Politics / Re: NIMC Charging 15,000 Naira For Modification Of Date Of Birth? by rhamz: 11:47pm On Jan 11, 2019
My own case is different. Nimc wants to punish me because they have a BVN database last updated in 2015.
My DOB was wrongly captured by my bank during bvn registration which i didnt know until 2016 when i wanted to open an account with another bank.I had my DOB corrected on the bvn platform by the bank that made the mistake since 2016.
i registered on Nimc platform in 2016 and was issued a slip. Every time i had the opportunity to get to their office, they tell me the card/Slip isnt ready. i was at their office in Lagos to check again last week and i was told i had to re-register.

i was surprised because i could see my details on their computer. The officer then directed me to another officer when my questions were getting to much. The other officer confirmed my details on their platform using my BVN and even wrote out my NIN for me, but still insisted that i had to re-register because my bvn records had issues on their platform

i had to fill another form and proceeded to get re-registered. After few hours it was my turn to get captured and i was now told that the DOB i have on my form is different from what is obtainable on the bvn platform. I told the officer what happened and explained that it was already resolved but i was surprised when i was told that the bvn records with NIMC is as at 2015 and so no update on bvn reflects on their platform and that People who got enrolled on bvn platform after bvn records where downloaded for Nimc in 2015 cannot register for the national identity card for now.

i was now directed to read the attached internal memos. Why should i pay 15k when i have already been issued NIN ? i have everything requested for to update the DOB including my old National Identity card but i dont 15k to pay.

dayolove:
The OP is not lying. N15,000 is the official approved fee for date of birth modification while N500 is for minor changes/modifications like change of name due to marriage, family decision, religious considerations, etc. You also pay N500 to reprint your loss of NIN slip. The truth is that before now, date of birth was what we call unupdatable field because you can only be born once but along the line, we discovered there were few people with genuine need to effect changes for obvious reasons which the Commission will investigate properly before deciding to accede to the request or not.

The N15,000 for change of date of birth is mainly to discourage such requests and it is only limited to once in a lifeime. Even when the date is eventually changed as paying the amount is not a guarantee of getting it change, the Commosion still keep track of the initial change made but shows the recent changes should there be need for further investigations.

On what you have on the websites the, it was for modification strictly for change of name and other details and not for change of birth as prior to this time, change in date of birth was not even permitted.

Many Nigerians have up to five 5 dates of birth depending on what they intend to use it for. Some are not able to remember the one they used for immigration, FRSC, CBN, police, etc recruitment and as such with the harmonization of the different databases going on, some of these lies come to the open and you one now need NIMC, being the sole repository of biometric databases as directed by the FG to attempt to clear some of these messes.

With NIMC now, you lie once and learn to live with the lie for life. Avoid using different dates of birth and other fraudulent practices with your bio data. It is seriously frowned at by the embassies and could lead to permanent denial of entry visas, etc. the FG is trying to ensure oneness and avoid unnecessary duplications so the system can be trusted and verifiable.

The NIN is the most important and unique identifier required by all, Nigerians and legal residents to maintain and regulate a reliable system of identity management and not just card issuance like before. Please go get yours. The National Identity Smart Card will come later as many people get registered into the national identity database.

You can email me on loveday.ogbonna@nimc.gov.ng should you require further clarification or have any questions regarding the NAtional Identity Management System

Churches can be taxed as it was held in Sodipo & Ors v FBIR  (1974)

where it was held that where a Church organised and incorporated a company that carries on the business of dealing in real estates, the company is liable to pay tax on rent collections.

Thus, 30 percent is the tax rate imposed on the profits of any company accruing in, derived from, brought into or received in Nigeria (see section 8 CITA). The species of profits envisaged under CITA include profits from any trade or business for whatever period of time such trade or business may have been carried on; rent or any premium arising from a right granted to any other persons for the use or occupation of any property; dividends, interest, discounts, royalties, charges or annuities; fees, dues and allowances (wherever paid) for services, etc. On the other hand, it must be noted that there are species of profits which are not included and thus not taxable, for instance the profits of any company engaged in ecclesiastical, charitable or educational activities of a public character in so far as such profits are not derived from a trade or business carried on by such company. However, where a institution under the guise of charitable purposes carries on a profitable business it cannot thereby avoid or evade payment of tax on the profits from such a business

@Rhamz, party and individual are one and the same, anyone who tells you contrary is trying to deceive you. As long as the person is not an independent candidate, we all vote for parties. let us go and give PDP backhand slap tomorrow

Voting for individuals will let us have a multi-party represention at all levels, which will let politicians know that winning party primaries (arrangee/annointment/selection/imposition) doesnt equate winning at the polls. it is what the person represents not the party manifesto

Politics / Re: Bomb Scare At Motorways Center In Lagos by rhamz: 9:54pm On Jan 06, 2011
Over 1000 people were hurriedly evacuated from the Motorways Complex at Old Tollgate, Lagos State , South West Nigeria when rumour of a bomb scare spread through the complex.

There was pandemonium as Lagosians working in the complex hurriedly scampered to safety. The building houses over 45 companies, including two banks. Commercial activities in the complex were paralysed.

