Politics / Nigeria's $12 Billion 'Green Africa Airways' WILL Overtake Ethiopian Airlines. by Rossphinki: 4:56am On Apr 18, 2021
Today, Ethiopian Airlines rules the African skies.

But can they cope with the stunning new entry of Nigerian start-up, Green Africa Airways, which has ordered an incredible 100 Boeing 737 Max planes to disrupt the entire African aviation ecosystem?

Ethiopian Airlines chiefs were said to be in a state of total panic and confusion upon hearing the scale of this new Nigerian entrant into the African aviation market, and are hurriedly seeking out ways to counter the influence of the dynamic, highly capitalised newcomer.
.
.

Nigerian start-up places Africa's largest ever aircraft order with Boeing

A Nigerian start-up carrier backed by a former chairman and chief executive of American Airlines has placed an order for up to 100 Boeing 737 MAX8s, representing the largest aircraft deal ever for the African continent.

Nigerian start-up places Africa's largest ever aircraft order with Boeing, with an order of 100 Boeing 737 Max Aeroplanes

A start-up carrier backed by a former chairman and chief executive of American Airlines has placed an order for up to 100 Boeing 737 MAX8s, representing the largest aircraft deal ever for the African continent.

Nigerian start-up Green Africa Airways has signed a commitment for up to 100 Boeing 737 MAX8 aircraft as the airline prepares to begin commercial operations.

The total deal carries a list-price of $11.7bn, the largest aircraft agreement from Africa, and is evenly split into 50 firm aircraft and 50 options.

Babawande Afolabi, the low-cost carrier’s founder and chief executive, said it was a “historic day for the Nigerian and African aviation industry”.

He added: “This landmark deal takes us much closer to our long-held dream of building a world-class airline that will unlock a new realm of positive possibilities for millions of customers.

“Broadly speaking, this deal is a bold symbol of the dynamism, resilience and soaring entrepreneurial drive of the next generation of Nigerians and Africans.”

Green Africa Airways, based in Lagos, has already received its Air Transport License from the Nigerian government.

It is backed by a group of senior industry leaders led by Tom Horton, former chairman and chief executive of American Airlines, William Shaw, founder and former chief executive of VivaColombia and Virasb Vahidi, former chief commercial officer of American Airlines.

Vahidi said Nigeria is “uniquely positioned to be the home of the next major value airline”. According to figures from OAG Schedules Analyser, the country’s low-cost market represents about 16 percent of total capacity.

“The strategic partnership with Boeing positions Green Africa Airways to expand and improve air travel for customers in Nigeria, and further strengthens the relationship between the United States, Nigeria and Africa,” Vahidi added.

Green Africa Airways initially plans to develop the Nigerian market and then build a pan-African network. According to Boeing's 20-year Commercial Market Outlook, airlines in Africa will require 1,190 new aircraft as the continent boosts both intra-continental and intercontinental connectivity over the next couple of decades.

Nigeria Pins Hopes on First Gold Project to Boost Mining Sector

By William Clowes

Bloomberg

9 October 2020, 15:44 BST

Nigeria’s first industrial gold project is on course to enter production next year, and its success will be crucial for boosting mining in Africa’s biggest oil producer, the country’s mines minister said.

Thor Explorations Ltd. is spending $98 million to develop the project, which will have an annual average output of 80,000 ounces. The Canada-based company’s Segilola mine in the southwest should yield gold by the end of the first quarter of 2021, Minister of Mines and Steel Development Olamilekan Adegbite told reporters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Friday.

The West African nation has sizable untapped deposits of metals including iron ore, gold, zinc and lead, but almost all extraction is done on a small-scale or manual basis. The government wants to increase mining’s contribution to gross domestic product to 3% by 2025, from less than 0.1% currently.

Thor is “the proverbial company that dares to jump in the shark-infested water and see whether it survives,” Adegbite said. Progress at Segilola will be key to attracting other mining companies to Nigeria, which offers incentives including tax holidays and customs waivers on imported equipment, he said.

Successive administrations have pledged to grow mining’s role in the economy since Nigeria restored multi-party democracy in 1999. Legislation to expand the sector was passed more than a decade ago.

This is what we need to take Nigeria to the next level economically.

Diversification, Diversification, Diversification.

That is the only way.

Oil and gas income may be enough for a Qatar or UAE with a couple million people..

Not for the Giant of Africa and her 210 million population.

Kudos Mr President.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The sky is the limit for this great and blessed country.

NIGERIA TURNS MAJOR INTERNATIONAL GOLD EXPORTER

Nigerian-Canadian Company to Start Gold Export from Nigeria in June 2021

The Nigerian-Canadian Company, which is mining gold in Nigeria’s Osun State, looks set to commence the exportation of gold in June this year.

