fachfouch: Exactly why the Nigerian Armed Forces have been restructuring in the past few years with creation of more specialised units as they had no experience of COIN/CT warfare. It takes years to get the desired result, hence there are more successes in the last few weeks/months. Also, with more specialised equipment arriving, there is light at the end of the tunnel. 4 Likes |

See example below of a country having to deal with internal COIN/CT problems and not foreign armies going to other countries for a few months or years then running away. Egypt Defence Review @EgyptDefReview Jan 9 More examples of longstanding tactical frailties in North Sinai: No security, zero situational awareness, unarmed, abstaining from protective equipment, and poor reaction to enemy fire. https://twitter.com/i/status/1347940005176614915 |

komekn: Keyboard warrior strikes again. Go and enlist and show them. You don't know me as well nor do you know the constraints that are having to be dealt with by the military. You're the one with limited knowledge about COIN/CT warfare, so don't come here pretending otherwise. All talk from textbooks. |

Amazing. You get keyboard warriors telling hardened soldiers what they require or don't require on the battlefield. Soldiers need to be mobile so having LAVs is preferable to Hilux technicals. Not every scenario requires MRAPs. Besides, we don't know all the equipment being used and what is expected. Additional notes. It is always when progress is being made they appear. Never well done soldiers, always criticism to put a dampener on everything. The 5th columnists on this thread enh! 10 Likes |

Since when is it okay for people to come on a thread to insult people who are minding their own business following their interests? It is just plain bullying & trolling. If you don't like people loving the military go and hug a transformer You will not succeed. We will continue to love the military. Go and create your own thread and let me help you with a name to attract the dregs "we hate Nigerian Military with all our might - duscuss". Bunch of frustrated ingrates. 10 Likes 1 Share |

BabaOwen: Yeah! It was RPG through the rear ramp as they were coming in to disembark. It was called a lucky shot. Helicopters' main and tail rotors are very susceptible to RPG rounds as well and even concentrated firepower on any point on the aircraft. 1 Like |

Faithful007: No helicopter is completely safe, no matter how well protected, that was why the initial criticism of the heli was unwarranted. These are the same helicopters that have been used by the NAF in the NE for operations since inception, and again, they did their job. If it wasn't suitable for the role, it won't be used. An American Chinook was shot down by RPG with SF on board some years back in Afghanistan during an attempted rescue and killed all on board. |

Faithful007: "The two helicopters were handed over to the NAF on 27 January 2017 after they were seized on 7 November 2016 when the importer could not produce end user certificates. They were originally destined for Rivers State to protect oil and gas facilities and were equipped with night vision equipment, armour plating and cameras. They were supposed to bypass import duties. The new helicopter will be deployed to the Northeast as part of the efforts to strengthen the counterterrorism campaign against Boko Haram." They were manufactured with armour plating. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/military-helicopters/nigerian-air-force-commissions-second-bell-412-into-service/ 1 Like |

For any one interested, the information from 'Uncle Deji', who is very reliable on security matters, is that the tape of the boys was sent to BH by the bandits during the negotiation to hand them over to them, but were frustrated by the NA and other security services that surrounded their location making the handover virtually impossible. Make of that as you may. 2 Likes |

Why are you all giving yourselves HBP? The boys were kidnapped and have now been freed whatever way it happened. Be happy if you were really concerned about them and not merely aggrieved they are free for other reasons. 6 Likes |
