Good morning house,

I, my wife and 2 kids are planning to relocate through the student route in January or thereabout. We just found out that she is pregnant and we plan on keeping it.

So I want to ask if she can come with me to work a bit before she gives birth while I come back later to pick my 2 kids in Nigeria. I have where they can stay in Nigeria for while we are away.

OR

She stays behind and after childbirth, she can come with the kids.

Because I really need her to be with me while I'm schooling.

So gurus in the house what do you advice?

Education / Re: Why Do Kids From Wealthy Homes Study Very Unpopular Courses? by samcrispy: 11:04am On Sep 26, 2021
CrystalSpark:
This question has always been on my mind and just now I’m reading, again, that the daughter of President Buhari went to the UK to study Photography. grin grin

Not just her! There’s a noticeable trend even in Naija; a kid from a very wealthy home may go to a university to study music, or catering, or something that isn’t “popular and mainstream”.

The rest of us from not so rich homes will kill ourselves with mechanical, chemical, petro-chemical, electromagnetic engineering

Here in Nigeria most of those unpopular courses are the ones that are really relevant out there. Here in Nigeria, there are some courses you will do here but you can’t use that certificate to work here in Nigeria , you have to leave Nigeria and go explore the world before you can reap the reward.

Any suggestions or ideas are highly welcome.. thanks.

What I’m about to say might sound funny or you might see it as something you can’t do based on your status.

With this money you can start selling Thrift wears with it. It’s a lucrative business but you need to learn the ropes of this business before delving in fully.

There are HR jobs quite alright but not all organizations have or need a dedicated HR dept depending on staff numbers but just know that you will be competing with Oyinbo women for jobs in HR which seems to be a forte dominated by Oyinbo women and even if that were not so, my guesstimate is that serious downsizing will happen soon or has already started for functions (including HR) that may not need as many staff as Pre-Pandemic figures.

Couple this with the fact that a lot of Companies are taking advantage of the past 15 months of most of the UK working from home to get out of Property leases since they don't need that many office spaces anymore as their staff working from home will save them millions in office rent over time and this will make you realize that no office manager or even HR job is safe going forwards as there are fewer or no more physical offices to manage and i would suspect that a lot of companies will be moving their HR functions partly online to self service Apps and with job interviews / onboarding functions now conducted on Zoom, MS Teams, Self Service will mean that not that many HR staff will be needed going forwards.

I may be wrong but if I was a gambling man, I would stake my money on Office manager, HR and Facilities management jobs suffering a cull in the not too distant future as ruthless company Execs whose fat cat bonuses depends on bottom line profits which translates to ruthless cost cutting will not spare any function that is "perceived" to be dependent on working from a bricks and mortar location the need for which Covid has drastically reduced.

If I were to give you good advice, since you are yet to apply for the MSC in HR, I would say as you have a Bsc in Economics, why not apply for an Msc in Information technology or something related to computers which is the future as not only will this help in your marketability, you want to be in a profession where there is a skills shortage unlike in HR or Accountancy where supply outstrips demand.

I’m so grateful for this eye opening response.

I will look for IT related courses because that’s where the world is shifting to in a couple of years. Can I send you an email?

You don't need an MSC in HR to work in HR.....

Hmmm! Interesting because I was planning to apply for Human Resources management(MSc) before now. Maybe I have to go back and do my home work thoroughly. Also thanks God bless you

Your shoe making can earn something but only during summer when the weather is warmer and you could sell them then at your church, mosque or local Nigerian restaurant / beer parlour but generally people walk faster in the UK than we do in Nigeria (maybe because of the cold) and most people white or black wear covered shoes or boots with socks most of the year round as this is more practical.

Having said that, what can earn you money year round irrespective of weather is barbing, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrician, bricklaying etc but Naija plumbing will not cut it in the UK as you have to be certified by a Govt body to be a plumber in the UK as you will be dealing with Gas fittings and expensive boilers which the Govt regulates very closely to prevent deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning by shoddy plumbing work which can land the plumber in jail for causing death by negligence.

Thanks for responding.

I also can paint too, I forgot to add that.

Also I want to ask if there are lots of HR jobs available in the uk, because that’s what I feel like studying(MSc) in the Uk.

Yes definitely. Your skill will be useful. Especially during summer when people will love to where pam slippers and sandals.

But if I may ask. Why HRM?

Thanks for your response. I like Managing people and client relations is an important skill I have acquired where I work recently , and this is just one aspect of HR that i can apply to any job.

Also I check online and I saw that HR jobs is in high demand. I don’t know if I’m wrong though but you can enlighten me if you don’t mind. Maybe there are other programs I can go for that you know

What if my name was wrongly arranged on my school certificate, can I get a court affidavit to correct the arrangement as well?

I’m asking so I can make all the necessary corrections and supporting documents before I start the processing.

It will be better to get an affidavit from Federal High Court, stating that the names that are wrongly arranged belongs to you listing the correct names as they are in your Certificates.

Someone have been using affidavit in my family for the mistakes WAEC made in date of birth for over 10years and used it for a successful UK visa.

Think about it

Okay thanks for the info I will sure get a court affidavit showing the correct spelling of my names. Also, my name was wrongly arranged too on my university certificate. Will a court affidavit suffice?

Your first and last name has to match in your documents else you are not the same person.

Get court affidavit to correct that

Hello Everyone please I have a question to ask and I will be glad if anyone can answer.

*My waec result has my name written as OKEGBEMIRO SEGUN S.
But my name on my university certificate is written as OKEGBEMIRO OLUSEGUN SAMUEL.

Do I need to correct the name on my waec result Or there is another way I can go about it? or there is no need to correct it.
