[quote author=etrange post=116323358]Madonna?!?!?!?!?!? If only these kids on Nairaland knew who we're talking about here, you'd know this is a big deal. It doesn't even matter if you're her fan or not, Madonna's dominance in the music industry back then is comparable to that of MJ and her influence can still be felt till this day. So to a musician like Rema, meeting Madonna and getting compliments from her is huge. It's like a painter meeting Leonardo DaVinci. Leonardo may not mean anything to you, but he definitely means everything to an artist. [/quotes/] Madonna is great sir, but calling her where you call MJ and DaVinci is an insult she no near. |

For many years the Nigerian government has taken the life's of the youth for granted, with the establishment of #SARS the Nigerian police force has done nothing but brutalized the youths, this is a call to Nigeria professional sports men and women (in particular to football) with all due respect to other sports to boycott playing for Nigeria, until the need is done, the youth which you're one of is given their rightfully place and the killing should stop, for if there's no youth to cheer you up they won't be a country worth playing for. gboye93:Well spoken bro, like Odysseys said in the movie Troy: If they ever tell my story, let them say that I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses. Let them say I lived in the time of Achilles. Hector and Achilles are just like Ronaldo and Messi, I give God thanks because in my father's time he spoke of Pele, my elder brother spoke of Maradona, but I'll speak of two greats, my children will have a lot of stories to hear of this two. One proved God gives talent, the other proved God blesses hard work like it was talent. 1 Like |

Politics / Biafran Hero Odumegwu Ojukwu's Short Speech After The Biafran War. by sirSixtus(m): 11:53am On Apr 04, 2020 |
After the civil war which occurred between 6th July 1967- 15th January 1970, here is what Odumegwu Ojukwu had to say: "In the three years of the war, necessity gave birth to invention. During those three years of heroic bound, we crept across the great chasm that separates knowledge from know-how. We built rockets, and we designed and built our own delivery systems. We guided our rockets, We guided them far, we guided them accurately for three years. Blockaded without hope of import, we maintained all our vehicles, the state extracted and refined petrol, individuals refined petrol in their back gardens. We built and maintained our airports, we maintained them under heavy bombardment. Despite the heavy bombardment, we recovered so quickly after each raid that we were able to maintain the record for the busiest airport in the continent of Africa. We spoke to the world through telecommunication system engineered by local ingenuity; the world heard us and spoke back to us! We built armoured car tanks, We modified aircraft from trainer to fighters, from passenger aircraft to bombers. In the three years of freedom we had broken the technological barrier. In three years we became the most civilised, the most technologically advanced black people on Earth.” Gen. Chukwuemeka Ojukwu. Was this achievement worth the blood shed? Re. Operamini news 1 Like

Music/Radio / Kenny Rogers Dead: Music Legend Gone To The Above by sirSixtus(m): 9:33am On Mar 21, 2020 |
The country music icon is most famous for his duet with Dolly Parton and his hit The Country music legend Kenny Rogers has passed away aged 81. The Grammy award winning icon is best known for his duet with Dolly Parton, Islands in the stream, and his big hit The Gambler. His impressive career spanned 60 years and seven decades as he gained millions of fans around the world for his songs and live performances. A statement from the family read: "The Rogers family is sad to announce that Kenny Rogers passed away last night. "Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family. In a career that spanned more than six decades, Kenny Rogers left an indelible mark on the history of American music. "His songs have endeared music lovers and touched the lives of millions around the world." "Chart-topping hits like "The Gambler," "Lady," "Islands In The Stream," "Lucille," "She Believes In Me," and "Through the Years" are just a handful of Kenny Rogers' songs that have inspired generations of artists and fans alike. The family is planning a small private service at this time out of concern for the national COVID-19 emergency. "They look forward to celebrating Kenny’s life publicly with his friends and fans at a later date."The news of his death was announced just after 6am today. Piers Morgan has already paid tribute, describing the American singer as "One of the all-time great country music stars and an utterly charming man". Kenny was born in Houston, Texas, US on August 21, 1938. He was born into a grew up in a housing estate into a poor family, but music was his calling from early on and he started his first band, The Scholars in 1956 while still in high school. Just a year later, in 1957, he had already released first solo single, That Crazy Feeling, performing on hit US show American Bandstand. In the late 70s, he started to solidify what became legendary status when his song Lucille won him a Grammy Award for best male country vocal performance in 1977. It was also named song of the year and single of the year by the Academy of Country Music and single of the year by the Country Music Association, as well as becoming a hit on the pop charts. The Gambler was another runaway success which led to a starring role in a made for TV movie of the same name, which was so success, it impressively garnered four sequels. Outside of music he acted in films and TV shows, and had his own restaurant chain, Kenny Rogers Roasters. The multiple Grammy winner, who played the legends slot at Glastonbury in 2013, had planned further performances but called off the shows in April 2018 due to unspecified "health challenges". He said in a statement at the time: "I've thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to say farewell to the fans over the course of the past two years. "I could never properly thank them for the encouragement and support they've given me throughout my career and the happiness I've experienced as a result of that." Born and raised in Houston, Rogers's trademark gravelly voice helped bring him 20 solo single number ones on the US country charts between 1977-87.Two of those songs - his duet of Islands In The Stream with Parton and his remake of Lionel Richie's Lady - also hit the top of the pop charts. Rogers was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013 and gained a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Country Music Association the same year. As tributes to Rogers began to flow in, singer Richard Marx tweeted: "I'm so sad to see Kenny Rogers go. He did so much for me as a young songwriter and we stayed friends for over 30 years. "I'll really miss him. May he rest easy." Follow @mirrorceleb MORE ON Kenny Rogers
