Argentina won the WC B4 maradona started playing for them , they got the the finals B4 then , they had great players like kempes , Menotti , do Stefano( he didn't play much games for them though) . A team that got to the WC finals twice B4 maradona started playing for them and had won the Copa America like 7 times B4 Diego started ? Dude take a chill pill Armando is probably their greatest footballer but the albicelestes have been on the fucking football map since the 1930's

Oga Maradona made Argentina a country to reckon with in football

Are you Nigerians naturally born and bred in rudeness? Can't you just make your point without showing your ill brought up background? Who told you I'm a Chelsea fan of all clubs?!

Sorry if I sound rude..just get angry when people compare Mikel to kanu nwankwo.
They are just in the same class.
Once again. I'm sorry

Bro, let's be sincere. Push sentiment aside.

Messi has taken his country to world cup finals. Be honest. Aint that something?

For me, I think second in world cup is more respectable than 1st in continent. Please give it to him. Messi has tried. Haba!

Lol... How is 2nd in world cup better than 2nd on continent.. lol...

So El Hadji diouf heroics at 2002 world cup is better than Samuel eto nation's cup truimp??

Bro sorry I forgot to mention Yak. My point is that strikers have never been our problem (until recently tho). Those strikers I mentioned have delivered for Nigeria in local/African parlance like yekini. However those guys have scored more than yekini at club level during their time. Are u seriously gona say YAK & OBAGOAL were dwarfed by yekini? Common bro.

Yekini bros,>>>>>>> Yak + Obagoal

Diouf did not support his heroics with other accomplishments na. Compare Zidane with Samuel eto and see how it will look like.

nothing special about mikel's career.

have you heard about 1996 olympics?

kanu literally destroyed brazil in the semi final.
A brazil 1996 olympic squad that had the likes of , roberto carloz , rivaldo , ronaldinho , ronaldo de lima(el fenomeno) and juninho .

Or when a 32 year old kanu led portsmouth to the fa cup final against cardif city. scored the winning goal.

or a 17 year old kanu winning the fifa under 17 world cup in 1993 , scoring five goals plus five assist?

there's no way a sensible football fan will compare kanu to mikel.

goals?
assist?
chance created?
individual trophy?
team trophy?

It's annoying and disrespectful for anyone to compare Mikel obi to nwankwo kanu. They are not in the same level at all.
Kanu nwankwo is gifted with techniques and skills no African footballer can match till date. He play football with ease and make a difficult goal look easy.

Op, your top shows when you started watching football. So, I won't begrudge you. That said, it is ridiculous finding Mikel there. Did you do your research well or was it down to ignorance that you wrote that Philip Osondu played with Kanu at Japan 93? Unbelievable.

Without doubt I think KANU Nwankwo deserved to be Nigeria's Greatest

1. He was the key man in U17 when we won the cup......Japan 1993

2. He destroyed Brazil at Atlanta 96 to put Nigeria on the global map.....when Nigeria became the first African team to win Olympics goal

3.He was the first Nigerian big player to play in the EPL ....remember the Arsenal invincible

4. Mehn the guy was graced ...two times African football

5 At a point the most decorated player in the whole of africa

Op you know the answer to your question but it seems this lock down has made you create a thread.

Without any iota of DOUBT, Papillo remains the best.

His singular act at Atlanta '96 was phenomenal.
He single handedly took the team's fate in his hands and dribbled both Brazil and Argentina.
He secured an equaliser and sealed a desired WIN for us.

Omo no be lock down matter

It was omokachi the bull comment..... He said Mikel is the greatest? So wanted to know who really is the greatest?

Check any where it happens you will see.... A tall guy from Nigeria as key figure of the team

The answer is not straightforward because there isn't any outstanding player who dominated individually, clubwise and nationally. Mikel won for club and country but was never voted African best player. Kanu won for club and also African best player twice but never won the nations cup. Okocha won the nations cup but won nothing for club or individually. Yekini was an outstanding goalscorer but never played for any top club. In Cameroon Etoo has no comparison because he won everything.
mikel came second in 2013

You never watch kanu nwankwo play football.
The only trophy kanu nwankwo did not have is the Africa Nations cup and the world cup. Every other competition he played in,he has won them. From Netherlands to Italy and England.
Mikel is never close to kanu nwankwo, get your fact right.

u need Google den . Awon old man football follower
I don't need Google to tell me about a man I watched live over three world cups and almost his entire club career. Maradona was a proper 10, the fact he liked bombing forward to join the attack doesn't make him a forward. Frank lampard is another midfielder that likes attacking, he was so prolific that he is now Chelsea's highest goalscorer of all time. Does that make lampard a forward?

Do you think Mikel would have start in the teams and squad kanu nwankwo played in(both national team and club)
Mikel won't even make the bench

Ah.. it's obvious you started watching football when mourinho started coaching Chelsea.

He came off the bench and do the magic, he's a joker and an important player in the team.

Okocha remains the greatest
He excelled as a super eagles player, and is respected worldwide for his club performance even more than those who won trophies
Remains a well known star in every country he played
His performance is a worldwide spectacle

Kanu only did well at age grade
was a poor super eagles player

Mikel had a poor club carrier, never excelled as an individual star club wise

Okocha it is, no contest

Or he will bench viera, Gilberto Silva and petit.
Mikel is an average footballer, that's why he's not recognized in African even with all the trophy he won.
Kanu nwankwo is a legend and highly recognized anywhere in the world football.
Even in the last world cup he was recognized by FIFA.
