Education / Re: 11 Major Reasons Why Phd Take Too Long To Study In Nigeria by ShalomNigeria: 4:11pm On Dec 28, 2014
Phd requires time and full concentration. You have to give it your attention 24/7. Most PhD students in Nigeria can not devote 20% of their time to the work and expect to finish on time. On the average, you need to give in 6 hours daily consistently, assuming you have access to the literature, to finish within 3 years. That is why highly rated universities expect you to enroll full-time with scholarship to finish within the normal duration of 3-4 years. How do you expect a Nigerian that is busying looking for money or only have access to Google to finish on time?

To add to the discussion, one major limitation has to do with availability of research materials. PhD is suppose to be a global research and one need to have access to academic databases and subscribe to publishing companies. Most of these databases and publishing houses require libraries to subscribe but most Nigerian institutions can not afford to for one reason or the other.

Hmmm!!!!

What a country and our President will keep making empty promises on Security issue.

In 2011 he make so many promises On Security, which is the primary purpose of governance, the promises were not only unfulfilled, the situation got worse.
Mr. President promised that if anyone caught breaching the
public peace to face the full wrath of the law. He promised to make sure that no part of the country is allowed to be a
sanctuary for criminals anymore, yet Sambisa is a den of
terrorists. He promised to confront headlong ethno-religious violence in the country, pursue all bombers and bring a complete end to insurgency. However, as I write insurgency is still thriving in the Northeast with territories being taken, students being maimed, abducted and citizens displaced in their own country. The notorious Shekau has cheated death several times despite claims to have been killed by security operatives and oh, he even addresses the nation more than the President! To even make matters worse, a close ally of the President threatened fire and brimstone should the President go ahead with the groundbreaking takeoff of a proposed gas project in Ugborodo. Consequently, the President had to cancel the ceremony with the excuse of allowing warring factions settle. The failure of the security operatives to arrest and prosecute the individual further embodied him to abduct journalists, torture them mercilessly before releasing them for having the effrontery to cover the events happening in Ugborodo. Yet, nothing has been done to punish the said individual and kidnapping have become a day-to-day occurrence where so many lives has been wasted and now innocent couples are been killed just to show how insecure Nigeria is.

Do you know what is called plagiarism?
Where did you get this from? You can't even paraphrase it.

hotwax: Its either this was published by a muslim or CNN is trying to romance muslims.

This article is all lie

Hmm...CNN will lose credibility it they keep publishing this kind of reports. Most of the facts in this article can be challenged. Back in 1500 BC in India, Sushruta compiled "Sushruta Samhita" that described seven branches of surgery: Excision, Scarification, Puncturing, Exploration, Extraction, Evacuation, and Suturing. Several universities, including Nalanda, existed in India way before 859 AD. India is the birthplace of many mathematic concepts, including zero (invented by Aryabhatta in the 5th BC), decimal system, square and cube roots. Toothbrush popularized by Prophet Mohammed? How silly is that - chew sticks has been common in most ancient civilizations, - and the bristle toothbrush was invented in China in the 15th century.

Yes and this has been my heart cry for years. Although I am not yet there, His grace is sufficient and I know that daily He has been transforming me to a better person. I will definitely get there one day if I do not turn back.
Religion / Re: Which Is Wrong: From The Christian's Perspective? by ShalomNigeria: 4:37pm On Oct 11, 2013
@op it depends on your conscience. If you conscience is okay with it fine if it's not then it's bad. Conscience is a talkative when you do something bad
That is if the conscience is not already seared with hot iron and the person is not yet comfortable to "crucify Christ again" continuously
1Ti 4:1-2: The Spirit says clearly that some people will abandon the faith in later times; they will obey lying spirits and follow the teachings of demons. Such teachings are spread by deceitful liars, whose consciences are dead(seared with a hot iron), as if burnt with a hot iron.

Joagbaje:

It depends . The fake money thing is wrong. Except you're paying it back to whoever gave you. But other issues . Are relative . It depends . Some people demand Money for their service . Even though the money may be illegal it's a matter of faith and choice . It requires wisdom.
For example a police man accuse you falsely and demand . Money, but you're in a hurry for a service ,function or a programme that is of urgency. Wisdom demands you settle him and go. But you can still fight for your right ,you will win eventually except that . You would have missed your appointment. So it depends on the situation. And individual faith. Jesus paid illegal money .