This is seen as part of the federal government’s efforts towards the diversification of Nigeria’s economy to create employment and earn more foreign exchange in addition to exploiting the country’s potential in the mining sector.

This disclosure was made by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, in Abuja on Sunday, while speaking at a forum of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in which he described the Segilola Gold Project as a strategic investment for Nigeria’s economic diversification.

The minister described the company as a poster child and the first foreign investor that was doing genuine and serious business in Nigeria.

Adegbite stated, “The company will start exporting gold from Nigeria in June.’’

He said that the project is being executed by Segilola Resource Operating Ltd., a licensed operator and Canadian company, located in Iperindo in Osun.

He disclosed that the company which was listed and quoted on the Toronto Stock Exchange in Canada, the eighth largest exchange in the world by market capitalisation, commanding some 3.1 trillion dollars, is trying to ensure compliance with the economic diversification agenda of the Federal Government.

The minister said, “Mining is a bit capital intensive. So, we need to attract serious players, people who can put in the money and then, of course, begin to make money after some investment because it has a gestation period.

“Mining is not like trading where you put in your money today and then realise profit tomorrow. When you do exploration, it can take a year to three years, then you discover the mineral and then start the exploitation before money begins to roll in.”

It can be recalled that in August 2020, Adegbite had announced that Nigeria was set to commence gold production with the launch of the Segilola Gold Project in Osun State.

The take-off of the project would make Nigeria a major gold producing country and hasten the diversification of the economy and reduction of unemployment.

According to proven surveys, Nigeria has discovered large quantities of gold in Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna, Osun, Kwara, and the FCT.

This is also coming after President Muhammadu Buhari unveiled the first batch of the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Development Initiative gold, which is expected to be part of Nigeria’s external reserve after being purchased by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

I am not ignorant. The countries I mentioned to you are the classes of countries u can compare Nigeria with not Ghana. Nigeria has oil and other resources, it is the fault of any country that Nigeria failed to diversify or utilize her oil which she has mined for decades.

While some of these countries I mentioned worked on their tourism sector which brings them money, Nigeria didn't.

Also, Ghana is way more stable than Nigeria. It is peaceful, has better working system and secured way more than Nigeria. It is not by fine airports.

OH SURE....

If the reverse was the case, and the Ghanaian airports shown were Nigerian and vice versa, all of a sudden, AIRPORTS WOULD MATTER.

You would rub it on our faces night and day, and say 'See! Look at Ghana's airports and look at ours!!'

Fulani can’t value 100 people’s lives like he can value his one cow because since he was born, he doesn’t have any business except that cow. The cow is like his own brothers and sisters. If anything happens to his cow, do you think he can leave you? You have two or three storey buildings and you park your cars , do you fold your hands and watch somebody come to that house carry your cars, your clothes, your wife, destroy the buildings? You must fight.

The Fulani man values his cow just as you value your brother and sister and you go all out to protect them.
They love their cows beyond description, you can’t separate them from their cows to go and stay inside town or city. The cows have names. The way you give your children names when they were born is the same way they name their cows. Even a person who has one thousand cows, those cows have individual names and he knows them by name; the cows have fathers, grandfathers and grandchildren.

What you have in human beings – the ways names are given to people, the same way Fulani give names to their cows. We are cow lovers , that is why sometimes if you kill their cows somewhere they go there to look for justice, because they see like somebody has killed their brothers; they must go to see who did that and they won’t leave that person.

lol.

The Fulanis are making themselves unelectable in future presidential polls, with this kind of behaviour.

This herdsmen crisis doesn't spell the 'end of Nigeria'. It spells 'the end of Fulani presidency for a long time'.

Is it not industrialisation that allows a country to fix such a road in 6 days?

What are YOU doing to help in the industrialisation of Nigeria, so that when the road breaks like that, the govt can easily call up your firm to come in and fix it with your Nigerian made heavy equipment?

You people sit around doing NOTHING, while expecting heaven to transform Nigeria into a Japan.

That is YOUR JOB, as a member of the private sector.

The Japanese govt did not build the equipment used to fix that road. It was a private Japanese company that did.

So what are YOU waiting for?

It is YOU that lacks understanding of Economics. I majored in the subject, so kindly ditch such comments.

Fixated I am not, but you are naive if you don't understand the importance of patronage of the local textile industry over foreign imports, and the massive dent in unemployment that could make.

Can you pls list things we can produce in Nigeria and their contributions to GDP?

There is nothing we ''cannot'' produce in Nigeria.

So providing you with 'a list' is unnecessary. The ones that we produce, do YOU buy?

When last did you buy Nigerian made shoes?

Are you aware that some manufacturers are relocating to nearby countries?
Cements and rice are locally produced, can justify why their costs are increasing with worsening of naira?

