She was beautiful, elegant and attractive.her name was Anita,We were in the class those days in secondary schools. All the boys in the class were trying to get her.But she would never listen, she was God fearing too.She kept her status as a beautiful God fearing girl till we graduated ,not until b/4 thns went sour. One day,on her way to school,a car hit her,the driver was a handsome young man,and look very humble,as he stepped out of the car to check if he inflict injury on her severely.Though nothn serious happened to her,but they get talking and he drove her to school that day.Fred and anita became good friends,Fred was a 200 level geology student in unilag,Anita never suspected Fred to be harmful,as he lavish her with gifts and kind gestures. The friendship of anita and fred grew and multiply.Fred never in any day ask anita for sex or portary any trait or behavioural pattern that sends negative signal to anita.Anita was really at home with fred. She started visitin fred at his hostel. It came to pass when fred invited anita to somewhere,a friends house on the pretence that they are goin for visiting,as fred was always a good and gentle lad,he succeeded in convincing anita. To caught a long story short,Fred raped anita in his friends house,he did not only disflower her,he gave her HIV.She gat to know this a month after the incident.Though fred was arrested and jailed, but the injury he had inflicted on anita was far too much. anita lives with the viruse and she becanme an anti AIds campaigner. I got to hear her story from her,she is a good friend but everyday, she was growing weaker and weaker, and early 2006,she died. Quite sad, isnt it? Yes my friends AIDS is real,Abstinence is the word. |

love Defined What is love, but an emotion, So strong and so pure, That nurtured and shared with another All tests it will endure? What is love, but a force To bring the mighty low, With the strength to shame the mountains And halt time’s ceaseless flow? What is love, but a triumph, A glorious goal attained, The union of two souls, two hearts A bond the angels have ordained? What is love, but a champion, To cast the tyrant from his throne, And raise the flag of truth and peace, And fear of death o’erthrow? What is love, but a beacon, To guide the wayward heart, A blazing light upon the shoals That dash cherished dreams apart? And what is love, but forever, Eternal and sincere, A flame that through wax and wane Will outlive life’s brief years? So I’ll tell it on the mountaintops, In all places high and low, That love for you is my reason to be, And will never break or bow. copy write. - Matt Dubois I love this poem. |

My Love My love is like an ocean It goes down so deep My love is like a rose Whose beauty you want to keep. My love is like a river That will never end My love is like a dove With a beautiful message to send. My love is like a song That goes on and on forever My love is like a prisoner It's to you that I surrender Am not a good love poet. |

I AM AN AFRICAN. I am an African Not because I was born there But because my heart beats with Africa’s I am an African Not because my skin is black But because my mind is engaged by Africa I am an African Not because I live on its soil But because my soul is at home in Africa When Africa weeps for her children My cheeks are stained with tears When Africa honours her elders My head is bowed in respect When Africa mourns for her victims My hands are joined in prayer When Africa celebrates her triumphs My feet are alive with dancing I am an African For her blue skies take my breath away And my hope for the future is bright I am an African For her people greet me as family And teach me the meaning of community I am an African For her wildness quenches my spirit And brings me closer to the source of life When the music of Africa beats in the wind My blood pulses to its rhythm And I become the essence of music When the colours of Africa dazzle in the sun My senses drink in its rainbow And I become the palette of nature When the stories of Africa echo round the fire My feet walk in its pathways And I become the footprints of history I am an African Because she is the cradle of our birth And nurtures an ancient wisdom I am an African Because she lives in the world’s shadow And bursts with a radiant luminosity I am an African Because she is the land of tomorrow And I recognise her gifts as sacred samson. |

beg to disagree with you, saintsam. In case you haven't noticed, somegirl, ChiluvGod and Nilla are all babes. And they have all put up poems. And there are just a few poems here on love - I can only recollect one (perhaps you can show me the others?). Your poems are a bit long. Perhaps you'd like to shorten them a bit? That might make them easier to read. I make these submissions with all due respect to your person. Mr Genial we disagree to agree, maybe i did not come across a ladies poem.when I write poems,I dont have the desire of writing it 2 long, but the words just flow, who am I mere mortal to stop it.it is from within. |

ur poem is good.most people castigate those living with HIV/AIDS which is unfair.Well I wont blame those Castigating them because the way the diseases was introduced to us and hyped really scared us.Any how it is hard time will start encouraging these patients and preached abstinence, the surest well to fight this epidermic. |

AFRICA COME BACK Come Back, I've heard the surge of your drums Come Back, my heart beats lasciviously 'Africa come back' Come Back, I've raised my face out from the dust Come Back, I've peeled off the pellicle of sorrow from my eyes Come Back, I've snatched away my arms from the grip of pain Come Back, I've wrenched apart the hasp of gloom 'Africa come back' The shackle's clasps have made the mace too much to bear So I've fashioned a mould by ripping the strap round my neck 'Africa come back' The bear's death-eyes blaze in every lair Enemy blood has reddened the negritude of night 'Africa come back' The ground is pirouetting with me Africa Rivers throbbing to the rhythm pouring out of the woods I am Africa, your stature mirrors mine I am you, my gait is the gait of your lions 'Africa come back' Come stride like your lions 'Africa come back' Am so proud of my colour.Nnilla,I would want to see ur poem. |
