Msauza: You know more than the CoAS abi? The over 200 girls were kidnapped from their hostels at the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State on April 14 2014. Mr. Minimah also denied that Nigeria hired mercenaries to fight Boko Haram. He said there are only military advisers and instructors meant to maintain the newly-acquired security equipment. “Whenever you have new equipment, the equipment come with contract and the contract include maintenance and the technicians that come with them are those that we hire,” he said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/178639-nigerian-military-found-no-sign-of-chibok-girls-in-recaptured-territories-army-chief.html 2 Likes |

Looks like SA could have done with the mechanics contracted by Nigeria Cuban technicians bringing SA Army trucks back to life Written by Guy Martin, Monday, 16 March 2015 Cuban mechanics assisting SA Army mechanics.Almost a hundred Cuban technicians are working with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to maintain and preserve Army, Air Force and SA Military Health Service equipment, with the Cuban technicians already working on refurbishing 130 Army trucks. Ninety-three Cuban technicians arrived in South Africa last month, including nine with the SA Army’s 102 Field Workshop in Potchefstroom. At the moment Samil trucks from Wallmansthal are being refurbished but other vehicles may be repaired at a later stage. 130 vehicles have been earmarked for refurbishment but the SANDF is looking at overhauling 250 trucks. Three vehicles have been completely refurbished so far with others in the works. The first vehicle, a Samil 20, had 250 hours of work done on it involving the engine, differentials, electrical system, pneumatic system, bodywork etc. Technical maintenance repairs are being done in Potchefstroom while a Cuban detachment in Bloemfontein is looking at storage and preservation of vehicles. There is another team in Pretoria examining preservation procedures. The Cubans were invited to South Africa on a year-long contract to both refurbish vehicles and assist the SANDF build capacity and train mechanics. “The SANDF has had numerous problems with our vehicles,” SANDF spokesman Siphiwe Dlamini said, adding that it has been trying to fix the vehicles through external service providers. “Our vehicles get fixed but two to three weeks down the line they are stuck on the road.” “The Cubans are here to assist us fix the vehicles and create capacity within the defence force so we can do the fixing and maintenance repairs ourselves,” Dlamini told a media delegation in Potchefstroom on Friday. “Until we create capacity ourselves we will be forced to continue to rely on external service providers.” The Cubans are not just refurbishing vehicles - they have five goals: to organise fleet management, organise technical support, deactivate old vehicles, preserve vehicles and perform maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) activities. Brigadier General Elvis Mathaba, Director of Army Logistics, said that the Cubans in particular were invited to assist the SANDF for several reasons: they are cost effective; private industry is reluctant to pass on skills to the SANDF; Cuba helped South Africa during the Struggle years and still has good relations with South Africa; and Cuba has been able to keep its own military vehicles running in spite of half a century of sanctions. Mathaba said the poor state of the SANDF’s vehicles was due to a lack of maintenance, repair and overhaul. A skills shortage has compounded the problem and this Cubans will help address this. Poor vehicle serviceability has financially impacted on the SANDF as the United Nations does not reimburse the military for unserviceable vehicles used on international peacekeeping deployments. The SANDF has equipment deployed in Darfur and the Democratic Republic of Congo with UN missions there. http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=38380 3 Likes 1 Share |

http://news.yahoo.com/foreigners-train-nigerian-troops-final-onslaught-hits-boko-150912277.html LONDON (Reuters) - Foreign private security personnel from South Africa, Russia and South Korea are on the ground in northeast Nigeria to train Nigerian troops and are not engaged in frontline combat against Boko Haram, the government said on Tuesday. According to security and diplomatic sources, Nigeria has brought in hundreds of mercenaries to give its offensive against the Islamist militant group a shot in the arm ahead of the March 28 presidential elections. But government spokesman Mike Omeri said foreigners on the ground were only engaged in training Nigerian troops. "There are trainers on the ground to assist in the handling of equipment," Omeri told Reuters on the sidelines of a news conference in London. "They simulate, they teach. These are the things they do." Asked if they were directly involved in fighting, he said: "I am not aware of that." Africa's most populous nation and top energy producer has been plagued by the Boko Haram insurgency since 2009, when insurgents intensified efforts to establish an Islamic caliphate in the northeastern Borno state. However, this year Nigeria and its neighbors have launched a series of offensives to recapture territory, turning the tide against Boko Haram in the run-up to the hotly contested presidential poll. Omeri would not confirm how many foreigners were involved but said they had come from the same countries that had provided military equipment. He cited South Africa, Russia and South Korea. "Acquisition of recruitment and military hardware is done through a number of processes. There are government-to-government exchanges and there are those who also come through contractors," he said. The contractors' stay in Nigeria would end when local troops had become proficient at handling the equipment, he added. "This is training on site and maybe this is why the people on the ground have been described as mercenaries." He declined to predict how long it would take for the military to regain full control. "We have started the final onslaught," he said. "This is the road to the finish and we are on it already." (Reporting by Karin Strohecker; Editing by Giles Elgood) 2 Likes |

