sydneyboss: This thing is simple. Adults can adhere to the rule cuz they know the consequences and everything. Kids don't care about all that. They can't practice social distancing. Just sit down reason this thing wella. |

Mrmourinho:Naturally, as a parent, you should be more concerned about the safety of your children than their education. When safety is ensured, you can always take care of their education. I really don't understand why some of you people are in such a haste to see schools reopened. Is it more than ABC and 123 that students learn in school? |

Eulalia: Shut the f*ck up. This is a very rare pandemic. It's affecting every sector world wide. The education sector will definitely be affected adversely. But we're talking of human life and safety here. You talk about how these things affect one sector or the other but don't care about the lives that will be lost. The reason some sectors of the country are being opened gradually is because the government believes they can keep with the social distancing rules. How can you expect kids to abide by the same rules in how schools. It's simply stupid. |

In as much I believe education is the bedrock of any development. However, I'm of the opinion that alot more still need to be done by the government before opening the school. One of the major condition that should be met before opening the school especially the primary and secondary is decline in the number of the confirmed cases. And for Nigeria with increasing cases despite the minute percentage of the total population tested so far and even the Minister of Health is already saying we are already overwhelmed with just below 10,000 confirmed cases is a clear evidence that as a country we can't afford to open all the schools particularly the elementary and secondary schools. This is a country where most of the public schools lack basic amenities as simple as running water, functional toilets and over crowded classes. We need to get our priorities right as a country. I know the value of education as I'm in the sector but our health facilities can't handle major outbreaks My humble recommendation for the government is to first continue to work harder to do more tests, continue to improve the medical facilities and open more treatments and isolation centers. And more importantly open up the economy. People sources of income are badly affected. It's only few percentage of the population that aren't affected by this unexpected pandemic. Even if you open schools, majority of the private schools need money to effectively run the school especially with all the necessary measures that must be put in place. Moreover the money will come from school fees and majority of the parents will not be able to meet up the bills as nobody envisage this crisis. Therefore, it advisable for government to open economy first, ensure the confirmed cases decline and put the necessary mowing the public schools so that all the necessary protocol to curb the further spread of this virus is put in place. They shouldn't be in a hurry to open the school. If possible let only those in exam classes (JSS3 and SS3) open this term and adopt the Ghana approach that the third term of the session be scrapped to resume fullest September. But in the mean time government can adopt such as radio and TV education for the public while the private schools who can afford online learning do their bit at moderate rate all in the bid to ensure our pupils and students are in tune with learning. |

Jokerman: If you argue about some Nigerians being unable to afford those kind of schools, you know that won't be a Coronavirus problem per se. The nation has a lot of underlying issues. The pandemic just came to add salt to the injury. Now, online lessons have gone beyond audio speeches, you can upload videos on ordinary WhatsApp. You can use zoom, Microsoft team, you can use Google classroom and you will be ok. |

[ quote author=Angelfrost post=90055550]If not stupidity and backwardness, what will your kids learn in school in 6 months that you can't teach them at home either via trusted home tutors and/or online teaching apps??!... Even if all school children lose a year and collectively repeat classes, will their lives end??!... Why do we constantly need to major on very minor things??! Is schooling more pressing than disease containment and economic resurgence??!... What a slow country!!![/quote] As in eh,I don't understand some people's logic, I can't even imagine little kids in isolation center, who is going to care for them?is it ncdc or health workers? just two months now they are chanting about opening of schools. |

It's of Great importance we revisit the basis of resumption. At the very height of the Pandemic, it's unreasonable to push for the reopening of schools. But truth be told the foundation that supports the existence of the outbreak in our Dear Country is a bit Faulty, the rising numbers of the victims of the pandemic are yet to be verified and made qualitative to the entire nation . At this very point it's insane to let the Education System of the country to be in shambles and unreasonable adjustment. if the System is to be put on a hold, its of great importance to ensure the learning spirit of every Nigerian Student is not killed or let to suffer a major set back in the mental capacity development. I stand to question to provision made to encourage the students while they are being asked to sit at home. The inability of the System to get a reasonable and profitable quota of attention leaves me to wonder if indeed the Government believes in the Power of learning. Since the start of the lock down, Few states have taken out time to create avenue for online learning. But it might become a thing of mockery if setting structures are not put in place. For example Do You expect a Student living in a rural area where power supply is epileptic and a thing of disgrace to actively benefit from the online lectures. In a Setting where the basic amenities are been provided to few, how do you expect the majority to follow a system of Foundational and educational development. first thing first, if online lectures should be put in place, the welfare and the environment checking of the student Must be first put into consideration. It's high time the country go back to the drawing board to reinvest and re sketch the drawings of our educational sector.. It's a thing of shame if A country as big as this can't successful promote online lectures. If Universities are to push for online lectures.. Certain criteria Should be looked into.. How prepared are the lecturers,How prepared are the students, How solid is the system. Are we sure educational facilities can be distributed vastly around the Country...How many of the students especially those from poor backgrounds have access to the Internet. With the year to year rise in the drop of students performance via lectures held in a lecture room, that menace have not been fixed yet.. And our various universities are clamoring for online lecture.. It's a pity. If we are to count effectively..its expected of us not to skip any number.. The foundation that has been set aside can never hold effectively the existence of online lecture, lets all pinch ourselves and wake up if we think the students will get the best from the system.. The Government have been leading without followers..they should expect passer byes to pay full attention to their dancing moves. To enact this structure, the educational system should be well budgeted and well invested to make sure we don't kill of the dreams of those that are ready to learn. EDUCATION REMAINS A FOUNDATION FOR BOTH THE POOR AND RICH TO BUILD ON. OKAFOR VICTOR .S(OVS) OVS FOUNDATION |

these parents are so funny o. if i may ask, what if the covid-19 has come to stay with us, what if the covid-19 cases keep on rising, will u let schools closed forever, don't u want to learn how to live with the virus, will you allow covid-19 to keep on ruling us. We are humans, we have to learn how to adapt to situations. Keeping schools closed will mean that we are unable to adapt, parents be responsible for your children, but know that education is the key. Keeping your children at home will not change anything but harm them, Western world don't play with education and that's why they're ahead of us. I see no need for you arguing on wether schools should resume or not, let's give it a trial and see the outcome, if it's safe we continue, if it's not we close them(schools) back. They are planning on allowing worship centers to function, if they allow them, won't your kids go to Sunday school? Won't they get infected in the church? Please stop complaining on schools reopening, but pray for God's intervention. 1 Like |

Shake your head all you want but at least get some comprehension skills while at it. These events are some people's livelihood too and they are not screaming because they know the consequences which school owners should know too. Students and parents are not the ones pressuring Government to open schools so what's it with the school owners and staff? You really think its because they care so much about educating the students? Those be benefiting financially from school system are calling for reopening, what about the health risk? our government leaning on reopening soon is one of the reasons people doubt wether there is covid19 in Nigeria . |