Inflation is caused by demand outstripping supply. If locally made cement and rice are expensive, it simply means there is lack of competition in the sectors. The more people move into cement and rice manufacturing/processing, the more prices will fall due to increased competition.

If power sector is not fixed, there would not be much difference in prices of imported and local produced items with the same standard?

Stop blaming ''power sector''. INNOSON is manufacturing vehicles with this same power sector. But if YOU prefer to buy Honda Accord than Innoson, he cannot expand his business, and create more employment. And other local manufacturers will be discouraged from entering the car manufacturing sector. It has nothing to do with ''power sector''.

Ask politicians to stop importing cars, furnitures and other luxurious items?

TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND STOP TALKING RUBBISH.

How many politicians are in Nigeria in total?

Are they even up to 5,000?

All the millions of imported cars you see on the streets, are they owned by politicians?

All the Italian furniture and marble we import, do 95% of them not go to private Nigerian citizens?

''Politicians'' and ''our leaders'' are your perennial excuse for EVERYTHING.

Nothing is ever your fault.

There are even some items we have to import them because we don't have capacity to produce them locally -drugs, vaccines, electronics etc.

We produce pharmaceuticals in Nigeria aplenty. We have electronics firms. Zinox Computers is a local computer/tablet/Ipad manufacturer.

You are WRONG that we lack capacity to manufacture these things, and it is that inferior mentality that makes people like YOU see an electronic product made in NIGERIA, and roll your eyes, and head for the Hewlett Packard.

And when you are challenged to change your mentality, you start looking to blame ''politicians' and ''power sector''.

Politicians and leaders should by examples. In addition, can local producers can match local demands? Rice is a case study.
If local items are easily available, most people would buy them. Did anybody force you to buy dangote products-sugar, indomie, cement etc?

Get real.

Are you saying that the the reason Nigerians buy Italian shoes is because local shoe manufacturers cannot meet local demand for shoes?

Are you serious?

Go and ask Aba shoe manufacturers if they have a problem meeting local demand for shoes.

They will tell you that have EXCESS CAPACITY which they cannot use, because of low patronage.

A simple mindset change among Nigerians can create WHOLE NEW INDUSTRIES virtually overnight.

Take Jeans for instance.

On any given day, not less than 30 million Nigerians are wearing a pair of Jeans.

The Jeans are all imported. Foreign material.

Now imagine for a second that Jeans went OUT OF FASHION in Nigeria, and some traditional tie and dye blue material trousers became commonly sought, due to its lighter material, and local origin.

Oh wait a minute.. All of a sudden, a whole new industry is born. Millions of young Nigerians now crazily seek these locally made tie and dye trousers. If you are seen in jeans, people laugh at you. Due to high demand, huge factories are opening up everywhere to produce these new trousers. Tie and dye specialists are suddenly in high demand, and are attracting huge salaries for their skills. In under a year, 2 million new jobs are created, in just this industry alone, with every sign pointing to increased demand, leading to more people setting up textile factories.

Another example

On any given day, not less than 20 million women in Nigeria have on 'Brazilian hair'.

But what if that style went out of fashion, and is replaced by a rise in demand for traditional hair braiding? And traditional braided wigs?

Oh wait a minute!

Suddenly we have a huge and stunning rise in demand for girls who can braid hair, and make traditional braid wigs!

Suddenly, people start opening large hairdressing centres everywhere to cater for the high demand.

Suddenly hair braiding skills attract a premium, and anyone with experience in it can get a high paying job right away.

The millions of dollars spent on capital flight to Brazil, for 'Brazilian hair' ever month, is suddenly being spent IN NIGERIA, paying indigenes for their braiding skills instead!

I could go on with more examples.

But I'm sure you get the picture.

We are FOOLISH when we sit around and demand that the government should create more jobs.

HOW?

What jobs can they create?

Jobs are created based on demand and supply, not by a politician sitting in an office and saying 'I want to create jobs'.

You cannot create jobs from thin air.

WE the people, must develop strong local demand for locally made goods.

Once THAT happens, employment rate will shoot up to stratospheric levels.

I think you should blame the politicians, corrupt civil servants and business moguls who patronize foreign goods instead of locally produced items.

There are tens of millions of ordinary Nigerians who buy Italian shoes and shun locally made shoes.

In fact, Aba shoe manufacturers often label their shoes 'Made in Italy', just to get Nigerians to buy them.

Local sportswear manufacturers label their clothes 'Nike', 'Adidas', all fake names, just to attract custom from Nigerian buyers.

That shows you how debased our mentality is as a people.

According to him, the goal is to work together toward revitalisation of the food and beverage industry in Nigeria.

“As a team of technocrats and business development partners in Nigeria and the U.S. we are focused on industrialisation of cassava into functional food ingredients for the manufacturing of consumer packaged goods in Nigeria.

“Not only Nigeria but for export to regional West African and to North American and European markets as well.

