Says the person whose ancestors was also enslaved by the British

The British we're much more powerful and were too big to fail

Yes they colonized us , and even till today they are still greater than the people they colonized

If you don't face reality and make your life good .

The picture below is how you dress traditionally today.

Just take a quick look at what the man below is wearing. There is nothing on him that is indigenous to igbo culture. From the head wear to dress, they all came after colonization by British.

There was basically nothing about igbos before the whitemen came.

Useless thing, see where humanly organized life, has gotten us into. Igbos are liberal in nature, we don't worship kings like sheep

I feel your pain grin grin. If you dont want us to start digging out your history, tell your kinsmen to be careful how they try to talk down on other tribes.

You said igbos are what?

If igbos are liberal in nature, why didn't you guys reject the warrant chiefs that the British appointed to rule you?

These warrant chiefs are now known as Obi's in igbo land today grin grin. You guys are currently wearing the winter caps/head warmer left over by the British as your traditional head gear.

So what happened to your liberal nature?

Which civilization did Benin create? Do you even know the meaning of civilization?

British invaded Benin 9–18 February 1897

The whole greatness was brought down in no less than 2 weeks! What exactly was the civilization?

Or the selling of slaves was the civilization? The oba that was killing his own people for sacrifices?

Tell me what significant their civilization or whatever was ? At least we see great civilization today , the han dynasty, the Iran , British, Spanish and so on still producing great things

Benin own is just mouth, apart from their art , what else did they make they will shock anyone?

Over hyped! Get out

Your ancestors were not sensible enough to even be humanly organized.

As at the time of the Benin Empire, the reigning form of human organization were Kingdoms and Empires. And Benin built one that stood out in what will later be known as Nigeria. It was even recognized by the outside world.

This is also a fact you can check.

Let's ask...what did your ancestors achieve? What were they known for? Cannibalism and being raided and sold as slaves.

Even other Ethnic groups such as the Igala raided igbo villages and captured your ancestors. They took your lands and even installed their kings. Till today there are kings in igbo land( Enugu) who testify they are from Igala.

Do you know what is called ",The Bight of Benin"?

Benin Enpire was so great and recognized that the a bight along the West African coast was named after it.

Do you also know the Republic of Benin 🇧🇯?

That country derived it name from the Bight of Benin.

What do you call that? Greatness

At a time your ancestors were still in the bush, Benin was already being recognized by world powers as at that time.

No need schooling you on the obvious. Next time you want to discuss or argue history, be careful about what you write and leave Benin out of your falsehood. Benin history is too documented to be distorted by a low-life like you.

I don't think most Nigerian have a very high IQ

You think this is a street Battle? I'm stating facts and you're arguing with your emotions

Benin empire might be great but great to itself alone

Igbo never had an empire but your subgroups were powerful enough, NRI alone had so much achievement and were peace loving people

I did not say anything that didn't happen about the Benin neither did I falsify anything

Benin was defeated in 9 days! The empire fell off and the oba ran away.

Igbo as a whole weee not easily defeated because they were divided into subgroups

If the whole igbo has joined forces to form an empire it would have been brutal because they had the tech and the normal and achieved a lot even as subgroups.

But I am glad they didn't form any empire, I don't like the method used by empires , they just kill and keep killing amd keep expanding until they lose everything.

These facts you are stating only exists in your head and over-bloated ego which has been shown to be in the average igbo man.

Just blabbing and blabbing on the internet vomiting falsehood. Even when your kings and elders tells you the truth, you abuse them because they aren't saying what you want to hear

The British punitive expedition in Benin lasted 3 weeks. This can be found almost everywhere accurately documented with the events that took place.

But here you are spilling falsehood and trying to talk down on Benin who created a civilization your ancestors could only envy from afar.

Keep on with your ego, its innate.

Igbo people were divided into subgroup and each were powerful, although NRI didn't practice slavery and were peace loving people, they didn't invade anyone but instead people joined them out of free will

They freed slaves and practiced a Democratic system, while most empires were fighting each other like bunch of terrorists and bandits

Nri already had advancement and discovered the lost wax technique before even the British

They were civilized enough to know war is a waste of time and instead they built a civilization based on religious practices, peace and love.

All the rest of the empires were just fighting like idiots, where is the Benin empire now? Or the ijaw ?

When you spend all your time fighting and now you are living in old Glory

Falsifying documents to make yourself look great while worshipping a man like you as a God !

You may tag it old glory or whatever term but trying to distort or misrepresent history is a criminal offense.

When it comes to history, your tribe has almost nothing on the Benin Empire.

The facts are there even by your own igbo kinsmen for you to check e.g Nnamdi Azikwe, Olaudah Equiano, and now the Obi of Onitsha.

Let history be history, dont distort it.

There was no resistance from anything called igbo when it comes to colonization. Your ancestors were simply bushmen or slaves at best.

Stop mentioning Anioma because that term is a recent word describing many ethnic groups who were under the Benin empire. They are not igbos and have always rejected being called igbos.

Next time you want to bring a proof on history, dont bring a Revisionist idea that was written just a year ago.

Culture / Re: Obi Of Onitsha Narrates Migration Of His Ancestors From Benin And Ife by saddler: 9:26pm On Jun 29
Konquest:

The Obi of Onitsha was unfortunately spitting out FALSE information in that video. Ijebu Igbo is a town that was founded originally by direct migrants from Ijebu Ode who are of pure Yoruba descent. Ijebu Ode represents the inner settlement of the Ijebu people and Ijebu Igbo represents the outer settlement of Ijebu people. Ijebu Igbo had NOTHING to do with Ibo tribess from the East of River Niger. Period.

