An OBJ has been on that scene since 1999 so if you're talking about influence, tinubu will be far behind. David Mark spent eight years as senate president while GEJ spent a cumulative of eight years as president and VP so if you mean national visibility as influence all these people are ahead of tinubu so far.

When you talk of legacies to the people, Awolowo had more to offer than Zik.
But when talking about party politics, strategising, lobbying and oratory, which is the core of politics, Zik had the upper hand.
Zik hobnobbed with the great Herbert Macauley which led to the domination of one of Africa's biggest party then. Zik conquered the east and modern day south south and was expanding his tentacles towards the west where Awolowo was still battling with a relatively unknown Akintola in the western house which Awo ultimately lost.
His appointment by Gowon as minister of finance was only to aggravate the Igbos and pacify the Yoruba so as to draw them closer to the nothern side in the fast approaching and seemingly inevitable civil war.
The political wings of Zik is spread around Africa and beyond and Awo is not match to that

There's a lot of things I agree with in your post. Awolowo was more of a knife edged politician. A transformational leader who believed his way was the best. He never excelled in the kind of horse trading or negotiations politicians like zik or Bello excelled at. Which is why he moved like a lone ranger. So, in terms of politics, you can be very correct in your analysis but in terms of leadership, he towers far above zik or Ahmadu Bello.

I'm not obsessed with OBJ and I don't know what you mean by accidental leader. OBJ is still the smartest and most widely recognised and respected democratic leader we've ever had as a nation. Consider that he hosted two sitting US presidents while Buhari for example is yet to host even a US vice president. The best he has gotten so far is the secy of state.

That Tinubu has produced more politicians is debatable but what is not debatable is the spread. You mentioned national politics. Most politicians from Tinubu's stable are south west, Lagos to be precise. OBJ's disciples are more diverse with spread all over Nigeria.

It is true that he's the only one standing from his class of 99 especially in terms of still holding his state by the jugular. I don't know if that counts in terms of national politics neither can it be counted as a plus for him.

As for those other achievements you counted, I think what has worked for him is actually being out of office and the massive financial chest at his disposal. None of those have any bearing on national politics. They are regional at best.

The only thing I can say about his popularity is that the baba wey cook am come follow fry am on top
