batton. It will be payback time for the President.

So no one is saying OBJ isn't currupt or hasn't benefited from curruption in the past. But the good news is that he represents the past, he'll soon be consigned to history, come May 2006. The same cannot be said of the Atiku's and IBB's of Nigeria. Should they succeed in their devious aspirations, it'll be another 8 years + endured of the same nonsence.

So let's elevate our thinking and depart from the extremely simple, reactionary and unproductive reasoning. Let's look at the big picture and stop this proliferation of narrow-mindedness.

@JoshO

I believe Jerry Rawlings did something similar to option 1 when he took over in Ghana, now look at them prospering.
Re: Atiku Is A Disgrace To Nigerians by IykeD1(m): 7:49pm On Oct 10, 2006
@Donzman,

And I suppose you are assuming that Jerry Rawlings was entirely corrupt-free, an angel so to speak?
Talk to real Ghananians and you will find out to your dismay.
Re: Atiku Is A Disgrace To Nigerians by Odeku(m): 9:49pm On Oct 10, 2006
What is the popultion of Ghana compare to Nigeria? do they have diversity like Nigeria?
Re: Atiku Is A Disgrace To Nigerians by Chxta(m): 9:50pm On Oct 10, 2006
No.

Lagos is larger than Ghana in terms of population.
Re: Atiku Is A Disgrace To Nigerians by IykeD1(m): 11:07pm On Oct 10, 2006
Plus they have no "curse of oil" problem to deal with too. Size and resources aside, Jerry Rawlings
no doubt left a mark in Ghana, but that is not to say that he is a saint.

On the other hand, these guys does not deem Obasanjo fit to do anything about corruption because
he is not a saint, as a matter of fact they are in favor of Mr Corruption himself, Atiku or that Evil man,
I mean the World's Greatest Looter who wants to come back to power,
Re: Atiku Is A Disgrace To Nigerians by joshO: 5:36pm On Oct 11, 2006
Rawlings, far from being a saint, was a sinner, reforming his ways and desperate to set his country on the path to reform. He himself became the subject of one probe after another when he left office. He even lost his entire military security detail in the power struggle that ensued.

Despite the size of Ghana as a country, it took a sinner to set the country on this path, as only a sinner would have ever risen to that position (by force or otherwise) and acquired the requisite power to effect change on that scale in the first place.

The case of Nigeria is even more difficult. If one rotten man decides enough is enough, and deals a powerful blow to these ambitious rogues (for whatever reason or criteria applied), then kudos to him.

Let's look at a simple analogy. Say there are a number of viscious robery gangs fighting each other in your neighbourhood for supremacy or whatever other reason, and a dominant one takes out the others. My opinion then would be that there would be two or three less bandits colonies to worry about. And it may make the task of law enforcement easier as they'd have to concentrate on just one.

I can't imagine any of the staunch Atiku/IBB supporters on this forum complaining that the other criminal gangs are being 'targeted' unfairly or the dominant bandit has no 'business' eliminating the competition as he himself is not 'clean'

This may be a rather simplistic analogy, but it's not far from what's currently happening in our polity. All of these guys are thieves and the less of them we have poluting our space, the better for us all.

everybody should let atiku be. where have obj been since atiku is still our money? why is all these coming out now that the third term has failed and atiku is indicating his interest to help him further still money.
since stealing is a culture obj should let the man continue.
these are two people elected into power as nos 1 and 2, will it be possible for one to get a bell university, a modern and big liberary and a major share holder with the five big companies in the country with one just been there without making moves.
unfortunately, the presidency is not readyu to continue the case as his sole aim is to stop him from contesting and they will settle out of court while we become their fools.
the major witness in the matter left for london on a monday on health matters and died on a Tuesday while the other key witneses are at large. their games are working out well.

What I fail to understand is how Atiku is able to produce cheques linking whoever criticizes him in the war againts OBJ. I guess that says a lot about the source of those cheques. After the talk of producing cheques linking El-Rufai to PTDF I said to folks that I will not be suprised to see cheques linking even Gani Fawehnmi to PTDF.

Well the truth is that these cheques even say a lot about his person, if he had all these evidence why did he not let the Nigerian people know all this all this while as our number 2 citizen and defender of the constitution. Why does it have to take him being accused to come up with all this. Guys I dont know what u think about this guy but go onto wickipedia.org type his name and see his record as custom boss and his clearing of suitcases belonging to Emirs. He has a track record of abusing his office to pepertrate corruption.

I dont know what you think but this guy is not fit to be president.
Re: Atiku Is A Disgrace To Nigerians by omofineboy(m): 1:19pm On Nov 20, 2006
I viewed it from a different perspective, when Atiku showed a cheque linking Osuntokun to PTDF he admitted he collected the money but for campaign purposes, when he told El Rufai to file his defences at senate El Rufai kept quiet, when he released cheques linking Obasanjo aides, women friends and family members, he obasanjo never denied the cheques, I think we ned to be a bot Objective, all Atiku was doing is to proof that OBJ is not a saint which he claimed to be, El Rufai can never be compared to Gani Fawehinmi, no basis for comparision, Even though it was said he El Rufai remains the best student ABU produced but he also remains the most wicked ABU student ever produced, who says El Rufai is clean? was he not named in a land deal in Abuja?. I dont think the cheques are fakes as it is being portrayed if they are those named should go to court. Atiku is a Thief, Obasanjo is an armed robber.

Re: Atiku Is A Disgrace To Nigerians by Backslider(m): 10:52am On Apr 20, 2007
@Rawlings

Rawlings was a conscientious soldier. He never sought power but the right thing to be done. He has similarities with OBJ I can tell you for a fact only that OBJ has more intelligence than Rawlings. Rawlings was too PURITAN in his approach.

You must know that Rawlings was not the one that Ordered the Killings he would have been killed It was an uprising of the people that and Rawlings was the Pin head of the uprising and he did not believe that people should die. But since he left power he have been betrayed to his face by his friends.

The Junior rank in the Army that Rawlings Belonged to had a view/notion of the Senior officers as corrupt men and if Rawlings had not played along with these the Junior officers they would have immediately seen him as a collaborator. So now that Rawlings is not in Power his friends are defecting to the other party because there is nothing to eat but the conscientious ones are still there. The Npp( ruling party) are also making wedging Media war against the Party that Rawlings is the founder of. The Media is dealing ruthlessly with NDC( opposition).

A LEADER SHOULD HARDLY LISTEN TO NEWS BECAUSE HE IS THE NEWS.

Obasanjo knows very well that his friends are corrupt and I know that he will deal with them ruthlessly as he has set a fast track court what will prevent this is

1) The Country at war
2) Atiku in power
3) The country breaks up

Look very well at the political scene you see all the above have been tried.

You people should leave Atiku alone.

Atiku in AIT - face the nation yesterday Ask that after 8yrs, the only corruption charge against him is placement of fund in a bank, then he is not corrupt at all

An post by a South African in a Global forum

don't know much about the Nigerian political landscape but i have heard a lot about Atiku and his troubles. I actually equate him to Jacob Zuma in South Africa. I say anyone who has been linked with corruption must keep their hands off from the presidency!! As for Bukari, the military rulers have robbed Nigeria of much needed progress for the last several decades, they must stay off. So i guess it comes down to the Abasanjo crew, although i have to say that i am not impressed by the PDP's blatant disregard of law and due process with regard to the electoral process and its integrity, let alone the alleged wide spread rigging of the state elections. He is setting a bad example and his "legacy" is being completely eroded.
