Can we ever change?
Can we ever stop disrespecting or cursing ourselves?
Can we?

There is something I have noticed about us on Nairaland, we are so good at raining abuses on one another at the slightest opportunity. Even if a Nairalander says something that is not comfortable with you or you find not to be true, it doesn't mean the person is a slowpoke. We say these things without considering the consequences of what we say. We sometimes curse one another, forgetting that we are human beings and not animals. We ought to respect ourselves.
I can be argued that we don't value ourselves or our ideas. Does it mean that we don't value human beings as this is the current situation in Nigeria?!

I don't have any problem in accommodating people. When I first came to the UK as a student, I was accommodated for about two months before I eventually got a place and a job. Now I am comfortable.
It is always good to help or give favour, the time may come when you will need one to.

Romance / Re: When A Girl Intimidates You. by saokea(m): 9:21pm On Nov 22, 2011
Questioning a guy's intelligence, e.g. proving to be smarter can be seen as intimidation.
Showing that you have got more money may sometimes intimidate a guy. Your car too can.
Personally to me, these won't intimidate me especially if she loves me.

Guess she is a hustler. You can confirm her real names via her Passport with Bank statement.
If you like her, enjoy the ride with her. You may have to look for another girl, if you are not comfortable with it.

Career / Re: Any Opportunities In Healthcare Consulting/management In Nigeria? by saokea(m): 5:19pm On Jul 12, 2011
Personally to me, doctors with some managerial functions should have a good knowledge of management and business skills. Placing a person with little or no medical knowledge to manage or head a healthcare firm is not appropriate on its own. It is similar to saying a non medic manager should be a medical director or a minister of health.
Doctors now want to take proper responsibility/management of healthcare institutions, hence the desire for MBAs.

@bm10aso, I am based and working in the UK as a medic. Would prefer to work and enroll for the Executive MBA. Doing a full time MBA may be a suicide mission for me. I have got a few schools in the UK. Still going through their accreditation profiles and looking at the best value for money.
@buzugee, I will summarise Healthcare consultants/ consulting firms as people or firms who give advice or provide solutions to healthcare firms.

Nigeria seems to be the best place to maximise potentials.

After further research, I am seriously considering opening an account with an Islamic bank. Competition will bring down interest rates and common man will survive.
Islamic banking is in over 70 countries. I am not interested in its name. I am only interested in what it can offer.

During Buhari's regime, there was law and order. People did things right. Not the same with other past president.
I believe Buhari and Bakari have got a mind of their own, will try do the right things and ensure Nigeria is on the right path.

It's difficult to say. I believe all courses have got their bits and bits. I consider studying languages (e.g. Yoruba) as hard a course. I am a yoruba man and a medical doctor.
Medicine requires deligent and smart people and I guess the same is for law, accounting, pharmacy and IT.
The only difference with Medicine and IT is that if there is an error on the part of the doctor, the patient may die, but with IT, you probably reboot the system or get a new computer.
Life can not be replaced. Isn't it?

Politics / Re: Relocation To Nigeria From The Uk 2011. Am I Mad Or Is It Possible ? by saokea(m): 5:34pm On Dec 31, 2010
I am currently based in the UK, earning roughly above £6k after tax deductions. I left 9ja about 3 years ago and I am seriously missing my country.
I am afraid that getting a 1m monthly naira job as a medic is practically impossible. It is either I stay here in the UK or decide to go into a completely different business in Nigeria. However, I quite agree that if one is planing to relocate back home, one will need to have his or her own house and a good business plan in place.

OMOSOFE F:

No one has said a word about opportunities in Australia. Are there rooms for consultant anaesthesiologist from naija?
I am based in the UK and visa rules on training applies to newcomers. You can work as a doctor, but not as a doctor training to be a consultant.
I am aware that you can migrate to Australia and work there provided that you have got the licence to. You will need to go to Australian Medical Council via Google website.
Because you are a consultant, there may be a room for you to practice and avoid some of the exams non consultant doctors need to write and pass. I'm not too sure of that.
If you do get the licence, you are more likely to be posted to rural areas where your services maybe needed most.
You can practice in the UK if you want to, but it won't be as a consultant, but as a senior doctor (middle grade doctor). I'm also aware that if you have got UK medical licence and have worked for at least 6 months, you will be able to get work in Australia and need not write any exam, but that is for non consultant doctors. I don't have much information for overseas consultants.
Politics / Re: Akunyili: I’m Loyal To President Yar’adua: I’m Loyal To Nigeria by saokea(m): 11:42am On Mar 30, 2010
~Bluetooth:

you can't talk about a nation without mentioning the president.the office of the president is the highest office in any sovereign nation, therefore any individual in such position automatically become the most privileged in that country.you cant distinguish a president from the Constitution because he is the custodian of such.Dora swapped her loyalty at will from Yaradua to Jonathan after knowing fully well That yaradua will not come back to power.

