Politics / Re: Northern Muslims must rule for peace to reign (picture) by samsolite(m): 3:31pm On Nov 19, 2013
Fulaman198:

You are beyond stupid

There is no such thing as Hausa-Fulani, Mr. Yoruba-Igbo. Only someone who is extremely d.aft like yourself thinks that a Northerner will kill based on being of a particular ethnic group. Did you ever finish primary school?

I understand your reasoning in trying to separate the two entities of Hausa and Fulani as being distinct. But in reality, we all know that though they may be distinct, yet they are united by centuries of Master-Slave (Fulani- Hausa) relationship. The original Hausas have been so subdued and subjugated through the centuries that they lack a clear identity of their own, and rather depend on their Fulani conquerors for sustenance. Thus are the willing tools of arson by the Fulani Oligarchy.

How come the Traditional/Religious rulers are all pf Fulani extraction?

So, Fulaman, there is no basis comparing the Homogeneous Fulani/Hausa as being synonymous with Yoruba/Igbo.

Thanks.

Romance / Re: How Can I Get A Girlfriend??????? by samsolite(m): 1:54pm On Nov 17, 2013
icebeatz: Hello NL family, this may sound unbelievable but since I was born ive never ever had a girlfriend or been in a serious relationship.

I find it really really difficult to communicate my feelings to a girl in words and its especially painful seeing other guys take the girls that im loving...

When I like a girl, I am reallt caring towards her and would do anything I can to make her happy but they just dont seem to get message. After a couple of weeks or months, they take me as their best friend and then go date another guy. Damn... its just pathetic.

Mind you, this only happens with the Nigerian girls....
Outside the country, girls will tell u they like u if you are caring to them.

So how do I get a nigerian giirl friend?? Lol

@ the bolded
Why end your good start with a stereotypical ending? You'll grow grey hairs waiting for them to ask you out. Better grow some ball*s and tell the next girl hoe you feel.

iamdsam: Even at my age right now (20), I got a lot of these thinkings and regret. I feel like am not suppose to be in the level I am right now. I have regretted and still regretting alot of things in life right now. I really need somebody to talk to because it seems I have no dream. It seems I've lossed focus on life because of the situations am going through. I need to see a clear path in my life. Imagine finishing secondary school at the age of 16 and at 20 you're still at home. Imagine having precarious health situation at a young age of 20. My life thinking has totally changed. I got an entirely different view of life right now. It seems I don't have the confidence and zeal to push forward in life. Nobody to talk guilde and talk strength in me. I stopped been a yahoo boy at a time after I sat and thought about my life that it would only amount to regrets in the future. I want to live a life with a clear vision. I want to have a clear dream!

I was quite touched by what you are presently going through. I didn't put up this post for anyone to start having regrets, far from it. Its a call to action, a reawakening for you to stary living life in the present.

And at your age (20), bro. you are still very young to give up. You only become a loser when you stop trying.

Finally, please talk to someone you trust about how you feel; parents, siblings, an elderreligious leader. It will help relieve part of the burden you bear.
Nairaland / General / Things People Regret Before They Die by samsolite(m): 9:36pm On Oct 25, 2013
1. I wish I’d cared less about what other people think.

It’s only when you realize how little other people are really thinking of you (in a negative sense) that you
realize how much time you spent caring and wasting energy worrying about this.

2. I wish I had accomplished more.

You don’t have to have won an Oscar, a Grammy, or even a Nobel prize, built up a business or run a marathon,
but having small personal accomplishments is important.

3. I wish I had told __ how I truly felt.

Even if the “special one” doesn’t exist, telling someone how you truly feel will always save you
from that gut wrenching ”but what if…” feeling that could linger for life if you stay quiet.

4. I wish I had stood up for myself more.

Sometimes, it’s too easy to think that if you go all out to please everyone you’ll be liked more or your
partner won’t run off with anyone else. I think age probably teaches us to be nice but not at the expense of our own happiness.

5. I wish I had followed my passion in life.

It’s so easy to be seduced by a stable salary, a solid routine and a comfortable life, but at what expense?

6. I wish our last conversation hadn’t been an argument.

Life is short, and you never really know when the last time you speak to someone you love will be.
It’s these moments that really stay clear in peoples’ minds.

7. I wish I had let my children grow up to be who they wanted to be.

The realization that love, compassion and empathy are so much more important than clashes
in values or belief systems can hit home hard.

8. I wish I had lived more in the moment.

Watching children grow up makes you realize how short-lived and precious time really is,
and as we age, many of us live less and less in the present.

9. I wish I had worked less.

There’s always a desire to have loosened up a bit more with this one and the realization
that financial success or career accomplishment doesn’t necessarily equal a fulfilled life.

10. I wish I had traveled more.

It can be done at any age, with kids or not but many talk themselves out of it for all kinds of reasons
such as lack of money, mortgage, children, etc. When there’s a regret, you know it could have been possible at some stage.

11. I wish I had trusted my gut rather than listening to everyone else.

Making your own decisions and feeling confident in the decisions you make gives us fulfillment
and joy from life. Going against your gut only breeds resentment and bitterness.