The bomb scare episode was ignited following an anonymous note found in a toilet of one of the companies’ resident in the complex warning that a bomb would explode in the building in the next six hours.

Anti-bomb policemen, members of the State Security Services, SSS raced to the scene and immediate evacuated the remaining occupants of the building and sealed it up while effort to find where the supposed bomb was located proved abortive.

The rumour about the bomb had spread across the complex around 2.00 p.m on Thursday.

People intending to go into the premises to transact businesses were turned back as the complex was condoned off by the police.

A staff of Office of the Public Defender, OPD told PM NEWS that they were asked to leave the complex when the news of the rumoured bomb scare spread.

Another source stated that the anonymous note found in one of the toilets was signed by an unknown group which described itself as Concerned Nigerians, while calling for evacuation of everyone in the building.

The note, it was gathered did not specify where the bomb was planted. It only said that the explosive due to explode was planted in one of the offices.

Some of the workers were seen gathered in groups discussing the incident. While some doubted the authenticity of the note, others did not ignore the warning.

This is the second time in four days that rumours of bomb scare would spread in the Lagos metropolis after the Jos and Abuja bombing episodes.

Efforts to get to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Lagos Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba to comment on the development proved abortive as calls to his handset were not picked.

A source in the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NIFIU) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja disclosed that the trip to Saudi Arabia would cost $15 million, with six Ministers and two aides each spending an average $2.5 million per person.

“With a hotel bill of about $1,500 per head in a five star hotel in Riyadh, you would get $27,000 per individual, then multiply that with the number of days they would spend.”

Another source at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), who confirmed that the delegation would travel on a Presidential jet, said it would cost over $1.5 million to fly the aircraft to Saudi Arabia and back.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Ramadan Kareem To Every Muslim by rhamz: 2:29pm On Aug 31, 2008
Wa alaikum Salam,Fasting does not mean merely abstaining from eating and drinking so lets not forget those things that are required from us during dis month and after
(1) Performing the other acts of worship and duties, and Salat in particular, without which no other act of worship is accepted by Allah. Praying in congregation is a great aspect in our religion.

(2) Refraining from bad behavior such as lying, cheating, smoking, backbiting and slandering others to create animosity among them. The Prophet (peace be on him) said: "No slanderer shall enter the Jannah."

(3) Be extraordinarily cautious in using the senses, the mind, especially, the tongue; to abstain from careless and gossipy chats and avoid all suspicious motions.A fasting person preserving the purity of the fast should not be involved in talking behind others, intrigues, aspersions, vilifications, lies, altercations, name-callings and swearing as well as perjuries.

(4) It is advisable as Sunna that a fasting person spends most of his time reading the Holy Qur'an, devoting himself to worship and offering in close perception of Allah. Increase your remembrance of Allah, and recitation of Qur'an and listening to it, and contemplation of its meanings. Act on it and attend the beneficial discussions in the mosques, and practice I'tikaf in the Masjid at the end of Ramadan (this is Sunnah).

May ALLAH make them easy for us, Amin

Politics / Oh God Please Sos From The Nigerian Police Force by rhamz: 3:03am On Aug 11, 2008
The Nigerian Police force slogan is “To Protect and Serve with Integrity” but what many don’t know is that it includes “To Harass and Embarrass”. In as much as i know the police are for the prevention of crime and enforcement of law, these group of people in Nigeria are annoying human beings given legal powers by govt who prefers to ignore the officers (97% of the police force) whose behaviours do not conform with wat they stand for.
The masses are on their own (OYO) and that is why so many pple ave different stories to tell abt the Nigerian police force. Recently I ave been asked new embarrassing questions by these officers.
(1)From where?
(2)Where u de go?
(3)Wetin u wan go do 4 der?
(4)etc

I ave also been harassed lately. I was stopped at a police check point and the officers were only interested in searching my wallet, pocket, phn contacts and phn text messages not even the vehicle’s documents. After some argument with them i let go of my phn only to be asked ques like
(1) Who be dis person?
(2) Which work dis person de do?
(3) How u take know dis person?
(4) etc
Then I began to wonder if this is a new technique of fighting crime or it is a new silent directive from the IG to start harassing pple especially males (boy, guy, man). For years I ave knwn the police of asking ques like
(1) wetin u carry?
(2) Where ur particulars?
(3) Where ur fire extinguisher?
(4) Where ur C-caution?
(5) Where ur engine number for dis motor?
(6) Etc

It’s like they no longer get “KOLA” from asking these again so they ave resulted in harassing, embarrassing and even provoking the civilians instead of begging for alms like they are used to. Recently a friend of mine was detained for “assault of an officer” after he was slapped by the police officer and he retaliated. His house was searched before he was released on bail. He was charged to court but we settled out of court becos in Nigeria the police is always right and they are always above the law. There numerous cases of pple being killed indiscriminately everyday by the police officers and the Nigerian Police Service Commission does nothing to address this. We are at the mercy of GOD. Now pple don’t even know when to stop at check points anymore becos the police and thieves now ave the same mode of operation. We sure need GOD to SOS from the hands of the Nigerian Police force.
