Judging from the blast, I'd say the munition used was probably an RBK-500. Very powerful bomb.

Could well be.

yes ofc it does they Egyptian army is having a big issues in Sanai and they have to change their tactics and training to adapt to that... compared to their capabilities the Egyptians are failing big time there but that's due to the fact that because of camp David agreement the Egyptians had no right to deploy there army in Sinai until recently so their armed groups got out hands even before the revolution... the problem with the Egyptians they rely a lot on conscripts more so than regular soldiers and well trained ones and as I said they have all the means to succeed but still they fail because they're very slow at adapting.

Exactly why the Nigerian Armed Forces have been restructuring in the past few years with creation of more specialised units as they had no experience of COIN/CT warfare. It takes years to get the desired result, hence there are more successes in the last few weeks/months. Also, with more specialised equipment arriving, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Nigerian Navy Fleet Recapitalization.

Under Capital Ships

NNS Unity
NNS Lana
Nigerian Navy LST

Which other ship is the Navy referring to?

There are other projects of the Nigerian Navy waiting to be inspected in Germany, South Africa, UK & US, so who knows what is expected.

honestly Nigeria have to rebuild and restructure its army this is very bad... this is not how you fight in a war...

Apart from that video being an old one, would this video below of the Egyptian Army be enough to call for restructuring?

See example below of a country having to deal with internal COIN/CT problems and not foreign armies going to other countries for a few months or years then running away.

More examples of longstanding tactical frailties in North Sinai: No security, zero situational awareness, unarmed, abstaining from protective equipment, and poor reaction to enemy fire.

How do you know they know more than me.

Do not presume about others.

If you lack understanding, have limited exposure or the required experiential knowledge, then speak for yourself.

You really have no idea.

Keyboard warrior strikes again. Go and enlist and show them. You don't know me as well nor do you know the constraints that are having to be dealt with by the military. You're the one with limited knowledge about COIN/CT warfare, so don't come here pretending otherwise. All talk from textbooks.

Imagine a rag tag bunch of illiterate rudimentary drug addicted fanatics armed with improvised weaponry holding the whole of a nation to ransome. With its HARDENED SOLDIERS.

A situation where the Governor and elected representatives for years do not have full access to the state and all spatial infrastructure of government.

Keyboard warriors who are educated knowledgeable, innovative and informed have a lot more to offer than you may imagine or cannot imagine.

In modern warfare it is not brawn over brains. But Intelligence and Innovation.

Keyboard warrior. You don't know more than the military. Go and look at how the Egyptian military with all their shiny toys are struggling with IS in the Sinai.

Amazing. You get keyboard warriors telling hardened soldiers what they require or don't require on the battlefield. Soldiers need to be mobile so having LAVs is preferable to Hilux technicals. Not every scenario requires MRAPs. Besides, we don't know all the equipment being used and what is expected.

Additional notes. It is always when progress is being made they appear. Never well done soldiers, always criticism to put a dampener on everything.

If you have seen the movie Lone Survivor, if the way the Chinook was shot down in the movie is the way it was really shot down, no helicopter can survive it

Yeah! It was RPG through the rear ramp as they were coming in to disembark. It was called a lucky shot. Helicopters' main and tail rotors are very susceptible to RPG rounds as well and even concentrated firepower on any point on the aircraft.

I think the Air Force requires 4 more units of Bell 412. The aircraft seems to be a proper work horse.

You can never have enough helicopters. More tactical troop carrying and utility helos are needed like yesterday.

they have armour plating, but that's just protective glass for the pilot, fuel tank sheilding and reinforced swashplate. all these will succumb to machine and assault calibre. even the apache avoids infantry fire by all means possible. helicopters require more power per mass than planes. no aircraft is bullet proof they just leverage on altitude, speed and manverablity.

No helicopter is completely safe, no matter how well protected, that was why the initial criticism of the heli was unwarranted. These are the same helicopters that have been used by the NAF in the NE for operations since inception, and again, they did their job. If it wasn't suitable for the role, it won't be used.

An American Chinook was shot down by RPG with SF on board some years back in Afghanistan during an attempted rescue and killed all on board.

It came from a civilian source. armoring on civil aircraft will only stop handguns. A direct automatic fire will penetrate it. ak rounds and machine gun cartridges are very powerful. they'll easily tear through.

"The two helicopters were handed over to the NAF on 27 January 2017 after they were seized on 7 November 2016 when the importer could not produce end user certificates. They were originally destined for Rivers State to protect oil and gas facilities and were equipped with night vision equipment, armour plating and cameras. They were supposed to bypass import duties. The new helicopter will be deployed to the Northeast as part of the efforts to strengthen the counterterrorism campaign against Boko Haram."

They were manufactured with armour plating.

It just shows their true intent. They haven't got the boys' interests at heart really.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by rka1: 5:14pm On Dec 18, 2020
For any one interested, the information from 'Uncle Deji', who is very reliable on security matters, is that the tape of the boys was sent to BH by the bandits during the negotiation to hand them over to them, but were frustrated by the NA and other security services that surrounded their location making the handover virtually impossible.

Make of that as you may.

Why are you all giving yourselves HBP? The boys were kidnapped and have now been freed whatever way it happened. Be happy if you were really concerned about them and not merely aggrieved they are free for other reasons.