It's annoying how anyone including a king would blatantly spew out such falsehoods on an Ibo language program and twist other ethnic groups well-known history. Now that what he said has been translated, it would lower his reputation in the eyes of those who otherwise had some regard for him.

From the advanced history and archival materials I've read for decades now, as recent as the 1800s, the Onitsha and Asaba people who were interviewed by the Whites and other missionaries CLEARLY refered to their neighbors east of River as "Ibo" "Igbon" "oni Igbo" (a name given by the Igalas meaning bush people) which were derogatory because the name describes primitive "bush people" who were often captured as "slaves" to be sold. The Asaba and Onitsha NEVER used the word Ibo to describe themselves.

The Bini royal lineage has paternal roots with Ile Ife over 900 years ago through Oranmiyan who came to what is now modern Benin via Usen (a community founded by Oranmiyan's older brother who came with him from Ife [Ufe). So, it is with the Bini Royal lineage who had Ife paternal descent along the line of Oba's from Oba Eweka that had contact with other people in the present Edo and Delta States. The ruling Royal family lineage of Issele-Uku and a few other communities in Anioma areas or towns also had ruling Royal family lineage from the Bini palace which of course has Yoruba ancestry or descent through the paternal line who greet one another by saying L'mogun (which is a praise to Ogun the Yoruba deity of War and Iron). The people of Usen also greet one another with the term "Delauhe" meaning "How is Ife?"

So you want him to spit lies just to feel pompous?

Not everyone is like you who will tell lies to show off.

I don't think I need to reply you again

I already told you the slaves were sold to ijaw people by igbo people

People igbo captured and sold as slaves too were called ibos or Igbos.

Ijaw and any igbo subgrouo never fought any major war .

The British itself would not even enslave igbo and were resisted for 30 good years!

It's ijaw that would now enslave igbo? Okay if you say ijaws enslaved a sub hub of igbo then which igbo did the British fought since you claimed igbo were already conquered?

Both ijaw and Benin didn't matter much but they are just too loud, people that British burned down their empire and captured everyone as slaves within 9 Days?

Stop this trash you are dumping here.

Igbos resisted British for 30 years? This only exists in your empty brain. grin grin

Benin was the only tribe that resisted the British and fought head-on while your ancestors were easily colonized without any resistance.

Now you are here spilling trash.

Crime / Re: How We Killed Commercial Sex Worker For Ritual In Ogun – Suspect by saddler: 2:40pm On Jun 27
MerchantMNT:

It is not about one big action. government is to secure lives and properties This is the simple and pedestrain commentary that does not accomodate the nuances of solutions. The solutions to securing lives and property are a combo meal of different proportions, and citizens definitely have a role to play in the process.

For starters - off the top of my head, the reporting is of limited value and can be expanded. The journalist (who is not govt) covering this piece must comply with adequate crime reporting standards, in the absence of which should be professional censure and enforcement of errant reporting. In order to achieve this, we would need to establish the current rules of reporting and so on to know if additional stipulations should be added. This process would need enagagement and with time the ball would be moved forward in the direction the ensures that wherever crime is reporting useful info is covered. This way, we know the names and location and histories of the culprits.

If there is no databse for culprits, and the NATIONAL DATABASE IS found wanting, the private individuals in Ogun State through collaboration with comp science/data science/statistics students can be engaged to participate in building one. GOVT is still not involved. The database may include culprits' personal details, arresting officers, stage of judicial proceedings, judges attending to cases, prison status, years spent in prison after arrest etc, Still, no GOVT involved.

A lot of small steps can be taken to achieve our aims of a livable society. Automatically delegating every problem to GOVT leads to mental atrophy in solving solvable problems. GOVT is a mechanism with limited capacity to serve our aims. Other alternative, collaborative, parallel mechanism can also be developed to solve our problems.

Can you please stop! Your last response reeks of meandering around the truth. How can an intelligent mind in 2024 argue that government is not involved in the organization, collection and analysis of data?

How do you plan and execute a budget without necessary data and statistics of the people you want to govern?
Crime / Re: How We Killed Commercial Sex Worker For Ritual In Ogun – Suspect by saddler: 12:46pm On Jun 27
MerchantMNT:

Is it always govt? The sick and fetish mentality displayed is also govt? And the "they", who are you referring to? Some all powerful group to make things right? And has that ever happened? If not, why then, are you still saying GOVT? The so called GOVT is made of Nigerians. It is also possible the evil criminals featured in the story have family in govt or people that have the same mentalities as them in govt. So do you still think it up to Govt

What YOU can do to reduce the misery around you, try to do. Do you volunteer in any educational or health facility? Do you volunteer to train the younger ones on areas that you experienced at? Have you thought of forming an organization that collects data on issues that don't have enough information, thereby enabling more efficient decision making?

Society is reliably built on institutions. Find ways to increase the capacity of institutions around you, thereby enabling them serve you better. For example, in this case, why wasnt the name of ifa revealed. That is a limitation in the reporting process. Journalists and other interesting people could find a way to ensure that names of animals like ifa should always be revealed, and a dedicated follow-up team (possibly an online group) can keep track on developments on the case. There are many other scenarios that can benefit from sustained citizen action.

Only WE can build a society to meets our needs. So try.

You are focusing on the ant 🐜 while the elephant 🐘 in the room is looking at you.

One of the primary function of government is to secure lives and properties. This incident is just one out of the many killings going on.

What can a private citizen without powers do when the government with constitutional powers, money, and other resources has become useless and irresponsible?

To whom much is given, much is expected.
