LowKeyManny: Thank you very much for the sound advice. The reason I want my GP to boost was because of employment opportunity in the future. I can make a good and fine impression if called for an interview in person but the grade on my certificate would reduce my chances of getting the job. I was smart in high school. I had good grades in Jamb. The course I was given by the school to study wasn't the one I wished or wanted. I had no option but to take the offer or else I would have to wait another year before I gained admission. It's not like I was impatient but time was of the essence. I wrote my 100 level exams like every other exams I've written in the past but was surprised by my failure in most of the courses. I thought I would do better and make up for it in 200 level but yet history repeated itself. I was quite unserious afterwards because we had a long 'holiday' ranging from covid to academic staffs strike. I didn't spend those 'free' months at home reading. I was 'hustling' (cyber crime). I needed money. I'm from an average family. There were times when things where hard and I was pressured to look for jobs students could do. (Pump attendant) I even carry concrete and blocks. Now, there's a high possibility that I would get a job after I graduate but my GP.. is giving me depression. My parents dont know how I am progressing academically. I was brilliant in secondary school so, they must have thought I was good in the University too. They're excited I will be getting a job after I graduate but I'm not and I cannot tell them about my failures. It'll ruin my relationship with them. Nothing will make my ma happy if she finds out. Even if I start all over again in a new school, the pain will still be there, because of the time I have wasted. They look forward to me helping them financially after schooling which of course is a norm but, see my life. If I could pay some money to boost my GP, I would have done that but I cant because my school is strict to the core. 2 Likes |

The above mentioned is the only thing giving me depression. I am in 300 level. I am screwed. If I start reading like mad now, is there any possibility that it can boost before I graduate? 1 Like |

Watch video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP3JVETp6QE How well do you know Mary Ann Bevan? Considering the fact that Mary Ann Bevan died in 1933, very few people alive today would be old enough to know her, but truthfully having researched her history, I wished that I had the opportunity to meet her. Given the moniker, the “world’s ugliest woman” it’s obvious that those who gave her that nickname were judging her alone by her appearance, certainly not by her strength of character. For her beauty may not have been visible to the naked eye but to those who gave her a chance and saw her from within, she was strikingly beautiful. Born in December 1884, Mary Ann was one of eight children born to an impoverished family in Plaistow, East London. She ultimately was trained to be a nurse and at the age of 29, she married Thomas Bevan and she went on to become the mother of four children. At the time of her marriage, few could argue her outer beauty matched her inner beauty. Eleven years into her marriage, her husband died leaving her to care for her four young children. Here’s the dilemma. Mary Ann developed a condition known as acromegaly, a condition where the body produced too much growth hormone. Anyone who was into professional wrestling during the ’70s and 80s or ever saw Fezzik in the movie Princess Bride would recognize the name “Andre the Giant”. He, too, had acromegaly. The condition can lead to enlargement of the hands and feet and it could result in the enlargement of facial features. In Mary Ann’s case, she became more masculine and her disproportionate features would have been deemed unattractive. Acromegaly is painful to those who are afflicted as the bones and the tissue grow at a rapid rate. Given her unsightly appearance, obtaining gainful employment was difficult and she was left with no means to support her children. Determined to do anything she could to support those children, she swallowed what little pride she had left and she took a job in a freak show under the title “world’s ugliest woman”. Mary didn’t like putting herself on exhibition. She was shy and she didn’t want to be separated from her children. Given her family was at stake, she accepted the job and placed her children at boarding schools. Mary Ann started her tour of the U.K. working for famous circus showman P. T. Barnum. She was so successful though that Barnum quickly put her on a ship for America. Almost immediately Mary Ann was on the cover of every publication in New York, being heralded as the “ugliest woman on Earth”. Mary Ann became the star of Barnum’s “freak show”, overshadowing incredibly tall people, midgets, conjoined twins, and bearded ladies. Not everyone was entertained by Mary Ann Bevan, though. In 1927, leading neurosurgeon Harvey Cushing wrote to Time magazine, complaining that Time Magazine and other publications should not be laughing at the physical diseases that were afflicting Mary Ann Bevan or anyone else. I certainly agree with Harvey Cushing’s assessment. It is sad that this nation ever had a P. T. Barnum freak show. It is even sadder that, because of her appearance, Mary Ann Bevan couldn’t find gainful employment that didn’t exploit her illness. However, as horrible as those shows were at least she was able to support her family. The years of touring, along with her affliction, took their toll on Mary Ann. She died in 1933 at the age of 49, a broken woman. She had lost her entire wealth to bad investments and her developing a drinking problem. Mary Ann Bevan was buried at the Ladywell and Brockley Cemetery in South London. For the people of Great Britain, personally, I would be proud to call her one of my own. I'm proud we share the same first name. Very few would have the fortitude and strength of character to endure what she did. Today, acromegaly is a condition that can be treated and controlled.
