The punishment is just too harsh for the offence. If this is true then the Lagos govt shld be sanctioned.

The owner of Hyundai Elantra 2008 model said he was arrested on November 10 for driving ‘one-way’ at Constain/Iponri Bridge, Surulere. He claimed that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) directed cars to ply ‘One-Way’ to ease traffic but was surprised he was arrested and arraigned before the mobile court while others were let go.

Spokesman for the task force, Taofeek Adebayo, said the exercise became necessary to punish offenders, with the aim of easing traffic on Lagos roads, adding that the action was not punitive but corrective in nature./

Tinubu is scouting for money anywhere and everywhere to fill his bullion vans ahead of his 2023 waterloo ambitions.
God help the suffering burden bearers who don’t have the stamina to challenge the rogues in court.

Bottom line is no matter what always be law abiding... it’s sad reading their stories, as some of them said it’s their only source of income. I just hope sanity will be restored in Lagos and government will make life easier on her citizens someday... cause since the #Endsars campaign ended prices of commodities went high, but no given up. We will continue to be steadfast till light shines on us.

The only way to sanction it is to get the courts involved, up to the Supreme Court if necessary.

This reminds me of a funny moment sometime ago.
Someone's car was impounded by the cops for something I can't remember now and he was to pay about 3k fine or so.

Dude simple dumped the car on them and bought another car for less than the 3k. cheesy

I feel for these guys though but lawlessness comes with a price.

It is done all over the world.
A judge can rule that you pay a fine for traffic, suspend your driving privileges, send you to jail, do community work or in some cases seize your car. Once your car is forfeited, the next thing is auction.
Its best to avoid one way etc.

A fine is too small for the greedy demon of Bourdillon.
Too small.
He must auction the vehicles to his NURTW agbero area boys to also keep them happy and useful for MC Oluomo’s installation as the next governor.

Oh yeah?

Seyi Makinde should do the same in Oyo state.

He can start in Elebu in Ibadan.

I am happy somebody mentioned Elebu.

The solution to that is simple. No need auctioning the cars.

Just impound and impose a N50,000 fine in addition to a medical certificate of mental fitness obtained from a state hospital for N30,000.

Do that to 20 people living in Elebu and the message will spread faster than the gospel.

Oyo govt is losing massive revenue there.

Probably Lagos feels fines have not been effective enough as a deterrent. So they had to go to the extreme to shock the system.

Do you live in Lagos? Most roads in Lagos are under construction. This is the major reason people take one way right now.

Wickedly, the law enforcement agents will be the one to direct you to follow the one way only to snap your car and block you in front.

Lagos is wicked and cursed

If it were my only means of survival, I will value it and be law abiding to avoid it being seized and auctioned.
There lies the deterrent.

This is absolute injustice. What happens to the options of :-
huge fines Or
impounding d cars for a period of time or
suspension of D/L?

Who gets d revenue? Lag govt? Or owner?

They just need money to recoup what was lost in the end Sars protest.

The road construction going on in Lagos is the major reason people take one way.

The thought of people is that these guys will understand the situation of things, only to be met with a shocker when their vehicles are impounded.

Sometimes, you may not even know that the road is one way. Some offenses should be considered properly before meting out punishment.

This is pure evil and wickedness

good. Nigerians are very stubborn and dont like obeying traffic laws. why would a driver drive 'one way'. he could have killed someone
Then fine him or send him to prison.

Auctioning a person's car because he broke traffic rules is not good at all.

This is a much better option to outright sale of seized cars within two weeks.
Sanwo-Olu needs to get a psychiatric evaluation and treatment.

Meanwhile N25,000 fine with N15,000 mental health assessment certificate that takes a long time to get should be enough deterrent for lawlessness.
Government is not simply about massive revenue. It is about a sane environment for everyone to flourish to their own potential.

Why waste money sending them to prison for minor traffic offences?
How about doing community service instead?
Is that not a more cost effective option