Matthew 17:24-27
And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? . . . When Peter were come to the house, Jesus saith unto him. . . . lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money:that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

Matthew 5:25
Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

Jesus did not pay illegal money. The passage refers to the temple tax that is expected from them. You can see that Peter responded positive to show they do it regularly (I dont know why you left that part out of your quote). Jesus was explaining to the disciples that He is the spiritual temple (and as the son of God) and He is not suppose to pay but He choose to pay to demonstrate His humility to obey the law. The same goes with His teaching in Matthew that we must be ready to sacrifice anything for peace to reign and not to waste precious time in court. Paul also discourage Christians from going to court in his letter to the Corinthians and if possible to follow peace with all men
I leave you with this commentary from Clarke on Matthew 5:25: "In such cases, men should make up matters with the utmost speed, as running through the whole course of a law-suit must not only be vexatious, but be attended with great expense; and in the end, though the loser may be ruined, yet the gainer has nothing". That was why Jesus ask us to be ready to go two mile when ask for one. May God give us a Christlike heart so that we can live like Him

A-town:

Actually, that is wrong. They are not designed to last for an indefinite period. If they do, that is simply a consequence of proper maintenace. That is why they offer warranties which usually don't exceed 100k miles or 10years because they cannot guarantee you anything beyond that.
That said, there are engines that have lasted 400,000 miles that i have seen. Some cars higher mileages but in most cases, the originial engine, transmission etc would have been changed.
I think if you get 250,000 miles out of an engine, the engine don over try.

I will also like to correct your notion about warranty since you seems to have engineering knowledge. you seems to be confusing useful life and warranty. A manufacturer will give a warranty to cover the risk of failure of the product. ordinarily, it is believe there is an element of failure in the design and most of these occur during the warranty period. hence, the manufacturer bears the risk of failure within this period. In essence, it is like saying, without any other external factor responsible for failure, my produce will work maximally if it does not fail within the warranty period. the warranty period is just a fraction of a useful life of the product. if your theory is to be right, no company should sell an insurance to a product after the warranty period.

D bid was disqualified 4 2 reasons according 2 d Chairman of d NCP technical committee(Atedo Peterside) overseeing d process. D consortium submitted 2 different bids against d rules & non of d 2 even met d requirements as contained in d bid document. Lagos state govt had d option of patnering wit any of d consortia dat bidded 4 Eko & Ikeja discos since they were well aware of d legislation. I'm not sure they did though.
I hope people have been following your explanation rather than their PDP vs APC/ACN positions. To support your points, The Port Harcourt DISCO was actually won by a consortium comprising of Some Niger Delta states and a technical partner. The truth is Lagos should have been serious then if the state was really interested knowing that the two DISCOS will attracts financial heavy weights because of their prospects. I am praying that the youth of our country (which I believe this forum boost of reasonable percentage)will be more objective in their criticisms of political office holders. We should be wise enough to know that Nigerian politicians are the same and the beautiful ones are not yet born. Or what should we say of the reason given to increase the tenure of local governments excos in Lagos. If they are saying a LG chairman will need a year to familiarized with his local govt (a place that is assumed to be is constituency and already aware of events within), how long should it take a governor and a president to know the state and country respectively? The earlier we let them know we are not ignorant of their deceptions, the better they will all take the issue of accountability in governance seriously.

Nigerians are funny. Some people are rejoicing over webometrics ranking without knowing the indicators used for such. A wikipedia check is enough to tell you that it is not a serious ranking based on research but just web utilisation by the institutions. I believe Nairaland, premiumtimes and saharareporters will rank higher than all those universities based on webometrics criteria. sean benito: As savings account is supposed to be for savings, regular withdrawals from it defeats the purpose. That is why most banks do not pay interest once money has been drawn from the account more than a certain number of times monthly.
If forfeiting my interest (a condition we are all aware of after 3 withdrawals in a month) is all they do, that is fine. But the issue is the other charges like maintenance account charge and electronic channel fees in ACCESS bank.

I have been asking people around me if the description of Savings account has change in Nigeria. I bank with GT and ACCESS and gt don't have any of these 'systematic robbery' charges like ACCESS. On my ACCESS IPSA account, they charge me electronic channel fees of N100 sometimes twice in a month (as in January 2013) and another monthly account maintenance charge of N200. Apart from these charges, they also deduct sms alert charge. Can somebody please tell me if these deductions exist outside the shores of Nigeria?

CrazyMan: Good evening my fellow Nairalanders, as we all know, the year would be over in a couple of minutes.

So I would suggest we have a sober reflection on our lives so far.

I would like to share a brief sermon with us.

The topic: A time for Renewal

Those of you with a bible can turn with me to luke 3:10-20.

10 "What should we do then?" the crowd asked.

11 John answered, "Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same."

12 Even tax collectors came to be baptized. "Teacher," they asked, "what should we do?"

13 "Don't collect any more than you are required to," he told them.