12. I wish I’d taken better care of myself.

Premature health problems or aging always makes you wonder if you’d eaten healthier,
exercised more and been less stressed, would you be where you are today?

13. I wish I’d taken more risks.

Everyone has their own idea of what’s risky, but you know when you’re living too much in
your comfort zone. In hindsight, some people feel they missed out on a lot of adventure life has to offer.

14. I wish I’d had more time.

Many people say time speeds up as we age. The six weeks of summer holidays we had as kids
certainly seemed to last a lifetime. If time speeds up, then it’s even more important to make the most of every moment.

15. I wish I hadn’t worried so much.

If you’ve ever kept a diary and looked back, you’ll probably wonder why you ever got so worked up over a particular issue.

16. I wish I’d appreciated ___ more.

The consequences of taking people for granted are always hard to deal with.

17. I wish I’d spent more time with my family.

Some people get caught up with work, move to other parts of the world, grow old with grudges
against family members only to realize their priorities were in the wrong place.

18. I wish I hadn’t taken myself so seriously.

Life is just more fun when you can laugh at yourself.

19. I wish I’d done more for other people.

Doing things for others just makes life more meaningful.

20. I wish I could have felt happier.

The realization that happiness is a state of mind that you can control sometimes doesn’t occur to people until it’s too late.

madridsta007:

They get married at age 10, pushed into 'marriage' by their fathers because, according to some selfish hardliners, Islam says they should marry underage. There are many 'Yerimas' ready to 'marry' them. They get violated at that same age, and many get the VVF disease. The men they 'marry' to, marry other girls and do not care for them as they are diseased and no more fresh. They get treatment for the disease, which is incurable only managed. At this stage they are without a job, a husband, they have a child and they have a disease.

They now go and look for something to live on. The lucky ones get involved in petty trading and the unlucky ones get into prostitution... They both find it hard to survive and then start to look for men to marry, men who are not forthcoming. If they have girls as daughters, they push them to get married at 9-10 years, so they can get some money from their dowries. The vicious cycle continues.

That is the story of the rural Northern woman. The elite, middle-class and religious leade
rs using religion to oppress the masses; the masses become robots, without the capacity to think or operate on their own. The educated ones amongst the Northerners, maintain silence, like some selfish corporate agreement.

Very apt analysis of life in the North. Saints by day, the worst sinners by night.
Such is the hypocrisy of their lifestyle with a conniving silence of their religio-political leaders.

LOL.. @ people hating on the Holy Mother Church. I know your problem, you only wished you had a little of what we have; The history of papal succession based on the Apostolic tradition, the organized way d new pope was elected.

The catholic church is not a 1 man show. it was ordained by God.
"You are Peter and on this rock I'll build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it!"

God bless the Pope.
Programming / Re: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by samsolite(m): 12:31pm On Mar 11, 2013
I've been learning Python for some months, and having gone through some introductory books, I'd say I've grasped the basis of programming and the Python language.
Now it seems I'm stuck at the beginner level as what I've accomplished are just the simple textbooks exercises.

I need advice and direction, like a career development plan, on what it takes to be a software developer. Where do I go from here?
Thanks.

omo_to_dun: What is more important than the number of languages that you can wield is the number of applications that you have built with such tools. Far be it from me to advise anyone not to learn another language for I love learning languages too; however, proficiency in a particular language is the most alluring trait of any programmer. Of course, it is not necessarily the case that the fewer languages you know the better you will be at them since you have more time to practice them. Instead of going to Java, find books and tutorials on Advanced Python.

Please could you suggest projects for a beginner programmer?

Programming / Re: Ubuntu Operating System Comes To Android Smartphones by samsolite(m): 2:04am On Jan 13, 2013
lordZOUGA: Ubuntu is the most popular operating system
to be based on the Linux kernel - the code that
lets software and hardware work together. The London-based firm behind it, Canonical,
offers it for download free of charge and has
been helped by thousands of volunteers who
contribute to the open source project. The firm makes money back by offering
support and training and also plans to take a
share of sales from online marketplaces
offered by handset makers who adopt its
software. It estimates that more than 20 million PCs
already use it. In many cases these are older machines which
benefit from the fact it is less demanding on
computer power than Windows - and is virus-
free. Canonical says it will take a cut of sales from
manufacturer's stores The new version has been designed to work on
last and current-generation Android handsets
which share the Linux kernel. This means
Ubuntu can re-use existing software drivers to
control the hardware. There are already 45,000 native apps for the
system - albeit with several notable omissions
such as Adobe's Photoshop and the Office
suite, although alternatives do exist. Developers will be urged to adapt their apps'
interfaces to look different when running on a
phone's screen while offering the same core
functionality. To offer touch-based controls Ubuntu has
adopted the same QML (Qt modelling
language) framework being utilised by the
upcoming Blackberry 10 operating system. Mr Shuttleworth suggested this meant many
app makers would be familiar with the
technology. In addition Ubuntu can run web apps written in
the widely-adopted HTML5 language.