Nigerian Military Trained By Technical Advisers Clement Ejiofor, 3 hours ago Email050 Senior military commanders have dispelled recent media rumours that Nigeria is deploying hundreds of mercenaries against Boko Haram terrorists, describing the information as a joke taken too far. According to the officers, the foreigners are technical advisers that are providing trainings and instructions on the use of new armaments recently procured by the Nigerian military in the war against insurgents. Speaking with PRNigeria, some top commanders insisted that it is part of propaganda to paint Nigerian Army as incompetent to deal with the insurgency by desperately ascribing recent spate of successes to ‘others’ rather than the gallant troops’ efforts. The anonymous source also recalled that recently some news agencies ascribed such successes to Cameroonian, Nigerien and Chadian forces while it was obvious that the forces of those countries were mainly fighting along their own border blocking free movement of terrorists. The source further cited the particular example of the maintenance technician, who died recently, stressing that he was not even a combatant but a professional in fixing armour vehicles. President Goodluck Jonathan in his interview with Voice of America confirmed that Nigeria has some trainers helping to get troops well acquainted with the recently acquired weapons. “We now have this technical people who are trainers and technicians, who are to train our people on how to use them, and technicians that help the maintenance, at the same time training our people how to maintain this equipment,” the president said. The source added with regrets, that Nigeria wasted several years while negotiating and appealing for equipment supply from the Western allies which were not only rebuffed but prevented other countries from selling to Nigeria.it http://www.naij.com/402290-nigerian-military-trained-by-technical-advisers.html 2 Likes |

Nigerian Troops Recover Borno Major Town Ajomole Helen, 34 minutes ago The Nigerian troops have recaptured a major town in Borno State named Bama, which has been under Boko Haram’s control since September, 2014. The military had made several unsuccessful attempts to recapture the town a security source revealed on Tuesday. Soldiers were said to have broken into wild jubilation in the Maimalari Barrack, the headquarters of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri after the commercial town had been liberated. Bama is the second largest town in Borno State and has a place in the history of the Kanuri. It was learnt that the battle to recapture the town was led by the General Officer Commanding, 7th Division, Maj. General Lamidi Adeosun. The GOC, an infantry general, led his team to the town on Monday and returned on Tuesday after troops had successfully recaptured the town. It was gathered that contrary to earlier fears, the Nigerian troops did not meet serious resistance from the sect in Konduga and Bama towns. A source among the troops said, “The general did not even utilise our crack boys in Konduga. He just took his team from our supply of new boys here and drove straight into Bama, leaving the Konduga guys to rest and continue watching his back till he took over Bama. He chased the bad people out, removed their flags and installed our authority.” It will be recalled that the Senators in Nigeria’s national assembly today commended the Nigerian military over the recent successes recorded in the war against Boko Haram. http://www.naij.com/399949-nigerian-troops-recover-borno-major-town.html |

Msauza: Liar. It has been all over the news by the international media about these 2 border towns being cleared by Chad & Niger after permission was granted mind you by Nigeria. They have been trying to rub Nigeria's nose in it, but these are only borders towns. This now makes it 4 border towns running along the border, DIkwa being one of them. That is 4 by Chad & Niger and nearing 40 by Nigeria. Take your propaganda elsewhere. All other towns in Adamawa, Yobe & the rest of Borno were by Nigerian troops only. Eat it. Damasak, the town furthest into Nigeria, is 10 km (6 miles) south of the Niger border, where Niger and Chadian troops have been massing in recent weeks ahead of the offensive. A medical source in Diffa, the capital of the Niger region which borders Boko Haram's heartland in Nigeria's northeast, said 30 wounded soldiers had been admitted to the town's hospital. The Niger military source said about 300 Boko Haram militants had been killed. There was no official confirmation of the toll and it was not possible to verify the figure. "We had permission from Nigeria for this action," the source said. There was no immediate comment from Nigeria, which has launched its own offensive against the militants, whose gains forced Nigeria to delay elections that were due in February. http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=38320:chad-soldiers-killed-as-boko-haram-lose-nigerian-towns-&catid=3:Civil%20Security&Itemid=113 2 Likes |

For the benefit of a d@mb Msauza; Nigerian troops recapture two strategic local governments from Boko Haram The Nigerian military on Saturday said it has recaptured two more local governments from Boko Haram militants in the North Eastern part of Nigeria after intense fighting. The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Sani Usman, a Colonel, said in a statement that troops have flushed out Boko Haram terrorists from Mafa and Marte Local Government Areas of Borno state. “In continuation of avowed recovery of territories held by Boko Haram insurgents, the Nigerian military have recaptured Mafa and Marte Local Governments Areas of Borno State on Wednesday and Friday respectively, Mr. Sani said. “During these operations, the gallant and courageous troops recovered a large quantity of high caliber of arms and ammunitions including anti-aircraft guns from the insurgents.” He added, “It is significant to note that our troops did not suffer any casualty during these operations. Msauza: I thought it was all done by South African mercs? Anyway, nearly 40 towns/communities recovered by Nigerian forces while members of MNJTF move into border towns from the north as they are supposed to do. Did you notice that they again claimed to liberate Dikwa and another town for the second time after claiming they had done so in the past? Anyway, as usual, do your research. The operation was under instruction from the Nigerian military while SANDF are busy posing for photos. 3 Likes 1 Share |

pendy79: You should direct that question to the Finance Minister who blocked a lot of the requests for arms procurement. In case you didn't know, the defence budget has been mainly for Recurrent Expenditure i.e. salaries etc and not Capital Expenditure i.e. military equipment. I am not swayed by lies and excuses, just plain facts. And I don't play politics with the military, for whoever is in power, I will always support them and not run them down to score cheap points. 1 Like |

pendy79: My friend, it isn't as simple as that. The West blocked procurement of military equipment, hence the FG had to turn to Russia and other Eastern markets for equipment. You just don't buy high grade military equipment off the shelf, so the F.G. has had to get some equipment from the blackmarket as well. About 65% of equipment needed have arrived in the last few weeks hence the turn around and BH can't now use anti-aircraft fire on ground troops from miles away. And yes, 36 communities have been recovered by the Nigerian army while Chad has been allowed to enter Gamboru and Dikwa, that is 2 towns. The article you posted said Chadian and Nigerien troops were amassing in Diffa, which is in Niger not Nigeria. 4 Likes |
