i understand that the pope need to preach to convert them to Christianity, just like Paul did.
but the world has evolved beyond all that.
it was easy for Paul to take argument into the synagogue of the Jews in those days because, in his days he was among the privileged few educated men.
but today, it is not like that.
people of this generation have become more knowledgeable, we are very happy for that change, it is beneficial to all.
but it makes mere preaching less effective.
if Christianity is truly the better religion, which i believe, then let christians shine their light for others to see and glorify God.
your general attitude towards unbelievers has the power to covert them than mere preaching, people are not fools anymore,
they want to see what Christianity offer, as compared to their local religion.
conviction don't just come by listening anymore, it comes by observation.
by the Grace of God, thousands of non christians are getting convinced on their own, without anybody telling them anything about Christ, i. know what i am talking, if you have travelled to the US, you will see a lot of things.
recent study has indicated that the world's christian population has grown up to 6.64% in the past one decade.
all though we are not here to count people.
i believe, the process of changing the world should be at God's pace, we shouldn't fight people to change, let them judge by themselves.
killings and persecution is a sign that Christianity is doing well. because, it is frustration that makes people carry arms to fight, to advance and impose their religious ideology to people.
i wount encourage any christian to do that.
rather, let our light shine, and the only way we can shine is to change our ways.
there are so much atrocities in Christianity as I'm talking to you

To start with your statements; "world has evolved beyond all that" and "people of this generation have become more knowledgeable" are excuses proponents of homosexuality put forward to support their immoral behaviors. I agree the world has changed, culture have evolved, information is ubiquitous and there is more freedom to live as we please. One thing hasn't changed. God hasn't changed. Our God is the same God he was during Paul's generation, His word is still active and living, sharper than any two edged sword...it discerns the very intents of our heart.

Paul was an apostle to the gentile world and not the Jews. The gentile (majorly Greeks and Romans) were more knowledgeable and advance than the Jews. But we didn't see Paul entering their pagan shrines all in the name of converting them. He stood his ground, he didnt compromise. When Paul went to Ephesus he didn't enter the temple of their goddess before the Ephesians believed in him and burnt all their pagan books and stuffs. The Pope claims to be from the line of the Apostles, why isn't he following the examples laid down by his predecessors? Oh! the world has evolved right?

Yes I agree with you that people want to see what Christianity offers, if i were born a Muslim i would also want to see what Christianity would offer me. But I don't think the way to show what we offer as Christians is to show the world that we support their pagan worship because we as Christians are tolerant. If thousands of people are converting to Christianity its because they gave room for the Holy Spirit to convince them, I don't think they would be converted by seeing the Pope worship in a mosque (even if you claim he was worshiping Jehovah). This would rather confuse their new found love for Christ.

Judaism wasn't a popular culture during the time of Moses to the reign of David down to the last King that went on exile to Babylon. When Jesus came and brought the new covenant, Christianity still wasn't a popular religion, the disciples were killed, jailed and beaten. they didn't compromise their faith. Why should our own generation compromise? Why should we run to their place of worship just because we want them to stop killing us? We are making the devil to rejoice by doing this.

May God bless the soul of all the true Christians who have lost their lives in the North and every other part of the world.

my church is not Catholic, but i have to say the truth the way it applies practically.
be not equally yoked together with unbelievers. do not imply that christians should not make friends to non christians. it says, christians should not worship other gods.
the pope didn't go to the mosque to worship God through Muhammad , he went there to signify his solidarity to Islam. and to encourage Muslims to worship their Allah, he did it by bowing.
if you still think the act of bowing is the same thing as worship, then you should have a rethink, because, right from the day christ ressurected, and in christianity, worship has gone beyond mere act. worship (also known as to worship in spirit and in truth ) simply means to live your life in a state of grace by believing in Jesus, that he is the coming Messiah. john 4:23
which the pope himself has accepted,
no amount of bowing down can change that

But the Bible says if ur liberty would make a brother that Christ died for to fall, you should restrain yourself. The pope's liberty of worship would make others to shake in faith. Tell me, can the pope freely call the name of Jesus Christ in that mosque?

