In my case, I rarely have bad dreams when I watch horror films, but there are a few exceptions. Annabelle was worse than Hereditary, scared me more but did not cause me nightmares. Hereditary did. Take the words of a super fan who has read almost all his books, and when I say it is one of his best, it means there are others he wrote which weren't all that great. But the Shining? That is one of his unmatchable masterpieces.
