By Ejiro Nesisa

In the face of delayed and sometimes non -availability of subventions which are to be given to Principals in public schools to run minor expenses in the schools across Delta State, it was learnt that the Delta State Commissioner, Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu has allegedly mandated (without option) Principals in the state to pay for, or with their money produce the portrait picture of the Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and she herself to be displayed in their various offices in the schools across the state, the action which would place financial burden on them.

It was learnt that the said project would cost each of the schools’ Principals the sum of #40,000 which they would not find easy to do since they are over stretched in their areas of finance in some maintenance of their schools to make their school comfortable for the students to learn since schools resumed for 2023/2024 academic session.

Reacting to this development, the Chairman, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Delta State branch, Comrade Jonathan Giama said it is a wrong move by the Education Commissioner, Mrs Rose Ezewu if the information is true since neither the various Principals are given subventions nor grants to help run expenses in the their various schools

By Cynthia Eruotor

Nigerian USA- based -legal luminary, Chris Okobah said the court has become a guff and bleeding ground for electoral frauds which have caused more harm than good to the country’s democracy saying as such, it is no longer the last hope of the common man and therefore tasked Nigerians to tighten the knots of the nation’s electoral system to stop the judiciary from deciding the fate of election results.

Okobah stated this yesterday in a chat with journalists in Asaba the state capital. Okobah who arrived Nigeria from U.S.A recently, said, the call became necessary as the court has become a place political class always run to have their way after manipulating the electoral systems .

According to him, the uncertainty and confusion in the air following the recent court’s Judgements show that the court is now “the last hope of the corrupt politicians because they get what they want, after all”.

His words:”It is nonsense when we say that the court is the last hope of the common man. The court is now the last hope of corrupt politicians because they use it to get what they want. So, why must we live our electoral system to court to decide, it only happens though, because of the manipulations in the system.

Education / Schools’resumption For 2023/2024 Academic Session Across Delta State:urgent Tas by samogude(m): 8:02am On Sep 15, 2023
By Samuel Ogude

“Education is the bedrock of the society”, as it is commonly said. No doubt, it plays a lot of roles in human capital development and any nation which downplays education matters is doomed. In the education of a nation, the government at all levels, the teachers and the students/ learners themselves have parts to play. While it is agreed that informal education begins at home, the government leads the way in formal education and others follow: it establishes the schools, design the curricular through the experts in education matters, provides human and material resources, does the supervisory roles through the Ministry of Education for effective teaching and learning to take place.

This underscores the basis, like other sectors of the economy, during budgeting, it is not forgotten in a hurry as a chunk of money is allotted for its operation. However, in Nigeria in general and Delta State in particular, the case is different. It does appear that the education of the citizens in basic and secondary levels are downplayed. How? With the money budgeted for education sector, there is nothing to write home about as many of the basic and secondary schools lack human and material resources to operate despite the UBE programme

Since Presidential Election Petition Court’s judgement in Abuja which took place on Wedneday, 6th September, 2023, in a case which involved President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of All Progressives Congress(APC), Peter Obi of Labour Party(LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), many Nigerians have continued to express mixed their feelings over the development. Many have said that Nigeria has a long way to go as the best people are never allowed to govern or be in leadership positions in the country.

The Lead Pastor, Family House Church International Warri, Pastor Emmanuel Osiegbu said a nation without truth, justice is waiting for its doom. According to him, the judgement of the court on that day fell short of many Nigerians’ expectations saying a democracy without the masses is not democracy.