And I still think our opinion differs, from the tone of ur write ups, it seems to me you believe we serve the same God. Well i respect your opinion on that. But i don't think we serve the same God and that is why I keep asking myself why the pope had to encourage a muslim to continue to serve his Allah, shouldn't the pope be converting them to Christ? (And by converting I don't mean demeaning and insulting their faith.)

Don't get me wrong I respect muslims, I have relatives that are Muslims, I respect their religion but I don't accept it. If they could also respect our faith in Christ and stop killing us, the world would be a better place. But this ain't gonna happen, they persecuted Christ, so a true believer should also expect persecution.

if he comes back to the church, that means, that act of bowing down to shrine was not act of worship, but just a sign to pass one message,
that he as a christian, is not in a fight with any babalawo and his religion,
that everybody in the world have the right to practice any religion in the world, be it babalawo or anything.
but if he continues with the babalawo and do not come back to the church there after, that means, he has been converted into babalawo worship, away from Christianity.
in that case, i will conclude that, that is his choice, it will not in anyway affect the usual relationship i use to have with him outside religion

Bravo! Good for you. You and your church are very compatible. Anyways I should to follow the instruction of the bible; I won't be unequally yoked with unbelivers.

And am glad the pope only represents Catholics and not the christian world.

exactly, the pope is not representing anybody's opinion, but what he want is justice to all mankind, irrespective of their sexual orientation.
don't equate insurgency and hitler's atrocities to human's sexuality, it does not follow.
i mean, insurgency and killings have negative impact to other people.
if your neighbors are practising homosexuality inside their house, how does it affect you negatively?
let those who want to eat snake meat eat their snake meat as much as you want to eat cow meat.
if snake meat kills them, then it is their choice, it will not affect you

Alright, I understand your point. Well all am saying is that homosexuality is not right in the sight of God. If u masturbate in ur room, it neither affects the society but I know God doesn't accept such act.

Back to the topic, its wrong for the pope to enter a mosque all in the name of peace. Except you also believe we serve the same God and we probably have different opinions as regards this.

I sometimes back then use to doubt islam and i couldn't trust christianity either but a while later i made some researcher and Revealed to me the truth and some signs i discoved even made my faith stronger. A tsunami invade a country everything was destroyed except for the mosques in the country. A boy was born with quran. A tree in posture of performing solat. Allah's name appeared on a tomato. A tree that forms allah's name and so many. My advice is stick to the religion you belive in be it islam christianity or traditional it's your faith in God and your deeds that will judge you when the great day comes. The truth someone who doesn't believe in God can make it to heaven it's all by the grace of God. Period!

Hmmmm! Well, as Christians, what makes our faith strong is not looking for external or natural proofs, its what God does within you.

1 Corinthians 1:22-23 ASV

Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom: but we preach Christ crucified, unto Jews a stumblingblock, and unto Gentiles foolishness;

So basically, what am saying is that a true christian doesn't need bizarre signs to believe in Jehovah.

By the way my brother's wife asked me to help her buy cow leg while passing by ipaja today on my way from work and lo and behold while I was at the market buying, a man apparently the husband of one of the sellers dragged a market womanout by her cloth where she was selling her fried rice ingredients. I couldn't believe my eyes, I thought it was a joke not until he brought out cane in the broad day light beating a woman of 38 to 39 years . I was so disgusted . The irritating part of the whole show was that one woman yelled and said what's all this madness all about when you know that you are in the market. The husband acted like he didn't hear and continued beating her and then a young guy who was part of the audience watching the whole drama told the other woman who asking the man to stop being violent saying in yoruba what's your own, is it you they are beating instead of you to mind your wares you are doing gbeborun.

However the only thing that pained me was that my phone battery was dead I didn't charge it if not I for don upload am for this thread . I am putting myself in that tailors shoe so I understand where she is coming from. She knows the owner of the cloth will not take it easy with her and the so called old man won't be there when she's receiving insults however I don't subscribe to violence. And that is the only thing the woman did wrong but I support every form of insult the man received

Alumni and authority of OAU need to talk sense into the current & future students of that great school. This was the same treatment meted out to obasanjo BEFORE he became president in 1999 & the same thing being done to the incumbent & visitor to d university. For that singular act on OBJ, he never liked OAU throughout his reign as the visitor to the university. If GEJ does the same to u tomorrow, don't accuse him of marginalization o.
I remember how Abdul salam was celebrated when we were celebrating UIs golden jubilee. He was so celebrated that he could hardly walk into Trenchard hall. The man was so happy that he promised UI a new hall of residence which now accomodates PG students.
OAU students should know that not every federal university gets to host the president in spite of the fact that he's their visitor. Moreover, the motto of Ife says "for learning & culture". It's cultural to give honour to whom honour is due.