“We want to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for his visionary leadership of the Economic Sustainability Plan and support of the National Industrial Plan and the Zero Oil Plan of the FMITI under the leadership of Mr Niyi Adebayo, minister for Industry, Trade and Investments.

“We have worked with the minister, Adebayo, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Nasir Sani Gwarzo and the Director of Industrial Development, staff of the ministry to design the terms of engagement and scope of work under the Industrial Cassava Manufacturing Program of the ministry,” he said.

Bello explained that six private sector partners in Nigeria and the U.S had been engaged to ensure the successful implementation of Project Bolt.

According to him, like Usain Bolt, speed is of essence in the programme implementation; we have completed innovation of new food products such as snacks, crackers, shawarma and pizza crust made from cassava.

“Together we shall tackle the issues of unemployment, create jobs for our youths, women and smallholder farmers in Nigeria.

“We commit to over 750,000 new direct and indirect jobs in the implementation of Project Bolt and we are present in six states and looking to expand to a minimum of 10 States in food manufacturing in Nigeria,” he said.

Bello commended Buhari’s efforts in moving Nigeria forward toward economic diversification through food and agricultural industrialisation.

He said the investors had come to provide technical and business leadership to the food and agribusiness sector through co-investments in manufacturing.

He said the investors would apply global food safety initiatives and export market promotions to drive import substitution and Forex earnings.

Politics / Re: The REAL Reason There Is Unemployment In Nigeria = YOU by Rossphinki: 2:03am On Apr 17, 2021
If you look around, those local industries/products which WE are willing to patronise, ARE ALL THRIVING, and employ thousands, and millions of Nigerians:

These are:

Cement
Building materials
Fast food/Eateries
Music
Film
Beer
Home grown food products like cassava, tomatoes, onions, tatashe etc.

The industries which are NOT thriving, are the industries in which we prefer FOREIGN MADE over local.

Those industries are listed in the first post.

So the truth is, the MORE and wider range of locally made goods WE are willing to patronise, the more production of such goods will ensue, and the more employment will be generated.

Politics / The REAL Reason There Is Unemployment In Nigeria = YOU by Rossphinki: 1:31am On Apr 17, 2021
The REAL Reason There Is Unemployment In Nigeria = YOU

When you want a wristwatch, you want the one made in Switzerland or London.

If you hear it was made in Nnewi, you will not buy.

So why will there be numerous watch making factories employing thousands of youths?

Impossible.

If you want sportswear, you demand Adidas, Nike or Puma.

If you are offered something by a local sportswear brand in Akwa Ibom, you will say no.

So why will there be multiple indigenous sportswear manufacturers employing thousands of youths?

Impossible.

When you want a car, you want the one made in Germany, or Japan, or Italy, or USA, or UK.

If you hear it was made in Nnewi by Innoson, you wil not buy.

So why will there be multiple local car manufacturing companies employing youths?

Impossible.

When you want to wear shoes, you want the ones made in Italy.

Antonio Meccariello, Santoni, Bontoni, Armani, Gucci, etc

If you hear it was made in Aba, or Onitsha, you will pick race.

So why will there be multiple shoemaking factories employing thousands of youths everywhere?

Impossible.

If you want a handbag, you look for Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Valentino, and other foreign brands.

If you hear it was made in Ogbomosho, you will slap the person offering you the bag.

So why will there be multiple hand bag making factories employing thousands of youths everywhere?

Impossible.

You want to shack, you will demand Hennesey, Baileys, Jack Daniels. Vodka. Gin and Tonic.

If somebody offers you prime, locally brewed Kai kai or Ogogoro, you will pour it in their face, for the gross insult to your person, that they should dare suggest that you drink such a 'primitive' liquor.

So why will there be multiple hard liquor making factories employing thousands of youths everywhere?

Impossible.

If you want a computer, you want Hewlett Packard, or IBM, or Apple Mac.

If somebody suggests you buy one from local manufacturers like Zinox, you will ask him if he's mad.

So why will there be multiple computer-building factories across the nation employing thousands of youths?

Impossible.

When you want to go on vacation, you head for Dubai, or London, or New York, or Paris.

If somebody suggests you go to Obudu Resort in Cross Rivers State, you will look them up and down and kiss your teeth.

So why will there be multiple resorts everywhere employing thousands of youths everywhere?

Impossible.

The reason there is unemployment in Nigeria is not Buhari, is not the federal government, is not the state governments, is not politicians.

It is YOU.

blackmaine:
Yorubas are the most educated people in Nigeria but they are not wise enough to take charge, I sometimes wonder why it's so please can someone explain better to me

Because they are smarter than Igbos, and understand when the decks are stacked against them, thus not losing 2 million Yoruba lives needlessly in conflict for instance.

Learn from them, strategize and use your sense.
