Most of cars being auctioned are private ones not even commercials. I think there are some measures government should not take in any poverty-stricken country. Beside, auctioning of car is selective process. Unfair system is dangerous to peace.
Government is interested in making money not in solving traffic problems. There are better way of punishing traffic offenders not by subjecting more people to poverty.

This is man's inhumanity to man. Heavy fine is enough deterrent. I stopped using phone while driving after spending 22,000 to get my car back for using phone while driving.

Stop this Nigerian nonsense. Many of you haven't crossed the border but believe those on the other side are saints and it's you who is evil. Could have happened anywhere in the world.

This is rubbish.. How can the govt sell sumone car when he is not dead...

This news shud be fake..

Was the owner compensated or he got nothing?

Traffic offense, fine.. But no govt has the right to auction someone's car....

Bcox I disobey traffic law, one govt go kon sell my car... We die there
They will and nothing will happen. It's the law, the moment they take you to court, you're on the verge of losing your car. Better to bribe them on spot anyway

The law was made for people, this is inhuman.
You can't compare this to advanced countries where the system works, they have excellent road networks, good transportation system by rail, enjoy better basic amenities and standard of living is high.

This is a third world country where the government has failed the citizens, an average Nigerian acquire a fairly used old model car through sweat....and the punishment is to sell it when the whole system is decayed.

It is injustice, wicked and too harsh .

Just watch out the law enforcers will use this opportunity to extort the citizens, people will suffer pains in their hands. This is nigeria, this law will enrich some people and make many suffer that's why it is injustice
Do the right thing and avoid been a victim. Believe me, traffic laws are numerous with different punishment code, some are some are with just money fine while some is doing community service while some are heavy like losing your car to the government
Re: Tears As Lagos Government Auctions 44 Vehicles For Traffic Offences by Godsonkemz(m): 6:53am On Nov 27, 2020
This is totally unfair and injustice. Why not fine them 50k for their offenses if govt wants to correct the defaulters rather than impounding and auctioning off their vehicles which I consider not just as punitive but also wickedness.

It is done all over the world.
A judge can rule that you pay a fine for traffic, suspend your driving privileges, send you to jail, do community work or in some cases seize your car. Once your car is forfeited, the next thing is auction.
Its best to avoid one way etc.

It should be done if government is responsible. Irresponsible government should not be harsh on irresponsible citizens.

So if the person had knocked down your family member because he or she drove against traffic you won't be saying this
They should not only sell their car, they should arrest them for homicide

This is wrong on so many levels. Heavy fine has proven to be more effective and long lasting. Getting traffic offenders to pay like 200k is way better because after paying such amount, they won't commit the offence ever again. Selling their vehicles in front of them is pure wickedness, they hussled and took loans to get that only to lose it in a day just like that. Our politicians and law enforcement agent break the law but i don't see anyone selling their cars. We are suffering in this country
I'm sure they must have been fined before the got to this point. I'm pretty sure they got a fine and felt they will pay at anytime they feel like. Now it's too late

How do you seize people's car for a mere traffic offences and auction them? why? it's never done anywhere. And don't tell me it's the law , cause the law is an ass. If I were one of the owners of the car I will trace the buyer to their locations and take my vehicle from them by stealing it. what nonsense

There should have been a lesser penalty like one hundred thousand naira fine.

This is too harsh joor.
Imagine just acquiring a range or is the penalty for smaller cars?

It's very harsh indeed because what they suppose to do is fine them a certain amount of money for their wrong doing and the only reason why they can auction their vehicle is if they can't come up with the amount they ask them to pay for the fine which I believe most of them if not all will be able to pay.

It's sad to see your hard earned property being auctioned. Not in this harsh economy where you toil to earn a living. Always try to obey laws.

I process tinted permit, registration of new/used vehicles and renewal of expired vehicle documents. Kindly check my signature for contact. Thanks!

Obviously you are neither a Lagosian not understand their acts.

Those buyers were fake... It was a plan between the auctioneer and the fictitious buyers to hike the auction far from the reach of the owner to fleece them of their properties while paying a far lesser amount behind the scene and bribe the organizers with small amount of money.

Btw, I have never heard of such draconian law in my lifetime where you will be robbed of your car because of traffic offence.....

Can the car owners apply to court of appropriate jurisdiction to get an injunction stopping their cars from being actioned instead of trying to buy back what legally belong to them.

I just know that no one is save in this country any longer.

At last sanity will return to Lagos roads.

Government should continue to sell seized vehicles.

Nigerians especially Lagosians are notoriously stubborn.

Unfortunately they were caught. Don't get caught too.

The truth is that Lagos gets more like a jungle everyday. Look at how NURTW hijacked the endsars protest that was supposed to draw our FGs attention to the irresponsibility of some policemen. Now NURTW makes driving on the roads very difficult. Okadas have completely invaded Lagos and moving around more cumbersome. Thuggery now is the order of the day.

If our society must get better then we need to get disciplined and be law abiding.
It's quite painful losing a property in that manner, but the truth is that many drivers will sit up.

My only disagreement here is that the major violators of the law are the public bus drivers. Is the government of Lagos scared of them? Lastma officials seem to collect bribes from them and let them off the hook. The danfos, koropes, Kekes and Okadas should be seized and publicly auctioned as a deterrent to other members of their association.

Lagos roads also need to be fixed. We are approaching two years of this administration and yet we have not witnessed that much meaningful impact on the roads.