14 Then some soldiers asked him, "And what should we do?"
He replied, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely—be content with your pay."

15 The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Messiah. 16 John answered them all, "I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

17 His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." 18 And with many other words John exhorted the people and proclaimed the good news to them.

19 But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother's wife, and all the other evil things he had done, 20 Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.

The first step towards recovery is to submit to God's light for clear understanding and direction.

There is no degree of decay or corruption that God will not handle.

We are for relationships and fellowships with God and man. When we are not in a relationship with God, everything goes wrong. But when your relationship with God is perfect, then every other behaviour will line up together with it.

Dealing with our shortcomings means facing them squarely - in our thoughts, social and emotional lives.

Our fellowship is with God and if we live in sin while claiming to be christians, there will be no headway to recovery.

To live in the light, we will continually see our faults as the lights revels them and then make corrections.

1 John 1:3-7. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete.

5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Are you doing that now?

Note verse 11-13 of luke 3

Relate appropriately with others and offer them help when necessary.

See also Galatians 6:1-2. 1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Note verse 14 of luke 3 our society (Nigeria and Nairaland) is fast becoming a jungle where everything is accepted.

People cheat one another, accept bribes, have no regard for the law, have no regard for God and their fellow man.

Greed and hatered has taken over the nation today.

People are no longer polite and respectful, but would like to intimidate the weak and harmless.

Are you one of such people?

We have barely 30 minutes to the end of the year...its not too late to give up such attitude.

our prayers would be brief

Prayer 1. Search me O lord and deal with every wicked way in my heart.

Prayer 2. Teach me o lord to serve you whole heartedly come 2013.

Prayer 3. Lord I re-dedicate my life to you...help me survive the new year.

You can now pray...

Thank you for your exhortation. May God give you a new name this year. May His wisdom flow in you and through you throughout the year. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL NLANDERS. May God transform all of us and our leaders so our Nation will be transformed. May we all be avenues for Nigeria's name to be honoured and revered. May God restore peace to Nigeria and to those in storms.

The title of the book is "God's Generals" and it was written by Roberts Liardon and not by Smith Wigglesworth. It is a sort of biography compilations of men and women God used to build His church in the modern age, their strength and weakness. Smith Wigglesworth just happen to be one of them. Many of our modern day church leaders looked up to these people as a model. Those taking about smith should read the book before commenting about him (and many other interesting characters therein).

Though "Bad people have spoilt right motives of the good ones", I still believe a pastor (or elders) need to know committed members of their congregation i.e where you work, nature of the job (but I don't believe they need to ask for the amount you earn). The church consists of mixed flock (sheep and goat). There is the need to have some of these information so that they won't give responsibility to the wrong people. People in the past have criticize churches that have members who are corrupt or armed robbers. Also, how would the church know members that need assistance? I don't think a church member who is unemployed or under-employed will see anything wrong if his pastor ask him such question. Rather, some will be the one to approach their pastor and reveal their pay so as to get prayer support. It is fine if I choose to tell my pastor but I don't think it is appropriate if I am asked. But I am at liberty to answer if I am ask such question.

Parenthood is a privilege but cultural and economic drift is making us see it as a burden. Why should a baby sleep alone? what will make such a home better than a motherless babies home? Do we know the confidence and assurance of love children feels when they roll-over parents in their sleep? You can read some scientific researches on co-bedding to know the findings on the practice. This wasn't a problem when Africans live in as a community, at least there would be a relative or other children to stay with the baby. But in this modern times that we are so busy with work, when do our children really feel the love and "heat" emanating from our presence? I know they will definitely move to their rooms, but it should be a gradual process. Personally, not earlier than 2 years if he or she won't be alone in the room.

Quickly as I listen to him, I ran some scriptural check on his prophesy to see if it aligns with the word of God and I can't but conclude then he is false prophet.

Many times I wonder what the body of Christ had turned into.....smh shocked shocked shocked I tried to get the video online but can't get the exact program but got similar video where the Pat Robertson said the same thing he said on Benny Hinn programme.

Mr Goshen360, Please be careful how you accuse people. The two links did not link these "men of God" to Obama winning or loosing the election. Rather they are trying to ask Christians to pray because the outcome of the election will affect America and the world. I'm not sure many bother to watch your links before posting. Many are only expressing their love and hatred for them. I tried to search the internet about your so call prophecy and found none. Maybe it will be there tomorrow
Or was it a vision you saw since you are just waking up?
Please let us not start issues that will mislead people. This is one of the biggest problem we have in our country.