@the bolded, is honour due to GEJ?

No, I aint joking,
These are the banks I do business with First Bank, GTB, Zenith and I went through the same routine while opening these accounts.
Got the form, filled it, gave it back with my passport and utility bill, sat down and waited while she did her work, one hour is even too much, in less than 40 mins I was given my acct no and told to go and pay in some cash into the acct.

While I was serving, I was given Union bank, jst filled the form, gave it back still at the LGA, traveled immediately, came back after one month and met an envelop with my acct details and atm.

Even when I opened an acct in a community bank, I didn't go there more than once, I got the withdrawal booklet

About the Cashless policy isshh, you are still allowed to do your usual bank transactions only that there is a limit when it comes to withdrawal of funds, and if that limit is exceeded, charges are incurred by the customer.

Like in your case, with or without the cashless policy, whether your first allawwee was paid in cash or wired, you'll still have to go through the same strenuous process of withdrawing ur cash with subsequent payments.

Cool. We used union bank too and it took a week bro. But I get you. I still think for the sake of the less privileged corp members, they shud get paid in cash for their first allowed.

In any case if its gonna be their new way now, prospective corp members should know now and make contigency plans. Most pple would have spent dt first allowee on local fare. I had friends who spent all the allowee moving from one PPA to another all because the principals kept rejecting them. Imagine if dt allowed wasn't there for them to use, would they have relied on the 1500 local fare?

Cashless policy doesn't mean you won't have physical cash in hand.

Lies, it doesn't take even up to an hour to open an account in any commercial bank once you have the required documentations.

Talkless of an NySC account that doesn't requires any documents b4 opening an account

I didn't say it was fair, it is actually wrong,
My issh was abt the fact dt sum peeps said it had to be paid in cash.
Whether paid in cash or wired, I am of the opinion that they shuld be paid b4 leaving camp.

Note# States wr the cashless policy are yet to be implemented are paid in cash at the camp.

So 4 this case who has to take the fall for this,
FG, CBN or NYSC?

Are you joking? I don't want to believe u r serious. It actually took me more than a week to get my account details. Which bank would give you account details within an hr? shocked

Now imagine your PPA is in Ikorodu and you have to go to Maryland to withdraw, that's if you want to use atm. That's was how we do it every pay day, and we don't know when we will get paid.

Dude cashless policies would work in pH but not in Rivers state. So many undeveloped areas in Rivers.

Now to the topic, the military doesn't do such protests and nysc is considered technically as a paramilitary. Nysc didn't say they won't be paid their money but that they should go to their respective LG of posting first and its not the first time its happening or are the others fools?
They have laws that guide them in nysc, they have the camp court to go to in case they have grievances.
What should be noted is that their money will be given to them and its not law that cash has to be given to them in camp.
Now they have the freedom to protest but not that kin of protest. All thesame, you can see their protest as the right thing to do, I differ from that and the last time I checked I have the righht to not reason like you. But if you still have a problem with it, you can go to hell. For your information, Rivers state govt doesn't pay state allowance until after one year or more when you are no longer a corper, the question is, will they protest that too?

OK, I hope you know the military get paid before all civil servanta in Nigeria, their salaries are never delayed.so if you say NYSC is paramilitary, they should be paid promptly too.

Rivers State NYCS is very dubious, I just don't trust them.

But since the last batch of 2013, due to the cashless policy it is no longer paid in cash.

How can someone in his/her right senses, in a strange land finish all the physical cash they have on them.

That's crap. Rivers state is not ready for that cashless nonesnse. Some LGs don't have a single bank. I know of Etche and Adonnin and its not everyone that brings money to camp; some couldn't just afford to

Now u send them to their respective LGs were the bank would take at least a week to open their account, if you are lucky the senior corp members would feed you for some days then after that OYO.

Its just not fair for them not to be paid cash.