There is a difference between the president and the Constitution and that is why it is spelt in the Constitution that if the president is medically incapacitated, he can be removed.
Kindly answer the following questions;
1. Are you saying that the president comes before Nigeria?
2. Are you saying that the president comes before the Constitution?
Being the custodian of the Constitution does not mean that the president is the Constitution or comes before a sovereign nation.
I believe Dora is still loyal to Yaradua and the President's office which is currently being head by Jonathan.
Politics / Re: Akunyili: I’m Loyal To President Yar’adua: I’m Loyal To Nigeria by saokea(m): 10:40am On Mar 30, 2010
I agree with you that the president is the number one citizen of the country and our loyalty should be 100%.
However, I disagree with you for saying that the president comes before the country.
Because the president is a Representative of Nigeria, does not mean he should come first before Nigeria.
Our Constitution represents the sovereignty of Nigeria and we should all be loyal to it before any citizen.
Let me make it clear that, you must be loyal to your president, your boss, your employer, your parents, your teachers but when a situation arises that you have to choose who you should be loyal to first at utmost, then it is your country.
Politics / Re: If You Were President For 1 Week What Would You Do? by saokea(m): 10:19am On Mar 30, 2010
If I was president for one week, that is 168 hours of being president.
1. Resolve Niger-Delta once and for all (24 Hours).
2. Bring in technocrats to resolve energy problem and this should be resolved by the contracted hours given to them (48 hours).
3. Declare Healthcare free to all Nigerians (24 Hours).
4. Raise the minimum of wage to N30,000 (24 Hours).
5. Give a stipends to unemployed youths (24 Hours).
6. Tackle Corruption (24 Hours). If corruption is not tackled, all my efforts after one week will be in vain.
Politics / Re: Akunyili: I’m Loyal To President Yar’adua: I’m Loyal To Nigeria by saokea(m): 10:04am On Mar 30, 2010
Our Loyalty should foremost be for our beloved country, then others can follow.
Dora demonstrated this very well. She showed her loyalty towards our president and made her stand known in order to move the country forward.
If she had not made that move to put the country first, we may still be getting misinformed by the formal AG.
I admire her courage!!!

Has anyone ever thought that if the President dies now due to illness, the so called "Cabal" may be brought to book?
Politics / Re: Yar’adua To Attend Jumat Service by saokea(m): 12:04pm On Mar 26, 2010
From a doctor's point of view, I don't think the story is true. It is all gimmick in order to stir the political atmosphere in the country.
Our President is so ill that even his family are not allowed to see him nor able to talk with him. It doesn't add up if he suddenly appears in the public for a Jumat service. I have got a feeling that any person who sees our President will raise an alarm on his present state of health. Hence, the reason why the so called "Cabal" are not allowing people to see him.

It is very sad hearing that someone thinks that pharmacists undergo more stressful training compared to doctors. Soon, we will be hearing that Nurses are better trained than Doctors.
A person's perception of training is very subjective, but despite that fact one can't jump to the conclusion that one training is more stressful than the other. Both trainings have got merits. But looking at the curriculum and courses taken by both professions, it is more cubersome to be a doctor.
I also want to clarify that there is no such thing as three major members of the medical family (Doctors, Pharmacists and Nurses). All healthcare professions have got its own importance and they are meant to work hand in hand. For example, a person who has got a chronic back pain will need the combination of the following people to work together: Doctor, Nurse, Pharmacist, Laboratory/Clinical Scientist, Radiographer and a Physiotherapist.
I will also like to point out that the Doctor is always the head of the medical team. He learns a bit of every branch of medicine. He is also known as 'Jack of all trade, Master of none'. Remember, we once had a Surgeon General in the our beloved country.
The only reason why the Doctor's profession is sometimes abused by people is basically because of the low income the Doctor gets.
I was forced to leave the country to seek greener pasture in another country because I was earning N60k per month as at 2007. Things may have change now in Nigeria, but each time I look at my payslip in my country of abode, I smile and say to myself 'it is not yet time to go home'.
I will also like to make a clarification that if Nigeria's health system is redefined and all issues are addressed, a great number of healthcare professionals may decide to come back home.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Contract Job With Total (200k) Vs Masters In The Uk: Which Do U Prefer? by saokea(m): 9:15am On Apr 05, 2009
@ Annyplenty,
Getting a masters degree in U.S, UK, Canada and Australia is very good with Canada having the cheapest tuition fees. It is possible to get a job in the UK after your masters or I rather say that the UK government gives foreign students who have completed a UK degree 2 years working visa to look for jobs. There is also a window available for anyone who wants to change visa category and continue to live in the UK, but he or she needs to fulfill certain requirements. This is similarly practised in Australia and Canada. I don't know of U.S.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Contract Job With Total (200k) Vs Masters In The Uk: Which Do U Prefer? by saokea(m): 9:06am On Apr 05, 2009
Hello,
As far i am concern, this case is simple and clear. Work experience from an international company is well valued (i.e Total). In respect of how long the Total contract is, you only need to get a minimum of one year experience (I prefer you get 2 yrs experience), then you can now go for your masters degree. Your Masters degree can wait, but the work experience is a golden opportunity that can't be wasted.
When you have worked for 2 yrs and you now go for a related masters degree, i am sure you will get a job anywhere in the world because Total is well known. More so, you can come back and get a better job in the same total or another place.
Going for a masters degree as a first option comes to many people because they were unable to secure a job hence, they need to keep up with demands. So some go to do Masters to increase their chances of getting one while some go for masters because they either want to pursue a new career or they want their pay grade to increase.
I went for a masters degree only after working for three years and realised that in order to exponentially increase my pay grade, i need to go for a masters degree and this has now paid off for me.
So my advice is simple, since your contract job is a reputable one, take the job for 2 years. Resign officially and tell them you need to pursue a masters degree (this may increase your chances of getting a job again with them or a good reference). If you don't have a reputable job or you don't have a job, then go for a masters degree because this will increase your chances of getting a job (provided you have the funding for it).
